Last night, she was in full nom goblin mode. From when I put down her overnight plate and left to "put in my night teeth" (what I call my swish, floss, brush routine) until morning when it was time for her breakfast and meds, I didn't see her at all. But I did see evidence of the food dish getting cleaned throughout the night. Of course, after meds, she was glued to me (cheek to cheek) until it was time to take the night teeth out and put in the morning ones (swish and brush, no flossing in the morning.) I got a brief break when I rolled her off of me to get third sleep. She ate her breakfast then backed her booty into me to steal a spoon. 😹 She's such a character! Such a love bug!

Tomorrow is the first of potentially three 5Ks in three weeks and 4 in five weeks. As many as I feel like paying and waking up for. 3 of those are the same trail creek course I've been running all summer. I get three chances to put in a season best. I'm still a couple minutes off my post-40 personal best (and about 50% slower than what I used to run in high school/college days.) One of those is a flat course so that could be a fast time. But the one I did downtown the other month wasn't all that swift. I need to get more run clothes (not an easy task when I hate most run shirts and have to find new shorts because the ones I used to buy aren't sold anymore) so that I can do some speed drills on off-days to improve my mile times. I'm just happy to have been running all summer and taking off the weight without injuries. I am looking forward to the race itself tomorrow morning. But the ADHD math to get myself there says I'm basically going to get an hour of third sleep before I have to get my eyes open and my butt moving. I'll probably find Betty under the bookcase thinking it's a vet visit by the time I'm heading out the door. 🤦‍♂️ At least we'll get to practice this a few weekends in a row...if I'm up for it.

"Putting in the night teeth" and "put in the morning ones" so you don't have to ever put in the real (fake) ones! Good on ya. Oral hygiene is top priority to me, too. *I was really happy to hear that my roomie FINALLY got her teeth cleaned. Who knows how long it's been. Anyway.*
Cooler nights should mean more spoons! My brash kid spent part of the night at the foot of the bed until I woke up and PURRsuaded him to spoon. He's very sweet and when he actually settles down, he's a great bed partner and laptop *although I'll never invite him onto my lap while I work because unlike Elvis and every other one of my beloved cats, he is unpredictable, hyper, and a jump risk.*
Not the swiftie you want to be? You'll get there. I know about clothes. When I find something I like, I tend to wait for a sale and then buy it in several colors. Or if it comes in multipacks like socks, I buy them that way. I've tended to overbuy in the past and I'm trying to break that not-always-helpful habit.

Oral hygiene was a huge source of don't wannas for most of my life. I don't like floss and I could never figure out how to get it through my teeth. It also got stuck way too often. And I didn't like flavored floss. Then I found floss sticks and that's made it so much easier. I don't like minty toothpaste or minty mouthwash. Then I found kids bubblegum mouthwash and a company called Boka that makes all kinds of non-mint or subtly minty flavors like Strawberry Mango, Orange Space Cream, Watermelon Mint (very subtle on the mint), and a coconut ginger flavor. They probably have almost a dozen flavors now and I rotate between three or four of them at any time. There was a seasonal flavor in Spring: cherry blossom. That was good! Now that I work from home and have flavors I like, I find I'm brushing my teeth in the midday too. Dental insurance is never enough and I got better things to do with the money prior dental work has taken from me. Now I'm trying a little harder to prevent future work so that I can put that savings to Betty's dental care. I should probably call up the dentist already. But I was kinda waiting to get a little better footing on my finances before I sign up to part with another $3000+.

Gray Garfield just woke. I must refill her love tank while her mews are still soft and sweet.

Yeah. You don't want the roars leading to the scimitars  :insertevillaugh: 3K? Yikes! Betty should get a lot of high-end treats for that. When I was a little kid, the dentist always let kids pick out candy after their cleaning. *Yeah, I know.:disappointed:*
I had a floss box that clipped onto a top part that was like a floss stick. I think it was REACH brand. And I don't think they make them any more. It was really great. I still have the top part, though, so I just feed a regular string of floss onto it and it works just great. I do like mint, but prefer spearmint, and even better, cinnamon. Fruit flavors don't thrill me, but TOMS of MAINE makes fruity toothpaste (for kids. Of any age, I guess.:hyper:) It's cloyingly sweet, like the stuff my hygienist uses to sandblast after the cleaning. It just makes sense to keep up with the oral hygiene, as health starts in/from the mouth and besides, it's just a LOT more pleasant when people have clean mouths, right? Right. A lesser-loved part of my being on the spectrum is olfactory hypersensitivity. I smelled a gas leak when my new water heater was installed and since I bought the best package, I was able to call the tech back to fix it. I could have done it myself, but I'm paying for tech support, so I let him do it. He couldn't even smell it when I pinpointed the location for him. *That's a GOOD aspect of the sense.*

