Those sloping ones are excellent.. my back aches a bit when I just do them on the table.DS bought me a 1000 piece kitten puzzle for Christmas. I’ve hijacked his school space to work at it slowly. Its been a nice, cozy spot to relax.

The drawing table angle is a tad steep so some pieces slide. I need to see if DH can drill another notch for it. It holds my puzzle board well though! I’ll cover it to move it still.
Adorable- yes she did!!!YAYJ and I did her new puzzle that she got yesterday this morning.

The back strain is one thing that has kept me from finding regular time to work on puzzles. Ive seen some very nice tables but they were both expensive and too big to store in my house. The drawing board thing i found in a craft store for half what a similar thing was on Amazon. I still need to store it too; but its much easier than a whole table.Brilliant!

I'm in the midst of a 1500 I started since I'm on teaching break. It's really difficult though.. not sure I'll get it done.![]()
You're right.. it's not necessarily the number of pieces. I've done 1000s that have take the same amount of time as a tricky 500. To be honest, I'm not wild about the hard ones.. too much sky/sea, whatever. The back strain is one thing that has kept me from finding regular time to work on puzzles. I think I’m trying to find a balance between something large enough to occupy my mind but not so complex it takes too long. Most of what I have are 500 pieces but some have so many similar colors its harder than I’m looking for with the time I’ve got. I guess theres no rules or bragging rights about how long it takes.![]()
I mean, I'm not going to pretend they don't watch way too much TV, but I feel like at least on the big screen, they at least play more at the same time than if they had tablets.Adorable- yes she did!!!YAY
J is doing puzzles already- isn't that impressive! I think it's wonderful you are not raising them on " devices" so they use those amazing little minds and hands
Not just the picture, but how it's cut. There was that 500 piece buffaloes one I did during lockdown that was way trickier than some of the 1000 piece ones I did, not only because of similar colors, but the shapes were really weird. You're right.. it's not necessarily the number of pieces. I'm impressed, even that she figured out how to take out the yellows to make the mermaid..... and btw,I never knew looking at the picture is cheating! How in the world can you do a puzzle without looking at the picture? My Dad used to do one color puzzles,I've joined him many times and it's really really hard. When my Mom would finish a Puzzle he liked to turn the pieces upside down to the blank side and fit them together again thst way..... yikesI mean, I'm not going to pretend they don't watch way too much TV, but I feel like at least on the big screen, they at least play more at the same time than if they had tablets.
I'm trying to teach J the proper way to build puzzles, as my dad taught me. Separate outside from inside, build the frame first, and looking at the picture on the box is cheating. I'm currently trying to get M to take her nap and J has decided to try and build her puzzle herself and she decided to just build the mermaid with the bright yellow shirt first because it was easy to find those pieces. So the separating isn't happening yet.

I don't know about cheating some people think it is easier then not looking at the picture. I don't look at the picture. It's all just personal preferences. I like difficult puzzles, puzzles that the edge pieces are sometimes completed by the point of an inside piece. Do what you like and enjoy. My mother in law did not like difficult puzzles at all. She had no interest in trying some that I did . So I tried always to buy her puzzles that had very defined images not something that was painterly. She preferred ones that were collages with each image being in a box.I'm impressed, even that she figured out how to take out the yellows to make the mermaid..... and btw,I never knew looking at the picture is cheating! How in the world can you do a puzzle without looking at the picture? My Dad used to do one color puzzles,I've joined him many times and it's really really hard. Idk, I always have because my dad never let me look at the picture, so it's habit now. With J I've been showing her how to match the pictures that are between two pieces, like the star in the green haired mermaid's hair, or looking for pieces of pink tail or whatever.I'm impressed, even that she figured out how to take out the yellows to make the mermaid..... and btw,I never knew looking at the picture is cheating! How in the world can you do a puzzle without looking at the picture? My Dad used to do one color puzzles,I've joined him many times and it's really really hard. I feel this is a good way to go about it. Uses your brain more. As you said your looking for relationships between, colors shapes a texture like tree bark. I can can still hear my dad saying to me turn it around when I did not think I had the right peice. He also thought it was better to not look at the picture. It is just not for everyone.Idk, I always have because my dad never let me look at the picture, so it's habit now. I virtually never give up on a puzzle, but I just did with my 1500 one.. there was a lot of sky, and, because of the size of the puzzle it was playing havoc with my back trying to stretch over the puzzle to get to it. I was half way through, too, but decided it just wasn't worth it.I have only done this once before but this fun puzzle I have been working on went unfinished and straight into the trash. It was, as most of mine are, a used puzzle and I have in the past been fortunate that at most a piece or two have been missing. I knew early on this puzzle was missing at least one piece because an edge piece was missing but as I got farther along, not only was it missing quite a few pieces but I also had some pieces that didn’t go with this puzzle. It just wasnt worth the time or effort to finish it.
