"Warm." I like that. That's the word the media uses to describe what my mom used to call "hotter than the hinges on the gates of Hell" all the while, keeping some people more stressed than they need to be with "HEAT WARNING"s and "EXTREME TEMPERATURES" and the like. Yeah, it IS that, and the nights aren't too comfy, either. Good on Ms. Betty for bravely going where a lot of cats have gone before, and toughing it out through the heat, while keeping up the side in the food department. The Fluff is doing his part, too, I'm happy to say, with encouragement.
*Your sense of humor!* Now would I ever consent to any cat being called, "Mr. Garbage Disposal"? :headshake:
Part of my bizarre aspiness *yes, that's a word. I just made it one, if it wasn't before.* is a liking for really sour tastes. Yoghurt is kind of like curdled milk isn't it? I like the plain, the sour-er, the better. *Too bad I'm SO lactose intolerant.*
I used to go to Palm Springs in the summer for dance weekends. When you leave the A/C'ed hotel and the outside heat feels like you opened the oven door, that's hot. When it gets above 100, that's hot. Mostly it doesn't matter when you're going from A/C to A/C. But when you have a place without A/C (or you are walking to downtown PS from the hotel because parking is a nightmare and it's still 90+ degrees after sunset), anything over 90 is going to be challenging mostly because those nights don't cool off enough and thus my place has been warmer than usual all week long.

As far as the cement mixer shot, it's not about the sour as much as the texture. I'm told it's like trying to shoot cottage cheese. 🤢🤮

I would call a cat MGD, if he rightfully earned the name. But most cats I know are far too picky for that name. Until we found I/D and A/D, Betty would be a Miss What Else You Got?🤦‍♂️😹

Late September, early October is the hops harvest season. At this time of the year, for only a few weeks, brewers make "wet hop" or "fresh hop" beers that use fresh hops--often within 24 hours of picking into the brew kettle. For the rest of the year, they use dried hops. It makes a big difference in the mouthfeel and flavor. I really enjoy fresh hop beers. It's been a bit of a slow season at the tap room this year for fresh hop taps. But when I saw one on the tap list today, I knew I was going to make this afternoon a taproom afternoon. I apparently dawdled for too long trying to get out of the place at lunch and Betty caught the vet vibes. She was under the bookcase when I was finally ready to leave. I gave her booty a scritch (because she always hangs it out when she's trying to hide) and told her no vet for you and then made myself scarce. I think she's going to run the clock out and maybe leave 1/2 the plate today. Honestly, she does well on the cooler weather meals that as long as she nibbles at lunch, that's good enough for me.

Oh yeah. I know all about the "oven door" sensation.
Yeah. Texture is VERY important. As is the rest.
The kid is being good today and doing a very nice job on today's special, Blue Buffalo Wilderness flaked chicken & turkey. He doesn't love it like our beloved Elvis did -- it was one of his favorites along with BB Wilderness kitten flaked chicken & trout -- but he's being good because "What Else You Got?" really doesn't work around here. For an ex-street clip-eared TNR colony cat who got almost 100% dry food in foster, he shouldn't be that "finicky" about high quality wet food. I haven't weighed him at all, but he definitely feels weightier under his floofs. People compliment his glossy ebony handsomeness, too. And he's got radar for his Greenies. We have a contest going to see who gets in to the breakfast room first, last thing at night. He usually barrels in and wins.
Hoping Ms. Betty surprised you and polished off her lunch.

Betty ate 3/4 lunch yesterday and that’s A-OK in this heat. She cleaned the other plates. I’m on a compressed schedule this morning and afternoon. The playoffs game for my team starts at 3:38 PM PDT. At least it’s not a 1 pm game. But it means I’m cutting my taproom time short and everything else gets compressed from there. I’m sucking down a beer right now so I can get back home to suck down more beer. And chips and salsa. And still do something about dinner after the game. And Betty’s meds and dinner in the middle of the game. Who decides these things? I have a cat kid to care for.

Betty made a first pass on lunch already today. That’s good enough for me knowing it will get near triples today once more. I don’t think we’ll see any relief until Monday or Tuesday.

