GOOD Betty report! And hopefully if she does have to be on pred, it can be a small dose.
artiemom artiemom IDK if this would help but I have these two-story lazy susan things in my pantry cupboard and dish cupboard. They're so practical and allow me to store twice the stuff in the same space. My mom bought them so I don't know where, but if you search it you may be able to find some on eBay, amazon, or ???

We have one of those, too, I think it came from the now-defunct Linens 'N Things. It's very helpful, though sometimes I spin it too fast and things fall off!

There used to be a Big Lots down the street. I bought these small baskets that have a handle on the front. They are perfect for the over the sink cabinet where it would be too high up for a double decker lazy Susan. Though with all her recent prescriptions, I’m afraid those baskets are spilling over. Since all her pills are getting quartered, I use a S-M-T-W-T-F-S (days of the week) pill container and put stickers over each compartment telling me which one contains quarters of Cerenia or Ondansetron or Mirtazapine or Pepcid or…There’s a compartment for the empty gelatin capsules too and some for some already repacked tic tacs. Though because she now takes Cerenia and mirtazapine, I don’t prepack them anymore since the contents are irregular.

She left a half ounce remainder on her plate last night. Though I did pack it a bit fatter because she was pawing at second dinner plate and leaving a messy remainder. In other words, I padded her overnight portion with the anticipation of her leaving a remainder. Just not that large. Final score for the day was 158 calories. Add in the hairball treats and one or two freeze dried rabbit treat chasers for her liquid medicine for approximately 160. We’ll see on tomorrow’s weigh-in if that’s going to be enough. It’s an improvement over the 140 I had to beg and cajole into her for much of the last week. Perhaps as we get closer to finishing the ‘flox, her appetite will have returned. After all, she’s eating some of her medicine meals when I plate them instead of taking her meds and snubbing the plate. So she’s on a positive trajectory. I’m just worried and impatient.

Breakfast is mostly in the books. There’s probably six grams remaining and one half a hairball fish. She’s not eating all four halves. I can usually get her to eat two (1 treat.). Sometimes three. But she doesn’t always eat all four. I don’t know if that’s a tooth thing or a taste thing or what. 🤷🏼‍♂️ When she pulls up, she’s often chewing like she’s got a bit stuck in her teeth. When she’s finally done, she says, “well that sucked. I don’t want that last piece anyway.” 🤦🏼‍♂️

Understanding that antibiotics can probably make her feel a little off and whatever they are treating may also still be touching her, I’m okay if she hits 160 for a few more days. But when we finish the ‘flox, I want her returning to 175. 🐷

Yes, those lazy Susans are really great. I have one for my spices! The problem is: I do not have many cabinets.; and the others are small in depth for one.
I need to rethink things, and get more organized or re-organized.

Right now, I have a 2 very small trays on top of the large toaster/convection oven. One is holding a pill shooter, water syringe, and a small cup--the size of the snacking olive container. That one is for the Chemo. I have another one for the Pred, Probiotic, and now the Cerenia. It also has the syringe, different pill gun, and cup for the regular medications. That works ok.. but I need to find some place to conveniently store: extra gel caps, the other box of Cerenia, dishes, and other things. I just have to re-organize and go through what I have collected. These things are in a 1/2 shelf of my other cabinet.
Above that, on another 1/2 cabinet, I have his wet food-- a case of it.

Thanks for the suggestions...

Fingers crossed for Betty!

I got AnimalBiome's version of s. boulardii yesterday. I gave her the first pill this morning. It's big. It's a size 3. That was probably uncomfortable for her. Her poop pills are size 4 and her repacked tic tac is a size 5. So I am spending the morning repacking the size 3 s boulardii into size 4 capsules. I also found a couple capsule filling machines for size 4 capsules. I remember I couldn't find these last time I looked for size 5. I guess size 5 is a good size for packing illicit substances. The last time I saw a listing for a size 5 machine, it said something along the lines of, "if you are in the US, the DEA forbids the sale of the size 5 machines to you." But now that she's become a pro at taking size 4's thanks to the poop pills, I was able to find size 4 machines. I think that's probably a better size for these powder supplements anyway.

My homemade filling machine until one of the ones I ordered arrives. It’s that spatula that’s making this so much easier.

Breakfast is in the books. Her fourth half of the hairball treats has also been eaten.

She showed up on the counter while I was fixing lunch. That makes the next step so much easier. I fixed her lunch and got her rabbit treat ready. Then I pulled a (well-shaken) mL of 'flox and dosed her. It's so much easier when she's at my level than me at hers. I haven't tasted this one yet. But it must not taste too terrible. She doesn't give me much of a reaction other than running away like, "what did you do that for?" I had to run after her for her post-med rabbit treat. We busted into a new shipment of the I/D. So she had a new box to hide in after taking her medicine and her rabbit treat.

Four doses down. Three to go.

Two (distracted) hours later and I have repacked a two week supply of the s boulardii pills. One of my filling machines should arrive before I have to make another batch.

I also submitted the claims for Betty’s visits this week. (Her “second endo.”—at least in cost. 🤦🏼‍♂️) Let’s see how sympathetic Embrace is going to be. Her specialist cannot pin it on her IBD. So let’s see the insurance try to reject it for same. 😡

Looks like she’s already made great progress on lunch. 🐷👍

Weasels will try to weasel, but let's hope they aren't successful.

Good progress!

I use these 'see through storage drawers on wheels'...for my cat and dog supplies, meds, syringes, etc.

Except that I take off the wheels...since they are not too sturdy, and tip over, or the wheels fall off.
Also, cannot open more than one drawer, at a time,...due to 'tipping over'.
(if you can find them on sale,...even better.)

