Well, those are good PURRiorities, after all  and yeah, it can be hard to get a good cuke. I also have this problem with cantaloupes and pineapples. A good one of either is one of my chief gastronomic joys. But there are so many pithy, tasteless ones out there. Still, better than in the Mojave, where the pineapples were so bad I had to speak to the manager, contact the pineapple grower company, and get a check for my troubles. The pineapples up there didn't improve, which was the result I was looking for. I think they froze them en route from grower to store, with the result that they were often mushy and inedible soon after purchase.:sigh:🥒🍍:soapbox:
I don't think my palate is sensitive or sophisticated enough for cantaloupe. It's always tasted bland to me. Now pineapple! I have had fresh pineapple in Hawaii, straight off the Dole farm. Ruined me forever! I can't really do pineapple anyway because it's usually too acidic for me. I do enjoy a nice pina colada once every decade or so. Tru Fru (there's nothing tru about their fru! but dang it's good!) is a fruit confectionary brand. They have a white chocolate covered pineapple with coconut that is likely responsible for the delays in my necessary body composition readjustments. 🤦‍♂️

Well, I would expect so! and you don't owe any excuses to anyone for that! I like the straight, fresh stuff. If you get a really good cantaloupe, it's like nectar. You can tell a good one because it'll be fragrant at the stem site, and when you thump the fruit, it'll have a nice solid sound. The one I'm having now is one of the absolute best I've had. The pineapples have been good, too -- most from Costa Rica. We do get Doles from time to time. My own grapefruit are almost gone, but the new crop looks promising. They'll be edible starting in early winter.
Now you DID have to tell me about that pineapple.
I'm trying to forget I saw that.

Paw scraping her breakfast. Second trip to the fountains this morning. We may be in for a mess later. 🤦🏼‍♂️😿

She ate breakfast and dinner yesterday. But only scraped from lunch and overnight. 😿

Betty, like Elvis, is obviously "a character" as Elvis' dad says of him. But two out of four is 50% great. Hoping the drinks were just that.

I’m stuck hiding out in the kitchen right now. Because her paw scraping at lunch may be the only pass she makes at it. I’d be wise not to disturb her. 🤔👍

She ate most of breakfast and no messes yet. Maybe today’s can doesn’t impress her. 😾🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I know about hiding. Since Elvis has his new favorite place, and since his appetite is sometimes not what I'd like it to be, I hide, too, when I pass by a doorway and see him eating.
It looks like Betty is playing with prey. Is there any resemblance at all between her food and a mouse?
*I thought not.*

I don't think it's playing with prey. I think it's either she doesn't care much for it or possibly a tooth is hurting her. The latter would certainly explain why her eating has dropped off recently. It may also explain why she eats more heartily at breakfast and dinner (meals after medicine) than her meals possibly outside of her medicine's effectiveness. Or maybe she smells the hemp oil (even the olive oil base) and is finally sick of it. I suppose we could try holding off the CBD for a couple of outside meals to see if she eats more readily. But I'm also hoping that the CBD would help extend her gabapentin's effectiveness. I don't really want to medicate her more than twice a day. And I know she doesn't want that either. She has her semi-annual vet appointment in two weeks. I don't know if the vet could tell me anything about her teeth without sedation and X-rays that we don't already know (they're resorbing.) But we'll do blood and urine and rule out that stuff. Then I'll likely make Betty's appointment with the dentist and get her, get us both ready for a long wait time. 😿 I should have made the call at the start of the summer so that maybe we'd be finally seeing the dentist at the end of summer. Now I fully expect a three month wait.

Well, she waited until the last possible moment to finish dinner. I checked on her and she was sunning by the door with a half pawed at plate. So I told her, "well, if that's all you're going to eat, we'll switch out the plates after a pee break." I get out of the bathroom and see her finishing off her lunch. Back into the bathroom I go to hide until she's done. I don't know what that means for the other two meals tonight. But I'll take a clean plate when she gives me one. :yess: Almost didn't want to spoil that meal with her meds. But it would spoil her night without them. She doesn't much care for the meds. But she loves the brushing session and the Greenie I give her afterwards. She doesn't exactly volunteer for meds anymore. But she sticks around for the rewards. In the evenings anyway. In the mornings, I make a beeline back for bed and she gets to cuddle cheek to cheek with me. I suppose that's a pretty good consolation prize if she's not going to get a brush-down. 😽🥰

She finished her dinner. But she wouldn’t sit with me for mine. She is obsessed with just staring out the open deck door. Either she has a gentleman caller who is late. Or she’s plotting her escape.

