Is Profender dewormer safe?

My vet just prescribed Profender for my kitten who has diarrhea. She’s running other tests but prescribed this as a precaution in case of tapeworm (fecal was negative but often is hard to detect).

Everything I read online about this medication is frightening! I’m thinking of holding off giving it to her until blood work comes back.

What have been your experiences with this dewormer? I hate challenging my vet, but if this product is dangerous I don’t think it’s worth it.

Thanks. I see such mixed reviews so I’m just going to wait and see and discuss with my vet because I don’t actually see evidence that they have tapeworms and why risk any side effects. I think my cats diarrhea is being caused by something else..so we will see.

This will give you an overview of Profender comments here on TCS. I have never used it because in the case of tapeworms I have always had my vet give an injection of Droncit. Certainly discuss this with your vet and ask for alternatives if you are not comfortable with it.
