I found a picture of Selene from the shelter, back when she was Slate.

I consider myself very lucky to get to be her human. At the same time, I will never understand how anyone could look at that face and go, "Nah." They missed out on a very special kitty.

Anyone have similar feelings?

OMG! Pretty much everyday, either myself or my husband will say something to the effect that we can't understand how any of the three kitties we adopted in December were looked over. One of ours was even returned by a previous family before we got to adopt him. I'm SO perplexed, yet grateful that they are our babies. All three of them are perfect in their own way and they all have wonderful personalities and all get along so well.
People always say "those cats hit the jackpot with you" but I believe it is the other way around.

Olive is my perfect kitty: she is a super cuddly lapcat, purrs deep and often, she’s also energetic, playful and rambunctious. Her excited nature makes her a delight. She has no major behavior issues and uses the litterbox like a champ.

This kitty was adopted from a shelter, kicked out of the house less than a year later due to “litterbox issues”, then abandoned when the jerks moved away. A friend of theirs took over caring for her and then later moved away - taking only her other cat and not Olive. That’s where we come in and we often marvel that his sweetest of cats was abandoned twice!

All my cats were strays before I took them in. If this is also the kind of face looking up at me out there in the streets then I'd scooped it up in a heartbeat.

How adorable! :)

Toffee and Fudge were the last ones left of their litter at the shelter because they seemed less sociable - but in reality they just hated the shelter environment and with some love and TLC, after being at home and socialising with us, they're happy and friendly lap cats.

I've said many times before on similar threads that I'm amazed at how such kitties as Selene are overlooked.
That picture of her, she looks so pleading and soulful, "Please, please pick me."

Willow definitely didn’t do a “pick me” look. She was hiding at the back of her cage hoping no one looked at her. Her papers said she had one failed adoption and I could see how timid she was. I knew I could give her the quiet pampered life she needed and within minutes decided to adopt her.

I am also amazed that we got to be the lucky "owners "of cats we have gotten from the shelter over the years.

When I look back to the many cats we have adopted over the years I often wonder why certain ones were overlooked or returned but don't dwell on it because they found their forever home with our family. Our present cat, Carleton, originally came from a terrible hoarding situation. After receiving veterinary treatment he was adopted out and the couple returned him a year later. How anyone could not fall in love with his docile demeanor and sweet personality is beyond me. :dunno:
I think this is why they came up with the expression, "Who Rescued Who?" :catlove:
