Recovering vegan. While it's been likely almost a decade since I was vegan, it's been over two since the last time I ate turkey. And I was never a fan of tofurkey. I eat eggs, dairy, and fish now. As I tell my folks to help them sort out what I can eat, "If it swims, I'll eat it. If it's land or air meat, no thank you." For several Thanksgivings, when I could still leave my cat alone for a few days or under the care of a sitter, I would have Mom pick up a salmon filet and marinate it in pickle juice overnight. I'd pan fry that up for my Thanksgiving dinner. Now that we're down to same day commuting, we'll just have a brunch. And I'm totally fine with that. Maybe next year, Betty and I will road trip it for the weekend. We still need to do a practice staycation and maybe a practice vacation with an hour's drive. As a single, childless, Jewish cat dad, I used to check myself into a hotel for Christmas Eve to stave off the blues. I haven't done that since Covid. Maybe we'll look into that this year for our staycation. Krista certainly enjoyed hers that one year we did that.

Ms. Betty looks great! as ever. :hearthrob: :kneading::hearthrob:
Awwwwwwwwww, Krista :hearthrob:She really enjoyed her travels with you, didn't she? I must admit, it looks like a comfy, cozy room and whatever's for dinner there looks really nice
Does Betty like turkey at all? or has she had it, in either "people food" or "cat food" varieties? Fluff isn't much for it and, like you, he opts for seafood. Salmon, tuna, tilapia, skipjack, whatever the CATch of the day might be, he's up for it. I do occasionally make tuna salad for sandwiches -- it's my guilty pleasure. All through my vegetarian days, tuna was the one thing I really missed. I tried Tofurky once and didn't ever get it again -- "rubbery" would be the adjective I'd use to describe it. And to try to assuage my tuna cravings, I bought a lot of tins of Tuno. It was awful. I ended up giving them all away. The recipient wasn't thrilled, either. Just looked it up and was surprised to see it's still being sold.
*Wondering what Vance would have to say to your description of yourself. Nope. I don't want to know.* :disturbed:

Vance: "Radical leftist, demented, no skin in the game, deserves to pay higher taxes than 'real parents.'"
Trump: "Jewish and male and voting for Kamala? You're in line for a head examination."

I hope his "concepts of a [health] plan" include a good mental health benefit. Because a lot of folks need a head examination per his estimates.

If I knew how much Krista would enjoy hotel rooms, maybe we would have traveled more. We did stay at a Extended Stay a number of years before when our old apartment complex was being treated for some creepy crawlies. Termites I think. It wasn't our unit. But if they found them in one unit, they had to treat the whole complex. So we got some kind of rent credit and a staycation down the street. I think I was so neuro-spicy nervous about the whole thing that I wasn't thinking about doing that again with Krista. We wouldn't do that again until we had to when I evacuated us both to the same hotel as the one in the pictures above (a Town Place Suites down the street from the taproom) so that I could treat the current apartment for creepy crawlies--fleas this time. We would travel together only a few more times--two dentist trips and that Christmas Eve stay. I was hoping for many more trips with her. But her lymphoma would rear its ugly head not much longer after this stay. 😿 That was our last Christmas Eve together. And our first together in many years since I was usually leaving her at home for a hotel that night.

I don't know if Betty will take to traveling like Krista did. Krista seemed to be more chill than Betty in the car. But Betty also doesn't have much practice except vet visits. I'd like to staycation with her this Christmas. But my mental calendar sees a huge cliff's edge on November 5 and I can't see anything past that date yet.

But I know you are also so glad Krista had those exciting, adventurous, top-of-fridge good times with you when she was feeling probably pretty well, right?
Yeah, insects. They rule. And they can rain on all our parades. *What did you treat for the fleas with?*
As with most if not all hateful, intolerant, judgy types, they need mirrors. And they need whatever playback devices/apps they choose to play back their own words on them. Sorry to be blunt, but I call such people crazier than, uh, brickhouse rats. :disturbed: :fear::gaah::rolleyes3::jawdrop::shocked: It's no coincidence at all, methinks, that Agent Orange will not allow his medical reviews to be released. And as is more and more glaringly apparent these days, the signs of dementia are manifesting. Publicly. Where does it say that mentally ill persons with multiple felony convictions are even ALLOWED to run for any office, including dogcatcher?:dunno:

Betty briefly came out of her cave for a cruise around and was about to go back in without touching lunch. But I convinced her to take a few morsels off the carpet. About 1/4 portion. Just enough to stave off the sour tummy spits. Hopefully she’ll come down for one more pass before I come back.

The irony is that he couldn’t get security clearance to do this job if it were any other job. 🤦🏼‍♂️Why does the most powerful office in the world have the weakest entrance requirements? 🤬

I've never tried carpet morsels, I guess because they'd be really messy as they'd be either the "flaked in gravy" variety or the "pate" variety. Plus, even though I vacuum weekly or more, who's to say how clean that carpet really is for eating off?:cringe:
Yeah. I know. Dog Catcher probably has more stringent requirements. :disappointed:

Between Krista and Betty, I’ve had one cat or another poop or barf on most of my carpet. You don’t want to see my carpet under UV. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Honestly we should staycation just so I can do another round of deep cleaning with the Bissell instead of spot cleaning the latest blast zones of the week. (Thankfully now multiple weeks between blasts.)

Her food is a pate. It’s a mushy pate with the enzymes slowly digesting it. But the spot I put the morsels down and she eats them up off of is much smaller than her usual sour spit blast radius. I figure if she doesn’t mind eating off the carpet, I’d rather come back to that spot later with a sponge than the Bissell.

Oh yeah on all. IDK how old my carpet is, but it would probably qualify to be in a Carpet MEWSeum and has seen LOTS of feline action of all kinds. So you don't want to see my carpet under UV, either. And when I moved here, I had all the carpets cleaned, but there were/are still a LOT of stains that nothing will move. No idea what caused some of them. Anyway, it's ugly but comfortable and quieter than wood floors, and it doesn't matter what hits it. The SpotBot and/or Nature's Miracle takes care of the really scary stuff. The rest? We live with it.

These spots by the door are particularly interesting. :insertevillaugh:Definitely not feline in origin. NO idea what made them, though.

The carpet morsel gamble paid off. It primed her tummy and sometime later she finished the plate. 🐷👍

It really works well for her, doesn't it? *Cats. WEIRD.*😸
I don't question it. I'm glad it does work. Obviously, I don't want to do it all the time. Cats being cats who like their routines, I don't want to make it so she won't eat except through carpet feedings. But after yesterday's sour tummy spit and with her on pace for another this afternoon, I took a gamble that it wasn't going to come back up, and that she would return to the plate instead of calling it good on those nibbles. Her weigh-in this morning tells me that I don't need to be worried too much from an intake/remainders point of view. But if I can hold off a sour spit, you betcha I will.

I can't tell where your void ends and his shadow begins. Maybe his right arm is just that much fluffier! 💪:bicolorcat: BUFF FLUFF!

Ugh! My smart door went stupid! I have my ways to get in. But obviously, I don't want to do that on the regular. I opened a service case and hopefully it can be fixed faster than the broken entry gate that's going on a week now waiting on parts. 🤦‍♂️

I came in through a different way and I'm not sure if Betty was on guard cat duty or if she was getting ready to bolt to the other room. "Betty, you know me. I just came in a different door." "Oh alright. In that case..." and she turned around and went back into her cave. I had gone for a run over my lunch break. While I was out, she ate 3/4 of lunch and dropped a stinky.🐷💪💩 Thanks to the enzymes, she's now on a fairly regular twice a day schedule. One bomb in the morning and another in the afternoon. Hairy bits included. 🧶👍

Hmmmmmmm. Hope that gets fixed soon. And that, too.
A regular schedule is a good schedule, as far as we're concerned, yes?:agree:Fluff was on a once-a-night schedule for both. I've never met another cat who does that. It must be something to do with his having been a colony cat and then a foster in a multi-cat (plus dog, plus child, plus foster mom) household. *Maybe there was a line for the box.* Anyway, he's using it more often now. But that probably has a lot to do with the fact of my pushing, and his eating, a lot more food now.

