Is there a name for this kitty feature?

This is so silly, but please indulge me.

I adopted Maisie five months ago as of tomorrow. She's about four and had a real rough life before being adopted. I've been marveling at the difference simple things like basic medical care and regular feedings of nutritionally complete food can do for a former stray; she looks a thousand times better than she did when I adopted her, and that was even after being pulled off the streets by a local animal lover a few months prior.

Anyway, as her coat becomes thicker, fuller, and slightly longer, I've noticed she's developed this cute little "ridge" behind her ears.

I know it's due to her coat's grow pattern, and neither of my other cats have/had it. Is it a kind of cowlick? Is there another name for it? It is so cute, and while she is still getting used to the sensation of being pet and scritched by a human, she forgets her reservations for a moment whenever I'm able to scratch them for her. :D

It's just the way their hair grows there! I've often admired that part. 🙂

It's so cute! My other cats have been medium-haired boys whose hair tended to go flat/back rather than push up there, so it's a new feature to me!

I, too, think it's called a ruff. In birds, it's usually considered part of the breast. I prefer 'ruff 'myself, LOL!

Thank you all! I just figured there was likely a fancy word for it, even if it's a standard feature. :)
