My gray Garfield long legging it. She looks so comfy, I want to climb in with her. Instead, I had to scoop her out so I could shoot her with evening foul (meds.)

I decided at the last minute to try the two pile experiment at dinner. But I didn’t adjust the enzymes proportion appropriately. So it’s a half dose in half the volume for a full strength dose. The difference is quite noticeable. I fully expect the left pile to be eaten first and the right pile to be a paw scraped mess.

That would be my choice, too. That second pile looks pretty vomitous, to be honest. As for rotation, the CAT calls that. *catcalls* Great Betty pix, BTW. I really love the first one. Not sure what she's thinking there, but it's definitely something portentous.
Fluff has taken to trying to cover up his prey when he's done eating. He insists on eating in the living room, so he's trying to rake the ancient carpet over his antelope or whatever.

Knowing cats, she’ll undoubtedly confound us all with this experiment.
She ate both piles. But yes. She preferred the chunky over the creamy. The creamy pile was definitely picked over with a paw.

The half dose proper looks predictably somewhere between the two. Sometimes she'll go nose in and eat it. And sometimes she picks it over with her paw. But so far, the half dose is still being eaten. I think the two pile presentation works for her. She'll eat one or most of one and then come back and finish the plate.

Hmmmmmm. What does Betty's dad think of this new weight?

Maybe more chunky piles?
She could use another quarter pound of insurance weight. She still feels a little bony at this weight.

It seems the chunky vs creamy is also dictated by how much A/D goes into the mix. More A/D, more creamy. So let’s see since I halved the enzymes if I can also reduce some of the A/D to get a thicker base to start with. That I warm up every meal in a hot water bath also makes it lean towards creamy. But she eats better when I do this. I can imagine if there is any dental pain, cold food wouldn’t be the best for it. Lots of variables. But so far she’s still eating better than last month.

I'd think it would depend on how cold it is, as to whether or not it would cause pain. If you tried feeding her direct from the fridge, she would undoubtedly refuse it after a bite or two if that was the case. I know Fluff really enjoys the fact that his food is cool during this extreme heat. Before I was vegetarian, I used to love cold roast beef and cold chicken. Not that that has anything to do with Betty or Fluff.
Yeah, a little extra wouldn't hurt, would it, Betty?:hearthrob::cutecat::hearthrob:

Came home at 5 today and I don’t think Betty woke since I left her at 2. Plate looked just as nibbled as when I left her. To be fair, I came home late from my run and so she got lunch an hour late. Her first pass was a few nibbles. When I came home, she was just waking up and looked at the plate and was like, “oh food!” 😋 So now I’m late on dinner waiting for her to finish lunch. Also to be fair, today was a hot one. So I’m just glad she ate something. Hopefully we can go dark and cool down tonight. Oh. Post lunch poop and zoom call! 🏎😹 We’ll get to dinner eventually. 🤦🏼‍♂️😹

Today is forecast to be the last extreme heat day for us here in la-la land. Hope it cools down for you too. That should help Betty to be more enthused for her food, right? Fluff has finished almost half a 5.5 oz of salmon this morning. He actually came in and slept with me last night! He hasn't done that for awhile now.

Looks like today and Friday will be warm ones with moderate days in between.

Betty impressed me last night. She ate 2/3 of lunch at dinner time. Then she finished dinner and overnight. On a hot day like yesterday, we only lost 1/3 of a meal to the heat.

I think Betty is losing her patience with the meds. I found her sitting just in front of the box she just used inside the enclosure. It’s like she knew meds were coming and didn’t think I would come into her enclosure for her. I waited her out while she chirped at me defiantly until she stepped out of the enclosure, then I scooped and plopped her into the office for morning dose. Like always, a few moments later she joined me cheek-to-cheek for third sleep.

Cats, like people, can get crochety in the heat. *Even though if we had the "heat" you're forecast to have, we'd be celebrating!!!* Forecast is for 107F today. Yes, again. Still. Yet. 🥵🙀

Without A/C and without good airflow in my apartment, anything above 80 is going to remain above 80 a good long time into the night. Yeah. Triples are rare here. But 90’s is miserable enough. That’s why I live up here and not down there. One of many reasons really. NorCal suits my vibe better than SoCal.

I know it's really hot when Betty doesn't want to sleep with me. She snuggles with me at bedtime and third sleep. And if I wake in the middle of the night, she may randomly try to sneak in or even steal my spot. But mostly, we give each other space to work out how we're going to get to sleep on warm day nights where the night hasn't yet cooled off the space enough. Come winter, she'll be glued to me or sleeping right next to me most nights.

Yeah. I like 60s daytimes and 40s nights. But it's been probably 90 and above nights here for the last week or so. I'm relieved that our beloved Elvis did not have to endure this. It was hot during his last days here, but 90s, not 107. Or 112. I love N Cali, too, but since my house is here, so am I. There's a huge fire (the Line Fire) near where I lived last location; with triple digit temperatures and fire-caused lightning strikes, it's another in a long line of horrors that happens every summer and there's only 3% containment so far. I know of a couple of guys who are firefighters and hope they are not on that detail.
It's almost impossible for me to sleep WOC (WithOutCat).

I forget the name of the fire. But one of the big ones up here is the reason why I have Dyson air purifiers in my home. The fire was big enough and the wind was blowing in the right direction that the air quality in San Jose got above 150 for several days. At that level, they tell you to stay indoors. The trouble is, the particulates were fine enough that you needed a HEPA filter to filter them out or, as what originally drove me to Best Buy, those particles cross the blood brain barrier and give you one mean headache. My work's office didn't have the right filters in their HVAC. So I went out and bought one and it was crazy satisfying to watch it clean up the indoor air on the app and the headaches to go away. I got another two more because I like the Wifi heater function and programmable schedules. When I road tripped with Krista, especially when I took her near the wildfires for her remaining mouth extraction with the dentist, I threw one of those Dysons into the car with us so we would have clean air in the hotel even in the belly of the beast. Plus the Dyson is quieter than the wall units in hotel rooms.

But anyway....

I don't really sleep without cat. We just have moments where we are either sleeping in separate rooms or she's sleeping in the shark above the bed. And when I get up for a midnight pee, she usually comes to find me for an extra snuggle session. Or she steals my back pillow. She's respectful enough to not try to snuggle me while I'm sleeping. But when I do turn over, she's often watching to see if I'm going to give her a snuggle opportunity. I'm a bit of a restless sleeper. I do appreciate that she's not a nocturnal clinger.

Yeah, we've had fires in Griffith Park, which I can see out my front door, and up in the foothills to the north of us. No filters and yeah, in the hot, stuffy, closed-up house that I couldn't open at night because of the bad air quality. I've taken pix of some of it. Truly hellish.
I'm hoping for nocturnal clinger(s- I'm hoping to adopt a buddy for Fluff and me as soon as I am emotionally strong enough) when it FINALLY cools down nights.

Your scary photos got me to thinking: “I can put a mask on myself for particulates but how do I make sure my cat can breathe OK if I have to get them through the smoke?” I Googled around and found this, not sure if it works.

Yeah. This was the major thing that bugged me during these events.

I have a couple shots like that too from November 9, 2018. Google tells me this was the Camp Fire. Sounds more fun than it was. It was the fire that burned down the town of Paradise. (Or “Pleasure” as the Demented One kept saying.)

You can pick your cats. You can pick your nose. And if yours is as chill as Betty, you can pick your cat’s nose. 😹
