Through illness we are reminded we are on this earth such a short time. My beloved Harry is very sick. I took him to the vet today after he threw up three times this week. He has been throwing up liquids. My heart just breaks right now. He’s lost 2 pounds in less than 14 days. I remember when my cat Fergie died from crf I would hate when they weighed her. I know I’m doing everything I could possibly do for him but somehow it seems not enough. I cry myself to sleep at night. I know I need to be fair to him so I will let him go when it’s time. I just don’t want him to leave me. The vet gave him a long lasting steroid said if this doesn’t work most likely cancer. Harry looks out the window like my beloved Fergie did before she died. I try not to cry because I know Harry and Gracie sense it but I can’t help it. This part of life really sucks.

I'm very sorry you are going through this stressful time. You might find some consolation in remembering these things are always harder on us humans. We are judging sickness, life, and death very differently than other animals as we have faaaar more knowledge about everything. Like look at this paragraph you wrote, right...

Short for us humans. Other animals don't have an understanding of "time" like this nor can make any comparison. Like we know some animals live longer than us, or we live longer than our pets, etc Cats can't make a comparison like this that they could feel whether life is short or long.

My beloved Harry is very sick.

Another thing YOU know but he doesn't. You are scared right now, going through all possibilities, and probably taking guesses on things you don't know like how he's feeling right now. None is shared by Harry, thankfully.

I know I need to be fair to him so I will let him go when it’s time
He doesn't know this either.

These things are so very difficult on us humans no matter what. Just I hope you remember it's not as difficult for Harry and feel even worse on his behalf too.

I wish you all the strength during this time. :vibes:

I don't know Harry's age or medical history but would you feel better getting a second opinion? Sometimes an objective opinion from another vet or feline specialist gives you peace of mind. But you know Harry and your vet best so this is merely a suggestion.

Sending special thoughts and lots of hugs your way. We are all here for support.

Harry is going to be 10. He’s had colds over the years but was up until this point the alpha male cat of the house. This is the 2nd vet he’s seen. This is the vet who saw him first when he was kitten. Thank you for the suggestion I’m at peace right now all I can do is my best and know that I love this beautiful soul so much. I told Harry it’s ok for him to while breaking my heart I know it’s the right thing. I thank god for sites like this where I can my thoughts and feelings on someone I love so much.
