Is the litter box too small for her?

Hello everyone. Recently, my cat has been leaving a small piece of poop just outside the litter box after finishing her business due to exiting too early. This is a new behaviour and started happening in the last couple of months, but it occurs about once a week, not everytime.

Why do you think this might be happening? Do you think the litter box is too small for her? Should I consider the possibility of an underlying health issue? I would really appreciate it if those with experience could share their insights.

Thanks!!

I agree, a litterbox is never too big, the bigger the better. My cats do this once in a while, even with their big boxes. They are either constipated and when they jump out the last piece finally falls or they are a little too soft and it sticks to their fur and is knocked off by the jump. You can tell when you pick it up. If it is hard, give them some constipation/hairball medicine, or a teaspoon of butter, which has almost no lactose which most cats can't handle.

I see where you have it and why you probably went with thst size - but I agree with everyone that is definitely too small..... May I suggest a corner box for that location? It may leave you more room to get by instead of a square one- most are like 26" across and about 19" deep ( 66cm x 48 deep)..... my cats always gravitate to that shape as their favorite go to( since it's natural to circle where they go)

Judging from the photos, it’s too small and the sides are too high.

You might want to get rid of the plastic liner. Many cats don’t like the feel of the plastic liner bag when digging.

Thank you all for your detailed answers! I am relieved because at least I am now almost sure that its about the litter box. Just ordered XL stainless steel litter box for her. Hopefully she can now have a better potty time 😁💖

Is the poop hard? Too soft?

Is she scratching around a lot?
