Hi everyone.
I got a new kitten today and i had him meet my cat through the crate right away.
(Basically just walked in the door with a new cat)
Anyways i took him out and they met face to face.
This is how its been going sofar:
- my older cat lays close by and watched him the whole time.
-follows the little one around.
- if I separate him he keeps scratching at door wanting to go back to the little one.
- he is not very scared but the big cat moves away and hisses at the little one sometimes, and when you try to do something with the little one.
- they fell asleep on the carpet laying not to far away from eachother.
- the little one wants to play but i think now is keeping his distance.

it all seemed fine and not that bad today one the first day.

im laying in the room with my big cat now and he seems fine being with me.
When i do hold him while the little one is around he does hiss and growl in my arms which started only at the end of the day.

what should i do?
will they be oky to just go on as is, and give it some time?
Or should I completely separate them moving forward?

also we have a small apartment( one bed, livingroom and kitchen and all in one space.
The bedroom is separate, but who do i give the big space to and who gets the bedroom.
my big cat loves to sleep in our bedroom during the day on his cat tower infront of window and at night wants to be in livingroom where there is more space to play.

i feel so bad for my older baby boy.
New kitten is 2 months old boy and older one is 8months old boy, both neutered

Normally I would say separate but it seems like things are going well

They are young enough that they should be fine. Most kittens will adjust to each other within days. Just keep an eye on them. Some hissing is normal, they're just discussing their places in the household.

It seems to have gone quite well. I wouldn't worry too much. A hiss or head swat isn't anything to worry about. They'll be best buds within a couple weeks.

A kitten and a cat under one year is one of the safest and easiest intros, with friendship almost guarrantied no matter what you do or dont. And its going perfectly fine. The "just put them together" method is actually reasonable with cats of these ages.

The only thing I'd do differently, is not hold the older one in the lap while they are still getting used to each other. Thats a good way to get scratched up.
