Is Vaseline Toxic to Cats

I thought I read that you could put vaseline on the outside of feeding bowls and dishes when feeding ferals to keep ants away. Is it really safe to use? I'm at wits end with these ants.

I don't think most members will recommend you using it in areas where a cat might ingest it. But, having said that, I used to give Tawny Vaseline for his hairballs. It was just a dab once a week, or bi-weekly, and it didn't seem to be an issue for him.

You would be better off finding a very low sided pan filled with water that you place the cat food dishes inside of. It is very effective in keeping the ants away from the food. Most ants won't even try to cross the water, and those that do drown.

I think, and I repeat, I think, that using vaseline would be safe, but only put it around the bottom of the bowl. Do not put it anywhere near the rim. Vaseline, in small amounts (see FeebysOwner FeebysOwner 's comment above) is not harmful to cats.
