wasnt sure if this was the right place to post

i have a very shy cat who is basically afraid
of other people and defineatly afraid of children
i adopted her and never saw her for 2 weeks
after bringing her home
and she took several years to let my family
go near her even seeing them daily

my dilema is this
i have to move in with
a family member with
a special needs teen
who is very very undisiplined
(the special needs is used to
allow her to do as she wants)
and there are other cats one
of whom fights with other cats
except for the one it lives with
which i understand
can be normal and properly dealt with

should i put her (my cat) thru this move?
i have committed to giving her a
forever home
my fear is that she will have to live
in my bedroom to prevent cat fights
and torture by the teen

what can i do when i move?
to make sure she has a life

Hi
IF, and it sounds as though this could be a very big if, you can ensure the door to your room will remain closed at all times, then go ahead and take her with you. However, my guess is that when you're gone, un-monitored access to your room will occur.

should i put her (my cat) thru this move?
I personally would suggest that if you can, try and re-home her.
This is titled for kittens but it applies for cats of all ages;

The resident cat is a probably solveable issue, with time. Throw the special needs teen in, and perhaps the whole thing becomes unsolveable. However, do you know how the teen acts with their cat? Just because he is undisciplined (its ok to say bratty, at least in my book) generally doesn't mean he isn't good with the cat. If he isn't good with his own cat, then I agree with Furballsmom Furballsmom , its probably better to rehome the cat. After all, you ain't going to change someone else's special needs teen -- thats just a lost cause. So I'd say that it really all depends on how the teen acts with cats, and if you don't know that, it might be worth giving it a go.

No, if you can’t keep her safe, please do not put her through the stress. If there is optio of you mov somewhere else with the cat Try please. You said it tuck her years to come around your family, can you somehow keep her??

im not going to rehome her
as i have committed to give her a forever home
but
i will be going to spend time at the relatives house
(not with my cat she will be cared for by the family we live with)
so it will give me a chance to observe the teen with her cats
plus i have requested a lock for my door on the inside
it may work to put one on the outside higher up on the door

if so whats harder to force open?
a key one or coded one with numbers\letters?
so far those are my ideas to keep people out

and the 2 other cats lived with another cat
there for awhile issues free so im not totally
concerned with that part

i have wanted to make this move earlier but didnt
due to my cats safety and issues
but i need better rent
and id rather move while shes still young
as i know its worse on older cats
if im going to i need to do it soon

another idea was to lock up the other pets for
an hour every few days to let her out to roam?

o and another reason is that im a 8 to 12 hour drive away and i feel
that that drive (to move) will be alot less stressful the younger age is

Just get a door knob with a key lock off amazon. 20 bucks and your good. Door knobs can be somewhat of a PITA to install if you are a danger to yourself with tools level handy, but I've managed it so I think you'll be fine.

Personally I think the idea of time to let him roam is a bad idea. It will encourage escapes, and encourage whining and dissatisfaction with being confined to the room. Millions, and I mean millions, of cats are very very happy in studios. But its all what they get used too. If you allow roaming for 2 hours a day, the cat will want to roam all the time.

likely 10 years later
putting her at 13 yrs old minimum
im with 1 family member now
