Mouser was a huge hit with her.
Mouser Brush Hunter Canned Cat Food

We tried the Brush Hunter (rabbit and mouse) and she practically inhaled her 1/3 portion. Teeth hitting the plate, alligator jaws, snarfing noises--she couldn't take it up fast enough.

Now the hardest part: waiting a full day before I can offer her more.

If she likes the fridge to feeder portion tomorrow, we may have a candidate for a meal replacement for the overnight--assuming this doesn't get too gamey sitting in the feeder for a few hours.

I have some Mouser on the way... two cans of every kind but rabbit (since I had pet rabbits as a kid) and I can't wait to see how our cats like (or don't like) it!

daftcat75 daftcat75 MOUSE. A cat's #1 natural prey. WE NEED THIS. But at an affordable price. And agree with you, lisahe lisahe -- I love rabbits, too. Actually I love mice as well, but they are as stated. Mouse cat food is a very important step up in the world of feeding our cats what they want, need, and digest well, I would think. Keep us informed, Betty, won't you? :hearthrob: :lovecat4::hearthrob:🐁

I like rabbits too. I lived with one when I met my first cat, Cabbie.

I like chickens too. Lots of personality. Met a number of them volunteering on a farmed animal sanctuary. There was a little palm-sized rooster named Killer who reminded us all why we wore work boots.

But a cat's gotta eat!

That's the agreement I entered into when I brought an obligate carnivore into my home.

Of the other proteins that Mouser comes in, I believe (and Betty seems to agree) that the rabbit recipe is probably going to be her favorite. I may try the other recipes with her at some point. But for simplicity, I'd like to stick with rabbit since that's what she's already eating with Rawz. I don't think she likes turkey. Duck? I don't know. Maybe we'll try that another time.

Still need to see it on the backend of its transit before I start making too many plans here.

Today is day five since her last mirtz dose. If I was worried about withdrawal or rebound anorexia, I’m not seeing it.

Betty: "AnorWHATia? Not me, Dad!"
I loved our chickens. Two roosters and about 34 hens we inherited with our Mojave property. Lots of wild jackrabbits and cottontails, quail, wood rats and kangaroo rats, and lots of other wonderful creatures.
I just couldn't feed rabbits, though. Mice, yeah, and chicken, yeah.
Have you thought about quail?

Last night was a warm one. 🥵

That might explain why she didn’t finish overnight portion until sometime between 4 and 5am. Her breakfast comes at 5:30.🤦🏼‍♂️

Remarkably, she showed up for her meds and ate 1/3 of breakfast. Remainder goes to her usual feeding spot and I go back to bed after giving her some brief after-breakfast fuss. It’s a large remainder. But she has plenty of time. Middle of third sleep, she reduced that remainder by half. 😽👍

I predict about 10am, she’ll come slinking into the office licking her lips and virtually announcing that her remainder is gone.

Still on mouse poop watch. 🐈🔭🧐

I hope it comes before lunch hour. I would like to visit the local pet food store to verify that they indeed do carry Mouser. Otherwise I’ll have to get another mail order in today. I only bought two cans. Hopefully she’ll enjoy it out of the feeder this afternoon so I don’t have to crack the second can so soon.

Good update! Waiting to see about the food.

She's caught up on breakfast. She's a little slower on lunch today. I'm sure she'll finish. Plenty of time. She has a small remainder left on lunch and her Mouser portion just opened on the feeder. She's busy napping. She'll get to them when she's hungry. Plenty of time left.

But she just seems slower in general today. It almost makes me wonder if she's having a mirtazapine withdrawal perhaps a day or two later than I was expecting. She's not exhibiting anything that I need to do something about yet. And I'm certainly not going to mirtz her just because she looks a little mopey or she's not speed eating. But I'll keep an eye on it, for sure.

I just wish she was a little more expressive sometimes so I could know the difference between, "it's hot", "I'm tired", "I'm hungry", "I'm bored," "you're working too much", etc.

EDIT: The Food Cam shows me a head buried in the feeder. 🐰🐭:yess:

Good EDIT!!!!!

Perhaps Betty is less expressive, and slower due to the prednisolone.
Who knows? It’s been many months since this cat hasn’t been medicated. Hopefully she’s off the mirtazapine. I rather like how she’s doing on pred. Except for the fact that I still don’t know if I’m feeding her enough. I’m trying not to needlessly pump her meals up. Especially because we’ll be tapering her pred at some point. But if pred is speeding up her system, maybe she needs those extra calories. I keep putting off the call to the specialist because I’m a little scared of tapering her off now that she’s eating well. That and we didn’t do a diet change like the specialist wanted. I simply wanted her off the mirtz first. Because she doesn’t present food issues in the classical IBD sense aka butt or gut feedback, how would I know whether food A or food B is better for her? Do I have to wait for the next hairball? That could be several weeks. Or maybe it’s not coming since she’s on pred now. So yeah. I have questions and doubts. I think I’ll be calling tomorrow. Mostly I’ve been delaying because I really wanted to see her really and truly done with mirtz before we take any pred away.

She loves her dinner! That seems to be the one meal I can count on her to finish in one go now.

Though she does have the burps right now and that’s making me kinda nervous….

Hoping they're just as a result of being well fed and satisfied!

I always wondered whether Krista or Betty understood the mirror. Tonight I got my answer. I tried to sneak up on her in a box-sitting, navel-gazing moment.

And I made a sound on my approach. And instead of craning her neck and looking behind her, she simply shifted her gaze up the mirror. Smart girl!

You know, I take that back…in the other photo, she really does look enchanted.
In the second photo, she’s looking up at me behind her. She’s using the mirror! She understands that sound she heard behind her can be seen in that mirror in front of her. Which of course leads me to believe that she does understand that when she sits in front of the mirror, she’s looking at herself. 😽😻
