Hello everyone! I wanted to chime back in here as an update with cat intros plus share some pictures. It’s been about 10 almost 11 months now with our two cats.

M1 resident cat who is almost 2.
M2 is new cat who is about 3.5 years old.
(their real names are Mango and Melon but I’ve always referred to them as M1 and 2 on here).

It was a rough start initially. Plenty of history in my posts. M2 still gets bullied by M1 at times. M1 will “stand guard” at our bedroom door at night sometimes, blocking M2 from coming in. M1 also does not hesitate to give M2 a quick paw to the face whenever they’re close enough to reminder who’s boss.

However! We’ve seen them chase each other back and forth. M2 will even tackle M1! So they seem to have learned to play a bit. We’ve had to step in only a few times when one started getting vocal. M2 is a bit of a pig and will eat from M1’s bowl but M1 doesn’t seem to care too much which we were surprised. M1 tends to groom M2 first and M2 will usually reciprocate. Then it deteriorates into M1 either biting M2’s neck/body or forcibly grooming and holding her down lol. Sometimes it’s a battle of who is grooming who so we definitely think it’s a dominance thing. But the fact that they’re grooming has to be positive right? They get along very well when they hunt bugs together as seen below. When it is cold in the house, they will have a truce and both will sleep with us in bed at night. I’ve only caught them this close once!

They really are doing well. Sometimes (in fact, more often than you'd think), one cat is always the Boss Cat, and periodically reminds everyone else of that fact. Dominance is, to some degree, perfectly normal in a multi cat household. But as long as there are no "real" fights (fur in the air, blood on the floor), you're doing fine! And so are they. Those pictures say it all. If you had real issues still, those adorable pics would not exist! WELL DONE!