Still haven't heard from maintenance yet. Murphy's Law says the minute I have to poop, maintenance will come knocking on the door. At least they won't be able to let themselves in. But still. I want my door fixed so I can poop in peace. As I'm sure you understand, sometimes neuro-spicy gut doesn't always go as smoothly as it should. Sometimes I'll be on the can and Betty will walk into her enclosure, do her business, and walk right back out before I'm finished shipping the current release. "Show off!" 🤦‍♂️ 😹

Betty is a weird cat in that she is the only one I have cohabitated with that didn't follow me into the bathroom.

Betty: "You're on your own with predators (or maintenance) who may come up on you while pooping."

Thanks, girl! 🤦‍♂️:winkcat:

Obviously one of those self-centered, cold, standoffish cats that *some I won't mention by name or office* might mention, lying their foul-mouthed a$$e$ off :bat:
Yeah, with me, it's invariably when I have to go somewhere with someone who's stopping by. Or yeah, when there's a contractor/repair person coming over on appointment. Fortunately, my doorbell no longer works, and knocking isn't quite as stressful to me. But I love when I get a delivery that requires signing and the guy is expecting me to what, fly from the office to the front door? This house is long and narrow. Why does everyone expect you to be there yesterday? :sigh:
Fluff has discovered the Cat Must Be In The Bathroom thing. So yeah, he comes barrelling in there and wants to jump on my lap. I'm just nervous (what else?) that he might jump IN the toilet sometime. *Who likes a wet cat? Especially a longhaired wet cat? I think we know the answer to that.*:angrycat::runningcat:

Betty has so far skipped breakfast this morning. I couldn’t even tempt her with carpet morsels. Not wanting her to have a sour tummy spit, I opened a can of Rawz rabbit and got her to eat a few morsels of that. About 1/6 of a meal. Since she hasn’t had this food in a while and because I don’t truly know if she’s not heading for an early release party, six grams will have to do. Probably against my better judgment, I also gave her a dental Greenie because I wanted her to have some hemp oil. She gets her hemp oil on top of a Greenie dental treat.

Door still hasn’t been fixed. Or even looked at. I’m facing the prospect of house arrest this weekend. 🤦🏼‍♂️ 🤬

UPDATE: Got her to eat a few more morsels of her regular food off the carpet after priming her tummy with the rabbit. She may or may not finish breakfast. She may or may not keep any of this down. But I'm feeling a lot better about her now than I did a couple hours ago. Because if she needs to go the vet, I can't lock my front door. I mean I can. But I can't unlock it until maintenance does their job!

Ooof! Maintenance showed up with batteries. I told him I already did that. So he said they don't have the replacement for the smart lock and he was going to go back to the "shop" (thinking he meant his supply shed) for an old school keyed lock. That was a half hour ago. I'm still waiting for him to return with my lock. Is he going to the store for one? Did I misinterpret what he meant when he said he had to go back to the shop for an old lock? This sounds like it's going to be a saga. But maybe, just maybe, I won't be under house arrest this weekend.

Looking unlikely that Betty will eat any more breakfast. Maybe she can get back on the meal train after maintenance has come and gone.

So the management corporation are responsible for the so-called "smart" locks and don't have inventory?:fuming:and they don't have alternatives?:bat::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:That does bring out my spicy. Hoping that by the time I let this go, someone will be installing some form of security on your door.
No doubt this does not make Ms. Betty happy, either. :angrycat: Really hoping she can keep her breakfast down in the face of this outrage.

So he showed up about ten minutes to noon. Now an hour later and he's still working on the replacement. I'm not sure why it's taking so long. Something about a missing piece. But he speaks broken English and I'm just trying to stay out of his hair and let him do his thing.

But I want to switch out Betty's plates. I want to get my own lunch. And I'm going to want to poop in peace sometime soon. Nothing urgent yet. But I did just finish my coffee. So it will hit bottom (pun intended) sooner or later.

Betty is curled tightly into the office cave with her paw over her face. I don't blame her. If I could fit, I'd join her in there.