We had a glorious time sleeping in and dreaming of the 5K we didn’t have to wake for this morning. I don’t know what my training schedule is like for the next couple of weeks. But I do want to run that same course one more time in two weeks.

Oh, I remember those glorious sleep ins with Zorro! You bring tears to my eyes! Cats so remind you to slow down and just be in the moment. Humans so live in the 9-5 world of Doing Things. Cats remind you —-to just stop and rest. Thanks for this entry.

Margot Lane Margot Lane "The 9-5 world..." Ah, if only. I can't remember back that far. :sigh:
daftcat75 daftcat75 Well, you could make chips and salsa "dinner" -- right? Corn, tomatoes, onions, chiles, cilantro, spices -- since when is that not nutritious?;) And yeah, as it's hot, there isn't the want or need to eat as much. I'm having brown rice and tofu/vegetable stir-fry, a green salad, a peach, and iced tea. If I make it that far. Had one of those hours-long "customer service" torture sessions with my satellite provider this morning. So I feel well and truly castigated for being a loyal customer trying to hold them to a deal that was clinched -- until today's bill arrived, at which point I had a meltdown because it wasn't. Up, up, up the stairs we go, precioussssss! and the evil spider almost ate me alive. BUT...she didn't. :fuming::bat:📺📡
Good on Betty! The kid was "iffy" about his BB Tastefuls beef at first, but he did tuck into it later, and is probably (not) working on a second portion as I type.

Krista liked to be fed at the butt crack of dawn's butt crack of dawn. If the early bird got the worm, she was determined to get that early bird. Betty is polite and doesn't really bother me overnight or in the morning. Which makes it ironic that I have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn's butt crack of dawn every morning to keep her on a meds schedule that we're not even really sure is necessary. Except that she always does better on days she gets meds than days I bounce them. So as long as the vet keeps assuring me they are long term safe and keeps refilling her prescriptions--and even the vet is impressed that Betty keeps taking the liquid gabapentin despite its notoriously bad taste and many other cats' reaction to it--wait where was I before this aside? For as nasty as that gabapentin liquid is, she doesn't try very hard to hide from it. She does a much better job of hiding for vet visits that don't happen (even if she hangs her Betty booty out from under the bookcase.) Even though I would rather not wake at quarter to five for her every morning, and even though she would rather not take a shot of the foul at that hour (or any hour), I think "third sleep" that directly follows this is both of our favorites. And yes, even working from home, I don't get to sleep in like I sometimes can on the weekends. I have an audible alarm for our butt crack of dawn meds and breakfast. But for the workday, I have a visual alarm--a slow fade up of the lights from 7:30 to 8:00am. An artificial sunrise. On the weekends, that automation doesn't run. Often times it's either how much I have to pee or how stinky Betty's post-breakfast poop has been that gets me out of bed on the weekends. 😹 🙊

Yeah. When my dad would use that cliche, I would always think, "Who wants worms?" but never say it because I didn't want him getting mad at my "smart mouth." :insertevillaugh:The bird, though. Definitely of interest to Ms. Betty! As for her hiding, she IS hiding. We must never, ever, accuse them of not hiding when in fact they are. icanhascheezburger(dot)com will disabuse us of that notion if we have it. They are masters of hiding. Every cat is a Houdini (or something. Not quite sure if that's best analogy but...). People's taste preferences run the gamut, so maybe Betty actually LIKES the gaba? Naw. Of course not.*Sleep? What's "sleep"?*:sigh:
That's just about PURRfect on the scale, right? She looks quite adorable with her glossy coat, big blep and tiny, tiny hands and feet:lolup:

Betty looks like she's going to run the clock out on lunch. I know she's still got another hour (and change.) But so far, lunch remains untouched. I am not worried as much about her eating or not eating as much as I just don't want her having acid pukes. I understand the heat has been difficult on her--especially because she never gets to go to the taproom with me. I don't need her to finish lunch. I'm less concerned about that these days, I just want her to eat enough to keep the acid spits at bay. And maybe maintain her weight too, though. It's been nice that it's been stable once again. But that only works if she eats at least a bit of lunch. Pretty sure next month, I'll be worried about weight gain. Mine and maybe hers too. 🤦‍♂️ 😹

Is Betty a social eater, I wonder? Because Elvis definitely was, and Fluff definitely is. A bowl of food, unless it's a favorite, would/will go untouched, but when I go in there, sit beside and talk, it's like magic. *I'm like that, too, so I understand.*

Betty is not a social eater. In fact, if I show up, she'll choose me over food every time. At least that's how she was when I first got her. Now she will gladly roll off me during third sleep to eat her breakfast before I wake for mine. And she'll grant me the moment to turn around and make myself scarce again if I happen to walk in on her eating. The one exception to her anti-social eating is that she will eat morsels off the carpet if I really need her to eat something. But I reserve that for exceptional times. That's not something I want to do or want her doing on the regular. As it turned out for today, I was a bit late coming home to her and it seemed like she was just finishing up lunch when I walked in. So 50/50 she finishes dinner? She probably will. I'm just so conditioned to worry about her now because I've seen her eating and weight go up and down quite a bit. I keep hoping she'll settle into a range where I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Wait...let me guess.
*Like father, like daughter*?
I can't even imagine being in a restaurant (or taproom?) by myself. It would not be comfortable for me. If I'm going to eat in public, I need someone else to eat with me and talk.
We're building a solid cat here. Fluff definitely feels weightier and I know he is. But I had to feed MGD this morning, a good third of a 5.5 oz. So yes, how well I know about that. Hoping Betty did a good job on her dinner. Food is one of life's greatest pleasures when there aren't a lot of other pleasures, and that's life today for so many, especially cats who are fortunate enough to have good lives indoors with someone(s) who care(s) about them. So eat, Betty and Fluff, eat!;)

Because of my neuro-spiciness, I can be friendly enough, but not still not have many friends. If I had to wait for companionship to go out to eat, well, I'd have a lot more in my savings account. But I'd also be miserable and lonely. Ironically, I like eating alone amongst others. I like sitting and eating at the bar. I mean I guess that's where you go if you don't want to be seen eating alone at a table. But also the service is usually great because there's almost always someone behind the bar even if you have to wait for them to finish making drinks. At least you can see what's delaying your service vs sitting at the table the server never visits. Plus a lot of the regulars sit at the bar. So even though I show up by myself, I'm usually eating and drinking among friends. And in the last few weeks, I have had my suspicions confirmed that the woman who comes in, prefers the cashier end seat at the bar*, drinks a glass (or two) of wine, and reads her book (a new one every week!) with all the distractions of the tap room going on around her---yep, she's neuro-spicy too. (* I generally prefer an aisle seat/exit route when available. But that end seat is "too people-y!" That's what she likes about it though. That's why it's a spectrum!)

My other suspicions last night about Betty's meal timing thrown off proved true. She was only up for half a dinner. But she finished her overnight portion. She finished breakfast before I woke for mine. That's one I almost never worry about these days. And I managed to catch her in a first pass mood when I was switching out her lunch. Often once she's had the first pass, the second pass comes a lot easier. And sure enough, she's done with lunch by 2 pm today.

Good on Betty! My Fluff is already well on his way to finishing his 5.5 oz of chicken. I may just have to break out a special 3 oz. for dinner :goldstar:
Well, so you each hold up an end of the bar? And the question is, is the book right side up or upside down? Yeah, I used to love being in crowds, before COVID and craziness. I don't do restaurants any more, and not bars, of course, so I don't really know how I'd feel about it now. I miss people (friends, family, relationships) and only have about 12 people I'd call "friends/family." It feels lonely. Being a 1-cat family feels VERY lonely. But I think I'm doing this the right way because cats are MUCH more sensitive to noise than (even this) human(s) and I know I feel really stressed.