She ate dinner without paw scraping.

I don’t want to leave CBD out of her overnight meal if it helps her sleep easier. Also, I won’t monitor her eating overnight (except this first pass.) We’ll try leaving it out of lunch tomorrow.

All TCS emails went in the spam box again :sigh::nono: so I'm just checking before clearing caches and logging off.
Hmmmm. Well, all's well that ends well? I wouldn't want to medicate more than twice a day, either. Especially since she doesn't like it much.
Do you think she has a visitor?:cutecat::kneading::think:Does she do that on a regular basis???

Well, the boyz are not eating great, either, and I'm convinced it's the heat, the ants, which I try to keep mopped up, and maybe just "That's not my favorite kind. And that's not, either.":sigh::sniffle:

That was the first time she would not stay in my lap. She sat for a minute. Then she climbed down and went to the door for a few minutes. Then she came back. And a minute later she returned to the door. We're not supposed to have any loose cats. But that doesn't mean we don't have the occasional neighbor on a stroll. But no. I don't think she has a caller. But she does seem to have a fancy for something in the air. After her breakfast treat and before I sat down for breakfast, she went to the office window which I have been leaving cracked at night. Cracked a lot less now that I know she's visiting that crack and the screen still isn't fixed yet.

Last night she ate about half of second dinner. Basically the paw scraping mess before we went to sleep. I don't think she returned. She ate breakfast today without issue. But lunch was a bust. I fed her a few morsels off the carpet at 3 pm just to make sure she didn't have any sour tummy spits. This was even without the CBD I usually try to hide in her lunch. She just wasn't interested today. Since she seems to be less interested in the middle meals, I'm going to see if I can fatten up the A/D mix and add a little more total food on the two meals she is still eating.

We'll discuss it at her vet appointment in two weeks. I hesitate to try to set up a dental appointment with her regular vet. Last time her regular vet told me that her extractions might be getting more complicated and gave me the fair warning that I should be seeking a specialist. In other words, there's a good chance that I could spend all that money getting her anesthetized and X-rayed at her regular vet only for her to call me up and say, "yeah, I don't feel comfortable trying these extractions this time." That happened to Krista. And I'm going to try to get out in front of Betty's resorption journey before it happens to her. Next call after Betty's vet appointment will be to the specialist.

Might as well go for the gold at the outset. Betty is more than worth it and deserves the best care. Knowing in advance what is going on with her teeth, you are that much in front of the game.
Hmmmmmmmmmm. Well, we both remember OC...so it could be someone else out for an (unauthorized) stroll. *Hope that screen gets fixed soon.*
I've been throwing away considerable good, expensive, nutritious food during these hot days. Dinner is always the favorite meal, but even that doesn't get finished most of the time now. :sigh:

I started the A/D mix back towards more "fudge". Perhaps she's giving the plate a sniff and saying, "this shrinkflation is B.S." So she's getting an almost 50% more A/D than she was: up from 4 grams to 5.5 grams. I might even put her back up to 6. But not all at once.

Did it work?

She ate 3.5 meals yesterday. Surprisingly, she finished lunch. But overnight was a paw scraped mess with half still remaining at breakfast in the morning.

Was the overnight portion enriched with the A/D?

I’ve never fully gotten the A/D out since her last round of extractions. We got as low as a 1:10 ratio (3 grams A/D to 30 grams I/D.). Now we’re looking at 6 to 28 or a little richer than 1:5.

Must be working out. Because instead of going out for my lunch run, I’m hiding in the bathroom waiting for her to finish eating as much as she’s going to eat on first pass (that hasn’t come this early in awhile.)

Loss continues. 9.44. I only just stabilized her eating (3 2/3 meals a day) with the enriched A/D mix on Wednesday. Hopefully next weekend will show a maintain or a gain.

Betty is in fine form, with glossy coat and perky ears!:hearthrob::lovecat3::hearthrob:
She knows this routine now. I brought the scale out and the treats. She reached a paw out like she was going to step on it. Then she pulled it back and waited for the treat. Super helpful because I needed to get the phone camera ready first. I only get a few seconds while she’s eating the treat for the scale to settle down, give me a reading, and snap a couple of photos before she leaves. It was super cute watching her figure that out in her head. No treat? No paws! 😹

Betty has you wrapped. And you love it. :hearthrob: :cutecat::hearthrob::petcat:
I know how that goes. Times two.