Doh! We had “earthquake weather” (sudden hot day after a cool spell) and Betty erupted. 🌋🤮 I think it was a hairball. The first pile or piles as it were was just food. I didn’t pick through the bonus spit. But it did look slimier than the first when the Bissell came around to it. I think she had to bring up lunch before she could get the hairball out. Note for next time: search all the piles. The toy surprise can be in the top or the bottom of the box. 🤦🏼‍♂️😹

We made it nearly three weeks. Not bad. Not bad. I’d rather get to once a month. But this is progress. And in her defense, her winter coat is coming in. 🐑

Yeah. The kid had a big one early this morning. Thankfully it was already light, so I knew right where it was and it was easily cleaned. I'm getting Petromalt with my next auto delivery. He needs it. I'd love to see him floof up in high altitude cold temperatures (the Mojave) but here in la-la land, I think the best I can hope for is a little extra floof, hopefully on the cat and not the floor.
You're hoping for a catnip toy with that? :insertevillaugh:
We're going to get some more hot weather next week, too.

It's okay if we get more hot weather. It was just the both of us were getting used to the cooler weather. Today was a shock to both our systems. Poor girl. She's hunting for crumbs right now because I'm giving her gut rest until dinner. Then she'll get a reduced portion so she doesn't scarf and barf. And I'll let her have a little more than usual on overnight.

I think I heard a couple bored and lonely meows. I guess we can start dinner now.

Was dinner a success, I hope? *Gardeners mow and blow. Cats? They scarf and barf.* Fortunately, it doesn't look from the forecast like our seesawing back up into the heat will be terrible. At least, it's not forecast to be triple digits or even high 90s. 😌
The kid is seemingly getting to be okay with the fact that gushyfudz are served in the breakfast room (his dining room) at more or less regular times. I went on petco(dot)com and tweaked our autodelivery to jettison some kinds he doesn't care about and add that Petromalt and a couple of new kinds. What he really wants is his kronschiez. Well, I'm not okay with those being his main diet. So we're compromising for now. And I'm feeding the garbage disposal too much for my liking. But it's a work in progress. This kitten is headstrong. But he may have met his match. ;)

Dinner, overnight, breakfast were all successes. As I expected, she snarfed dinner in record time. It usually takes her two hours from meds to take a meaningful first pass. Then I often have to keep working or reading web stuff until she takes second pass. That's when I can start my own dinner with the assurance that any crumbs that survived first and second pass will be taken up on a cleanup pass right before I switch out the plates. Well, last night, she took first pass at 1 hour after meds (an hour early) and nearly cleared the (reduced portion) whole plate. My perfectly timed night would have ended too soon if I started my dinner then. We did get to my dinner and bed earlier last night. And 6:15 came awfully early. I mean 4:45 for her breakfast and meds always comes too early. But only getting an hour of third sleep before I had to prepare for my race was brutal. I brewed a cup of coffee to get my butt moving (in more ways than one.) When I was finally ready to head out the door, Betty was under the bookcase. I gave her her treat under the bookcase, patted her booty sticking out, and reassured her, "you're not going to the vet this morning." Race was good. Everyone and their dog came rushing out off the start and I was worried that I hadn't trained at a race pace all summer. But I got into a groove and picked off a few of them on the hills because I have been running this course all summer and knew where to adjust my posture and stride to get more out of the terrain. On one of the last downhills in the final stretch, I caught a good pace and caught up to one of the guys that passed me on the uphill prior. We ran neck and neck for the last stretch (the last tenth of a mile or so.) He ultimately got away from me but I got a season best time and my stretch goal of under 30 minutes (29:29.) The course I have been running all summer was just slightly different starting and ending points but that made a difference today--as did the cooler weather at race time. I'm going to give my body until Monday to see how it feels. If I feel like I will be ready for my usual Tuesday run, I'll sign up for next weekend's 5K on the same course. There is another 5K the weekend after that downtown. If one of these is going to wreck me, it may be this one. I have been running terrain more than flat all summer. And then two weeks after that one is yet another on this same creek trail course. If my legs and my wallet can handle it, I can race this course 3 times in 5 weeks. That's a lot of nervous mornings under the bookcase for Betty. 🤦‍♂️ 😿

Hoping Betty will adapt to this schedule and continue to snarf (without the barf):hearthrob::kneading::hearthrob:
Great about the run!
I guess the jackhammers and pounding weren't enough. Now I've got gasoline fumes, chainsaws, and the result? Neighbors on north side are cutting down their privacy hedge. They've dumped a bunch of the bushes on my side of the fence, jeopardizing my plants, so I had to go deal with that. Asked the foreman what the plan is, as I'll be faced across the width of 2 driveways with a glaring white house and numerous windows looking into mine. But he said they're going to put up one of those butt-ugly vinyl fences. Okay. I'd prefer the privacy hedge, but it doesn't belong to me, so I'm a captive audience.

