Hello! I've been wondering if my cat is a British Bombay or just a black Domestic Shorthair. I've had comments saying that my cat has very distinctive features and looks different to other black cats they have seen, even a vet said it, too! He's very sleak and slender with an amazing jet black shiny coat, bright green eyes, walks with a strut and makes very vocal sounds compared to my Tabby cat. I have no idea what his parents were like either.

He's a gorgeous cat!

I would describe your cat as a black domestic shorthair. You don't need to say "just a black domestic shorthair," it's a perfectly good thing for a cat to be :)

Most cats are not any particular breed, and your cat may have simply inherited his own wonderful and unique mix of traits from the domestic cat gene pool. However, with your cat's close lying coat, large ears and relatively slender body style, it's possible that he might have some Siamese ancestry somewhere in his family tree; his green eyes may also be a hint, as selection for deep blue eyes in the Siamese breed may increase the polygenes that are responsible for green eyes in non-pointed cats.

I understand why you might wonder about the Bombay breed, since that breed is known for being black in color. "British Bombay" would refer to a solid black cat that is part of the GCCF's Asian breed group (Burmese and related breeds). I'm not seeing a close resemblance between your cat and the GCCF Asian breed group. Also, although green is an allowable eye color in the Asian breed group, it's not typical of this breed; gold eyes are preferred. Are you located in the UK? If you are not, the likelihood that you might find a cat with Asian breed group heritage is very small.

My Trixie could be a twin with this guy! Especially the top picture. I have one of her that looks exactly that that, but I couldn't access it.

20230612_223620.jpg I have pictures where they could be the exact same cat. I've wondered about her, too. Another thing that's unique about her (along with everything you've said) is that the hairs of her fur are black all the way down and she has no undercoat.

I love black cats, my Wizard was all black with a locket and he was sort of like an os type, but part siamese... some people thought bombay but he was thinner and had very short hair.

Me too. I've always had black cats ever since I could have a cat of my own. How old is the one in the above pic now? Trixie was 2 years old on April 6. She is black cat number 5. I also have Angel, who was 1 year old on February 1. Black cat #6. I got her to be Trixie's kitten when we lost the older guy last year. Trixie was not impressed by me getting her a kitten! Here's a kitten picture of Angel sitting on the safe place of my husband's leg. Trixie was mean to her for quite a while. It's been over a year at this point and she's much nicer to Angel now, and only occasionally mean.
