Just noticed what looks like dry spots on my cats paw? Does he need a vet visit?

Hey all,

I just recently noticed what looks to be some dry spots on my cats paw pads on his front pads. He doesn't seem to be bothered by them at all - he gives no response when I press on those areas. Not sure if a vet visit is needed.

Photos attached, but my phone camera is awful at taking close up pics!

That does look concerning. If possible, could you email the pics to your vet clinic and ask them if they need to see him? Definitely keep an eye on those areas and if they get larger, get him to the vet. It could be an allergy to new litter, if you've recently changed litter brands or something from your flooring if you apply carpet powder.

Oh wow I didn't even think about the possibility that it may be a reaction to his litter. I adopted him in April and started off with Arm&Hammer before settling on Dr.Elsey's in May and have stuck to that since then so I can't really say for certain if that's the cause. The more I think about it though the more it seems like a good suspect since he likes to dig at the litter a lot with his front paws, but not with his back paws.

But 100% I am contacting the hospital today to see if there's a way for me to send pictures in. Thank you so much!

Yeah, it could be an allergic reaction or some kind of injury, like overscartching. Try to get someone at the vets to look at those pictures and go from there. I would maybe change litters again and keep an eye on those areas to make sure they don't get bigger.

Absolutely! I already emailed his vet some pictures. Unfortunately she will be out of office until Tuesday, but in the meantime, I've went out and bought some corn litter which hopefully should be much more gentle on his paws.