Can you put up a fence or hedge on your side of the property line? Do you rent or own? Ever since I got on the Nextdoor app (nosy neighbor network as I call it), I’m glad I’m renting in a gated property. The kinds of mail theft, porch pirates, property crime, solicitor scams, home insurers dropping policies for petty reasons, and more that get reported on this network make me happy I rent and rent in a gated community. I know for families, it might make sense to own. But for me and Betty, this 667 sq foot apartment, basically a studio with a home office is all we need. I also really like the location. I couldn’t afford or wouldn’t want to own property near here.

They're going to put up one of those hideous vinyl fences, but city only allows up to 6' and since we're on raised foundations, it's not really privacy; plus, their VERY bright light that they insist on leaving on all night on the side of the house facing mine means I get light all night long in all of the bedrooms, kitchen and breakfast room. I own and I'm here for the duration -- it was our family home and I couldn't rent for anywhere near as affordable as it is to live here with close to 2,000 sq. ft. and front/back yards and patio plus double garage. I'll have to see how it goes and what their completed project is like before I decide what to do. A problem is that I have a gate on that side, with hardware that attaches to the common wall, which they're going to remove to put in the fence. IDK how that will pan out. I don't want to have to pay for another gate scenario, so I'lll need to talk to the neighbor about that. The contractors seem to have the day off today. I got hardly any sleep last night and my guts are in a terrible state. I rented for most of my adult life, but renting isn't good for me as I really don't want some landlord/corporation telling me how many cats I can have and having access to my living space. It's $$$ to rent here, and property values are $$$. So it isn't an option for me to move.
I tried Nextdoor after getting an invitation to sign up; this community has a lot of aggressive, arrogant, opinionated and otherwise undesirable denizens, so after getting a look at it, I left.

Oof! 9.1 lbs. I was so shocked by the setback that I only got one shot on the scale. I did get a before picture where she was waiting patiently off the scale for her treat to be placed.

I remain on Nextdoor to remind me what’s going on around me and why I’m happy to rent in a rent controlled apartment (VOTE NO ON 33. It’s a corporate slumlord trying to repeal renters protections including rent control 🤬) And in a gated property. Yes. I would like more privacy (the deck apparently belongs to future residents 🤦🏼‍♂️), and I’d like more freedom with the number of cats and also the ability to foster a cat. But I don’t trust myself with the upkeep of a home. I would find repairs, property taxes, home insurance, mortgage insurance, and all the other money pit expenses of ownership so enraging that even the hint of property crime or disrespect (like your neighbor fence situation) would set me off 😬🤬. Imagine paying twice what I am now and having 💩-y neighbors. If I had to defend myself and my home from the kind of property crime and general nuisance and blight going around these days, I’d probably be sitting in prison waiting for my trial for shooting a solicitor or a porch pirate through the door.

Oh, how well I know the feelings! Neighbors aren't bad, but they may not know how things have traditionally been done around here (they're Armenian but IDK where from. Not from here originally, is all I do know.) and/or since this city is AKA "Little Armenia" and they control everything (mayor is Armenian and over half the population is) they may just think past ways don't matter. And they may not. I know the noise laws we used to have aren't honored by the police here any more. The rest? Yeah, I have to deal with most of that stuff but still, it works out to be cost-effective and especially for all the advantages I get. It's also a low-crime, wealthy city and VERY desirable zip code. I just want to resolve the gate issue. I have to live with the hedge being gone and an ugly vinyl fence replacing it. I wrote a note that I'll drop by their place later today, explaining the gate and the light issues, giving my VOIP line # to leave VM, and saying, "Let's talk, okay?" making it friendly. It's a couple with a kid -- young daughter -- and as neighbors go, especially locally, they're really better than a lot.
TYSM for the Prop 33 info. I was going to ask you. I'll definitely vote NO!
Betty, are you on a diet, girl? Because you don't need to be. Let's get with the Autumnal program of increasing the eats. Okay?

Okay?
As long as they respect your property, can be spoken with politely and reasonably, and they aren't eating your pets, right?

I don't have the neighborly or roommate-ly neuro-spicy. I am what I call a bliss-anthrope. Someone who is perfectly happy not liking other people.

