Don’t be too upset, you know what it is now and even what antibiotics will heal it. That is great! It looks like it is resistant to the two antibiotics that were given to her. So they didn’t work. Now they will know what works. It is a really common infection in hospitals in humans. Your little one ought to be in the road to recovery now! I will pray for a quick recovery , please keep us posted!

The good news is that they know what it is. That`s huge with infections, now they can target the bacteria with the appropriate antibiotics.

:hugs:

How is your girl doing? Is she still in all those bandages? Does she seem any better?

hello! so, she is miserable at the moment, she was out of a bandage for 2 days but she has it back on because tomorrow the vet is closed so she can't receive her antibiotic injection. that will resume Monday and bandage comes off Monday. Dr. Seo was doing baby powder to absorb all the moisture and it was doing great, we did that for 2 days, then he decided he wanted to try a cream yesterday to see if it works better than the baby powder. it didn't work out as well, she was very weepy and in pain! today, he told us he needed to speak to us about the results and figured that's why, it gets better, and then worse. she is asleep at the moment. we have to go back to the vet every single day to get her cleaned by the vet and get her injection which will be 100$ per day til she is healed unfortunately. I just want her better. her dr is really kind and doing everything he can, he really cares for her as he has been seeing her for 3 months, he is trying his best to get her taken care of, he and his boss and another dr there are all on her case working together.

though, I do have this from yesterday and this is what it was looking like which is tons better compared to what it was before:

If it`s any consolation, when The Mu had her surgery to recover from infected mastitis it looked way, way worse than that and the vet wouldn`t let me bring her home for 3 weeks. And I`ve treated feral cats with mange who were totally bald and covered in crusted scabs. They recover, their fur grows back and they heal up and they don`t remember anything about it.

:hugs:

I know it`s upsetting for you, but it sounds like your vet is giving her the best possible care.

Sending you get well soon vibes.

That does look so much better! This is not medical advice, but we tried creams on my avatar when she was a bloody mess and it seemed to make everything worse. I mean any cream...prescription, OTC, etc. Keeping the skin drier seemed to be more a relief to her.

I was suspicious about Convenia not working and now you know that it did not work because it is not effective against that condition.

You are doing a great job helping your baby and sticking by her through all of this. Please keep us posted.

Did they ever take a culture of the wound to see what they are dealing with? Is it fungal, bacterial, etc.? I would start there to deal with it with what it needs. Maybe oral steroids too, different antibitics. Maybe time to see another vet. It may be like a MRSA or staph infection taht really needs a specific antibiotic. Testing would eb teh frist step.
My God, that is horrible, that poor, sweet baby! I will pray for her to get better!!!!
I totally agree with seeing ANOTHER vet. That was my first thought when reading the story.

Thanks, I am just catching up with them. How is your cat today??
she wiggled out of her bandage so I emailed her Dr. he said to take it off, baby powder, and put on a spay onesie and monitor her stomach today, make sure it stays dry. she's catching up on sleep currently. I wish I could say she is better but it's only been one day since she's had her first antibiotic injection. her mood is improved, however. hoping for a speedy recovery on her tummy and trying to kick pseudomonas out of her life. (hopefully.)

Can she just wear an Elizabethan collar instead of a wrap or onesie? Or must the surface be kept sanitary? I have read that it is or can become highly resistant to antibiotics, so I do hope what they are using works to kill this bacterium. I would be wondering how your cat got it. Perhaps from unsanitary surfaces at that clinic? Dirty gloves? What?? And after doing a little more reading, I understand why they scraped it off the abdomen. Before that, it made little sense to me to not allow the body to recover on its own. Sending hugs. (Oh, and I was fuming when they insisted on her being spayed before they would do the dental. Vets are not gods.)

has to be kept sanitary. she wears cone as well except for when she is asleep. the onesie is for today because the bandage came off. tomorrow I find out if the onesie is necessary at all, I feel like it creates more friction than anything so I will speak to the vet about that. I believe she got the infection during her spay procedure in September at a different vet office than the one i currently go to. I am pretty certain they were unsanitary when I saw the nightmare they left her stomach and how it just wouldn't heal. I wish they would take accountability and responsibility for it.