My roomie has a taller one of these with more drawers. Since we combined our households, sorta, she keeps lingerie in it, in their bathroom, and it works out really well in the space available. Hers has 5 drawers and is about 4' tall. It would be good for keeping lots of Betty supplies in, no doubt. Or Geoffrey supplies.

I have no shortage of cabinet space. I have an excess of junk I don’t need. I simply need to spend some time evaluating what I still have in the cabinets and whether empty containers I haven’t used in a year need to take up cupboard space or can be stored above the cabinets or recycled.

Breakfast and lunch are in the books. Clean plates. The most daytime calories she’s had in a week. She ate 1/2 to 2/3 of dinner right on the spot. I have no worries about a remainder. 🐷👍 It’s nice not having to put more than a tic tac mound of food on the carpet and then letting her eat off the plate like a civilized spoiled house cat. But it’s even nicer not having to chase after her after dinner to give her the wet willy.

She’s still running her mirtz mouth off at me tonight while we watch the baseball game. 😺🐥🦜🦆🎙🎶

Fireworks have started here early. And Betty is 💯% chill. I’m more than a little envious. Fireworks press that loud noises button in my head like motorcycles, lawn mowers, and leaf blowers. 🙉 And they tend to be the second worst urban game: was that fireworks 🧨 or gunfire 🔫?

(The worst urban game I only ever “play” in San Francisco: is that dog 💩 or human 💩? 🤢)

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have one of those plastic storage chest, which I use in place of a file cabinet. Problem is, I do not have any space for another one. I have a small rubbermaid storage box for Geoffrey's toys, extra litter scoop, extra Feliway and such. I had the gel caps in there. Since I am using them so much, I find it easier to have it in a readily accessible area. I have a clothes hamper on top of it. Space is really short in here. I only have 680 sq feet.

I really need to purge things..

I am not hijacking Betty's thread.

Same here! I think leaf blowers are the worst for me because of the pitch. But fireworks are the loudest so I'm already dreading tonight and tomorrow night, though at least our town limits them to 10 p.m. We may need to shut all our human and feline selves in with the air conditioner, air filter, and fan for a few hours!

You are so lucky that Betty is okay with fireworks noise. And good for her to be eating so well. I hope today is a repeat.

Yeah, daftcat75 daftcat75 I read about that urban problem in SF. Terrible. My friends in Vancouver B.C. have that problem as well. We're really backsliding into the primordial ooze. So many homeless and no solution in sight. I'd expect it in some other societies where it's a longstanding problem, but not here. My supermarket has locked up its personal care items and when I asked about it, that was the reason given--even here, in this wealthy city. :sigh:
It's so good that Betty is resilient on the noise thing. You would not want to live here, where whomever is now next door to us to the south has some kind of vehicle that must not have a muffler on it. It's the loudest I've ever heard, and their driveway is on the side facing our bedrooms. My roomie said that last time he gunned his engine it scared her badly, and she didn't know what it was. Hoping it doesn't become a frequent problem because if it is the owner, he's an aggressive type, not easily dealt with at all.
Your post about going through stuff and jettisoning stuff hit a nerve. There's plenty of space here, but we are having this problem with these little brown beetles. They love dry goods. I'm pretty sure I/we brought them in with groceries. Now they are a plague and I've just discovered them in a plastic container I use to store pasta--to keep it from being infested! I'll have to throw all of that out, and go through the pantry and a couple of other cupboards and get rid of a bunch of dry goods. NOT looking forward to that project.
artiemom artiemom That's a palace compared to this one place I lived in for a year with my then 3 cats--332 sq. ft.! The way it worked was to go up, not out. Fortunately, it all fit, except for my sofa, which was relegated to the owner's porch before being junked. :sniffle:

Last night I was plating food with a heavy hand expecting her to leave messy remainders. Each time I picked up clean plates. Final score for the day: 180 calories (Target is 175.) 🐷👍

She also ate all her hairball treats today. 👍

There’s still a few grams of breakfast left on her plate. But she still has a few hours before breakfast shift ends. And even if she doesn’t get to those, we have insurance calories in the few kibbles she’ll get at weigh-in. Though I would like her to eat before I ‘flox her at lunchtime. Since it’s not guaranteed that she will eat when I set down the lunch plate, I’ll watch for when she finishes the breakfast remainders. Then I’ll ruin her noms bliss 😋 with medicine. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Followed by rabbit treats. 😋👍

Well, Betty, they say there's no such thing as a free lunch :disappointed: But that's a very good score for yesterday! and hoping the weigh-in is cause for joy.

Not certain she’ll get to her breakfast remainder and getting close to the shift change, I decided I would get her weigh-in ready. Use the promise of kibble to lure her into the kitchen. Then flox her, 😾 followed by her kibble-rewarded weigh-in. 😋 Five doses down, two to go.

Extremely shocked and pleasantly surprised by this week’s weigh-in. While technically still within the rounding error of this scale, that’s actually a 0.04 GAIN over last week! I take two readings. A positive reading and a negative reading. The positive reading is when the scale is tared before she steps on it. For the negative reading, I reboot (turn off/on) the scale while she’s still in the cradle and read out the negative number after she walks off. The negative reading was -9.220; perhaps she had some tail weight on the floor after finishing her kibble.)

Can three good days really make up for a week of under-eating? I guess she really does have a good supply of those energy producing bacteria in her gut (Megamonas genus) that kick into high gear during times of starvation and under-eating to prevent the cat from losing too much weight.

She’s Flox’ed. She’s weighed. She had her kibble treats. I’m not worried about her breakfast remainder. Even if it’s greater than the kibble I gave her, tonight is a mirtz night. She’ll make up the difference on her night eating. So now she’s just sitting in my lap while I pound this out on the phone waiting for lunch shift. Soon, Betty, soon!
