I think she’s got a second wind between the gabapentin, buprenorphine, and any anesthesia drugs still in her. She’s still trying to poop. Or pee. But I wouldn’t think she would have any problem with that considering she has already peed. In the box at home. I am expecting a crash back to earth tomorrow when all the drugs wear off and she feels what she’s gone through for the first time. Hopefully I can bupe her easy enough. But if I can’t, doc said she could have extra gabapentin. She’ll take those on her own. 😸👍

Whoa! Look at that. First meal the morning after and she polished it off in one go. Now I sort of feel bad for advancing her meal about 15 minute or so. I’m not sure how much she slept last night. Every time I woke, she was hovering near the kitchen or near her plate. If this holds, I can’t wait to try new foods with her again.

Poor baby girl! She looks as if she's definitely gone through the wars. But her appetite being great! is a big, reassuring plus. Hoping the recuperation stage is very quick and that any pain or discomfort is soon gone.
CDs are a great idea right now.

Betty finished that small remainder at 6am’ish. Didn’t even wait for my breakfast. Now when my breakfast came, she was begging for treats. She came into the kitchen for her treats. She almost never comes into the kitchen. I didn’t teach her that rule. But it’s one I’m happy she has. I tried to soak a Greenie for her to soften it up. She wasn’t interested. I tried a regular Greenie and she didn’t want to chew it. Good. She’s not supposed to have hard food for two weeks. But she still wanted a treat. Desperately enough to come into the kitchen to tell me about it. Luckily I found two options. Boss Cat freeze dried raw morsels are soft like Oh! That too! I also have Stella and Chewy morsels. The other soft treat I found for her was Krista’s soft treat when she had her teeth removed and could no longer have fish flakes because of her IBD. I gave her a lamb green tripe treat. She struggled a little to take them from my hands. But she eventually found them on the carpet and ate them happily. So we’ll use the soft treats for a couple weeks. The green tripe should be good for her.

She spent all night on the floor. Mostly by her plate or the meds spot near the kitchen. She had a whole day’s fasting to make up for and the two portions I gave her overnight didn’t cut it. By morning, she had found that I turned the radiator on early for the both of us.

Finally treats had and I sit down for breakfast and she’s back in my lap. I mean. I know she’s not upset with me. We had a good floor snuggle and fuss session last night. But it’s a relief that she’s finally off the floor and back in my lap. Maybe tonight she’ll be back to cuddling in the bed. At least I didn’t have to worry about her tracking her pee soaked self into the bed. Maybe that’s why she spent all night on the floor. I think she’s finally groomed since then.

WOW! Making up for lost time! You will be kept busy keeping tabs on her weight with her new-found enthusiasm for her menu! and yeah, maybe introducing new varieties....

If I thought her light first pass on breakfast this morning was a presage of impending dip days that follow when the anesthesia drugs finally wear off and she feels what’s been done, well, she didn’t wait for me to wake from third sleep and give her her treats to go back to breakfast and nearly finish it. It has forgiveable crumbs remaining that she will probably finish before lunch. And if she doesn’t, it’s not enough to weigh the remainder.

She’s looking and acting more herself. Sleeping in my lap during meals and cuddling with me at night. I think her face looked a little odd the past day because of the swelling yes but also because they washed her tear stains and she hadn’t groomed her face back in place. I think she has since groomed her face and it looks less violated. (Less of that scruffy look from someone else washing a cat vs them washing themselves.) She also showed up on the kitchen counter for dinner last night. First time she did that in a long time.

She’s adapting well to the suspension of her Greenies. I offered her a pair of lamb green tripe treats. These were soft enough for a toothless Krista to gum her way through. They seem to be soft enough for Betty. And she seems to enjoy them. This is good news because that’s good nutrition to supplement her with: good for digestion and the immune system. And good for growing back her arm fur. There’s even a little fiber in there. I think we’ll keep these treats even when the Greenies come back.

Aside from the treats change, nothing else will change about her diet until after her two week checkup. I don’t want to risk something not agreeing with her and she throws up and maybe affects the sutures in her mouth. When the doc gives her blessing that we’re no longer under “change nothing” restrictions, I want to try higher protein, lower carb foods with her. As I told the doc, I don’t want to simply reduce her food to reduce her weight. I want her eating better.

We will also reconnect with the IM specialist and maybe she doesn’t need the ondansetron or maybe she can taper her pred a little further. I thought and I hoped that this dental would bring her relief. I can’t help but wonder how different this last year might have been were we able to do this back in February like originally planned.

YES on all of the above.
Really hoping that all gets back to "normal" not "post" but certainly "well into" the pandemic and its disastrous effects on veterinary medicine and its practitioners. An ESSENTIAL service and one that benefits humans as well as other-than-humans.