Today seems to be another maybe day for Betty. She burrowed until 2:30 pm and then just looked at her food when she woke up. Not even a sniff and snub. Just before I left, she was sitting next to the deck door looking outside. She looked at me, looked at her food, licked her lips, and then went back to window watching. I don't know if that was a lick lip of hunger, thirst, nausea, tooth pain, impending hairball, or none of the above. But hovering over her wasn't going to help. So off to the taproom I went and wished her luck.

Oh there we go. I just got the Poop Cam notification. I gave her a few minutes to attend her Zoom call after and then I checked the Food camera. She's pawing away at the plate. I hope she finishes but I'm just relieved she started. Yes. We may need to wait for the last of the summer to depart for her eats and weights to stabilize.

Yeah. Now if they ate hillbilly babies... 😋
It's weird. I describe myself as formerly intensely social. Extended family, lots of relationships and friends in the past. Of course I only like compassionate, kind, gentle, preferably intelligent/geeky people. But this city doesn't seem to have a lot of qualifying people, and with most of those who have qualified, in my life, being gone, for one reason or another, I'm mostly in that boat, too. I want to like people. It's just that I can't. I miss social life. But "no company is better than bad company" is my mantra.
Fluff does the big cat covering prey thing. I'm insisting that he has all his meals in the breakfast room, where he can't because the floor is laminate and his dining table is an IKEA plastic tray.
Did she finish? Fluff is kind of un-catlike in that he often eats what he wants and leaves the rest for Mr. Garbage Disposal. 😞

Betty did not finish. She dropped a big, stinky one in the box yesterday afternoon (when I got the poop cam notification) and "the help" had the afternoon off. I don't know how sensitive she is to that stink. But I found her taking refuge in the office cave which definitely smelled better than the front room. I'm thinking that was a southern hairball. But I wasn't in the mood to pick through it. She left about a 1/3 remainder on the lunch plate. At dinner, she left about a 1/6 remainder. Remainders add up and she's feeling rather skinny. Thinking the heat may have something to do with it--especially with her luxurious winter coat coming in--I have decided to give her more on the overnight after all. And sure enough, she cleaned the overnight plate. So maybe while we're waiting for summer to finally leave us (never thought I'd hope for that!), I'll bump up the overnight meal to absorb any remainders she might leave midday and dinner.

I noticed over the weekend that we were down to our last two ondansetron pills. Of course, this was over the weekend. I created a note for myself: "ondansetron!" Then I added an M to the front. Today is Mondanestron. I thought I still have refills so this should be easy peasy. Except I kinda do and kinda don't. I ran out of refills on the old prescription. I do have the new prescription. But it's still the written prescription. The six refills it comes with are not yet in Walgreens system. So that's what I'm doing with my lunch break. I don't know if today will be a drop off and return tomorrow or a drop off and wait.

Oof! Today's going to be a warm one. I make it a habit now of checking the expected weather in the morning when deciding how high to pull up the bubblewrap insulation. Today is going to get up into the 90's. Sorry, Betty. It's a half mast day. I pull it up only to the first magnet which gives her just enough light to see her food or look out the window. Otherwise, it's going to be a cave day.

I'm feeling a little more sore today than I usually do after a Sunday long run. But I think I should still be able to run again next weekend. Maybe not tomorrow though. Heck, I may still be wrangling with Walgreens tomorrow. I signed up for the second of a potential four 5K's in five weeks.

What do you do during the week/between runs as far as workouts are concerned? In my experience, 2x a week are not enough. I need 4-5 times a week to maintain. I know running is different than workouts. But still, muscles that aren't used a lot for 5 days can protest. ;):sniffle: I'd do something -- even a light workout -- on at least every other "off" day. That's just how I'd deal with it.
Overnights are good for the Fluff, too. He was just eating what he wanted and then leaving the rest. But he has kind of gotten into the pattern of overnight visiting of the dining area. No one I know is as enthused about eating when it's hot, so I don't worry about that.
Hopefully Betty (and Fluff, The Furball King) will KEEP more of their luxurious fur as it gets cooler. That's the logic, anyway. *I love logic. But cats can, and do, have their own logic.*:catrub:

I run on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. But since the race was on Saturday, I only ran Tuesday last week. I don’t remember if this weekend’s run is Sat or Sun. But either way, a Friday run would be too close to race day. I’ll likely give the muscles one more day of rest tomorrow and do a Wednesday run. At this point, it’s no longer training. It’s just keeping the muscles loose for race days.

Betty did a little lunch nibbling before I took off for Walgreens. So far, it looks like I can get it filled today and then all the refills will also be in their system making the next several go much quicker. That’s the idea anyway.

Sounds good. On both. :walk:
