He weighs nearly 12lb and has a thick lighter undercoatCan you state how much he weighs? He certainly has the triangular head and strong jaw of a Norweigian, does he also have the thick dense undercoat beneath his fur? Without papers, what ever kind of breed he is, the point is moot. He would be considered a black domestic long hair or DLH. He could have some Norweigian forest cat in him, or Maine Coon, or some of the many other big breeds. Most people advertising kittens usually just label the kittens as a certain breed to describe what breed they most closely resemble. whatever breed he is, he is certainly beautiful, you are blessed to have him!
If he was already microchipped before he went to the shelter, you may be able to contact his previous owners and find out more about his background and history.