If I feel like there's enough space, I don't mind sitting in a middle seat over not sitting at the bar at all. Usually, I'll opt for the one just next to the end seat because I like the window side of the bar better than the bathroom side. And also because if the neuro-spicy bookworm is sitting in that end seat, she gets it and will make a little extra room for me if the person on the other side is taking more than their share. When I got there yesterday, the people-y end was the only non-middle seat still available. By the time my spicy buddy showed up, the opposite end had opened up. When I got up to leave, I made a visit to the used beer return closet. When I returned, she had already re-taken "her seat". 😹 🧠🌶 She was probably silently glaring at me the whole time until I left. 😾
:whiskers:

As nuts as it sounds, I consider that taproom to be part of my Covid pod. Mostly because it's the same crowd of regulars plus a few weekly guest stars. But I haven't returned to the movies yet. Some of that is the cost of it. It was already $$$ before Covid. And every time I have to walk past the Trader Joe's on the way to the burger place if I park at a certain end of the shopping center, I pull my mask on as I cross past TJ's. That's a compressed people'y mess of too many cross-sections. If anywhere is going to give me Covid, I'm convinced it's TJ's.

 :sigh:
I spent a couple of CATurday hours that I would rather have spent with Fluff, battling with my satellite provider over the (disputed) FACT that I'd called them in August re: renewing my package. The rep I talked to renewed it, for the same price, for 2 more years, and threw in a 2-month freebie of (mostly pukey) movie channels. Okay, fine. On CATurday I got an email bill at a much higher price. NOT FINE. So I called and was told "that price doesn't exist" and the agreement/contract/deal agreed upon did "not go through." I then had to get bumped up the ladder twice to get a "Customer Loyalty Dept." rep that reiterated all I'd been told and offered me a deal by another name (oh, they're so good at this) at a similar price. I confirmed (?) that they'd adjust that high bill down, too. So the deal/contract/agreement "went through" and let's see what happens. There aren't many films I'd even get paid to watch now, so I'm not bothered about the movie palaces, which I haven't been to for yonks, anyway, due to the $$$ and yes, the germs and viruses, not to mention the vomitous smell of the movie fare. Any films I see, I see on my flatscreen. And yeah, I let that movie package lapse. It's not worth $10 a month to me. :disappointed:

Aren't they all flatscreen now? Tell me you're from an older generation without telling me you're from an older generation.

I think they send you to climate jail now if you try to buy a CRT.

Did you have to make that call on a CATurday? Couldn't it have waited for a NoFunday?

I had a FATurday where I drank and ate like a Super Bowl Sunday and then slept it off before the game was even done. Last night was more sensible and I managed to watch my team win one this time.

Supposedly we had our last 90+ day for this heat spell and maybe the rest of the year. Today is a more temperate 87. 🤦‍♂️

Betty is done with her lunch. 🐷👍

*Well, as opposed to the BIG screen.* *But I do have a CRT I bought from neighbors' yard sale when I first moved here.*
I'm not good with procrastinating. Because of, you know. I need it done YESTERDAY. Especially when finances, and even more, my only form of nightly entertainment, is involved. I did spend the rest of that day decompressing. Especially since I called ex #2 afterward. He's really pretty sick so I check up on him. He's very depressed and pretty hostile. *No, I'm NOT a masochist.*
It's 89F here now. Or 88. Or 87. Depending on which weather app you believe. Or not. High 80s, up to 90, forecast for the next few. But then! into the 70s! with mid-high 50s nights! It might even be comfy enough for me. :cloud9: The Fluff has been spooning for part of the night, and moving to the foot of the bed, on either side, on the rest. That's okay, kid. I'm the worst to sleep with! Up and down, up and down, thrashing and turning, all night long. :sigh:
He ate 8 1/2 oz. yesterday! Sounds like you were both on a gastronomical mystery tour. And Betty?

Mystery spit this morning. Shortly after meds and before third sleep, she yakked a large amount of water and her post-meds treat. No food. No hair. 🤷‍♂️ Didn't seem to affect her breakfast. It looks like she's going to run the clock out on lunch. If she yakked up her meds, that would track. She skimmed some off so she shouldn't be in a sour tummy situation. I'm okay if she skips the remainder if it helps a hairball squeeze on out of her tummy.

Otherwise, she's been doing well and we're finally getting some cooler days and cooler nights.
