Proves what most of us who love cats have always known: MOUSE is a cat's natural and favorite prey. Go Betty! Go Betty! Go Betty! :yess: :cheerleader::goldstar:
Oh that's still the I/D. She loves the stuff! As much as I may like her eating a less carby food, she eats this, and reliably so. That's one of the questions I have for the specialist. Do I really need to change up her diet when I finally have her eating a food she enjoys and enough of it? Also, it's not like I get feedback on which diets work or don't work for her. Except FF Beef. She gave me feedback on that and that's off her menu. But we can go two or three weeks between hairballs. And that's really the only presentation since the appetite and nausea seem to be resolved. Or rather I'm too chicken to take away the ondansetron just yet.

Mouser is still just feeder portions: an afternoon snack and the overnight is up to about a half portion. But we need to sit here for another night to make sure today's single squishy poop piece was a one-off and not a sign.

But we have had at least one I/D case and one A/D case where Betty took a sniff and turned away. "I'm not eating that." I've learned to trust the wisdom of cats and their sniff test.

Oh yeah. When you know what can happen from manufacturer through the trucking route to the vendor, you know it's pretty much a crap shoot, excuse the term, as to the freshness of the food. I remember well the turned-up Betty nose! and I'm sure she did it with good reason.

I don’t order cases anymore. I just pick them up directly from one of several local VCAs. Betty did not like the delivered cases. The last couple weekends, I bought two cases at a time. So I’m one case just started and three in inventory. I can wait until next weekend (payday) to buy two more.

She’s shy. I’ll post better pictures when she’s had more time to acclimate. It took me about an hour to get her all settled in to her room with cameras only to realize there are significant blind spots. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I’m out of practice with my cat surveillance. 😹 In any case, I don’t want to keep interrupting her. She did a lap or two of the room, used the box, dug to China, and now she’s back under the tree.

This is an acclimation room setup. The box is in the nook behind my desk chair. That’s not a sustainable location. So one friend told me just leave her locked away in her acclimation room tonight and you’re saying open it up tonight. Maybe I need to make a new thread for this question?
I would leave the door ajar in case she wants to explore a little. I think keeping the door closed makes sense if there is a resident cat involved

You’re about six months late to this, but thanks! I left the door open and she cuddled up into my armpit. She started a routine that we both look forward to every night. Interestingly, it took her three months to decide she wanted to sit in my lap.

This is last night. I always let her decide how close she wants to snuggle.

She’s been sleeping through her Mouser portions on the overnight. I think I’ve had the feeder opening too late in the morning. (3am which is comparable to a 3pm snack portion she gets. But her day and night sleep schedules are different. Especially with the hot nights returning. I’m going to simply try a midnight/1am feeder of 2/3 of a portion (21 grams vs a likely eventual 34 - 36 gram full portion.) If I’m lucky, this will be filling enough tonight until we can try a larger portion tomorrow. And if I’m really lucky, she’ll settle right into this new routine and we won’t have to waste a half a can of I/D every night. And I won’t have to wake to prepare overnight meals anymore. 😴👍

Today’s weigh in was stable despite consistently higher calories. I guess pred does run her system faster and requires more calories. I won’t ramp her up all at once. But I won’t sweat a heavy pour on her Mouser portions.

Last week was 9.60. Otherwise known as within the rounding error of the scale.

From a calorie’s perspective yesterday, she ate just fine. But that overnight was too small for her. She didn’t really tell me so until 4:30am. Breakfast scheduled for 5:30am. She parked on my shoulder and then the body pillow when I needed to roll to my side and was a great sport about it. Patient and mostly silent. An odd chirp now and then. Krista would have done a whole song and dance the entire hour.

Hmm. I expected her to plow right through breakfast. But it looks like she’s leaving a hefty remainder. Half maybe? Plenty of time to finish. Not worried.

As for the overnight, she’ll get a little more each night this week until it’s a full portion. Or two half portions in separate feeders. It sure was nice not having to wash a plate, open a new can, and dump half of it in the middle of the night.

Alright. Time for after breakfast fuss before we climb back into bed for third sleep. 6FEBF709-F5D5-4A85-AFE9-60B6F109C47F.jpeg

WD? We have AD and ID here. AD is only used for meds now. As for ID, her overnight Mouser portion is intended to replace a half can of I/D I dump every night. It was also really nice not having to wash a plate and prepare a new one at midnight.

She finished the breakfast remainder during third sleep. I love when she does that. It means I don’t have to worry about her food until lunch. Of course it also means she will come into the office and stare at me for awhile then head back out until the next serving of hangry judgement. This will proceed until I finally give in around noon. When I’ve hit a breakpoint in my work, I’ll turn my chair towards her and she’ll get up and approach for some fuss. Otherwise she is content to just sit there, watch me, and maybe think some judgy thoughts. 😾

A/D is so perfect for meds, both in terms of texture and palatability! I fed dewormer powder in A/D to both our cats, three days in a row, and each day both cats finished every last granule of Panacur and clump of A/D. The vet sounded skeptical when she asked how the deworming had gone and was then pleasantly surprised when I said it was really easy with A/D. We're going to deworm three times a year and I'll definitely use A/D again.

I briefly thought Western Digital before, but couldn't figure how that related here. That D-Link box is her elevated breakfast/dinner tray. For med meals, we feed just outside the kitchen. Her regular meals go in her regular spot. I do med meals separately because it's easier to manage the capsules and the A/D closer to the kitchen than closer to the bed.

Speaking of WD, I was reading an article earlier this morning about how Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation could crash 5400 rpm hard drives due to a resonance effect between a frequency in the music and the spin speed of the drive. 🤦‍♂️ I don't know where this story has been hiding for the last 15 years. 🤷‍♂️

I guess in this case the "D" in "D-Link" could mean "Dinner"...and thanks for the info! No matter how much info you take in, you always miss SO MUCH because it's just endless. Oh well.
