i'd like it if drifter threw herself at the door or made any other sound to tell me she wants out.
i don't want a potty mistake because i didn't let her out.
i could train her to the front door, but the delivery trucks come there.
i just wish she would let me know that she understands what the litter box is for.
it has quality litter, covered by the bark mulch she is used to.

the problem is, she is not an indoor cat that goes outside.
she's an outdoor cat that visits inside.

Not sure it's worth a "test", but you could put her in a bathroom with the litterbox for 12 or 24 hours and see if she uses the litterbox, or bathtub or floor. Probably not worth the time or the stress on her though. I expect she's outside enough that her preference is going outside to potty.

The weather's been really nice lately, so I've left the patio door wide open for Misfit to come snoop around. I haven't watched her every move, and keep sort of expecting her to spray somewhere. Two days ago, I put a brand new fleece blanket on one of the folding chairs outside. The first thing she did was urine-spray it. I guess that means she likes it.

It's chipped tree bark. You put it on flowerbeds and around trees to hold in soil moisture and prevent erosion. Also makes a nice outdoor kitty litter. :p

also, it holds down weeds. i'm no fan of weeding.

it's so sad that misfit sprays.
it sure looks like she wants to spend time in the house.
don't give up hope, tho.
drifter never gets into trouble because she has different rules for indoors, that she made up herself.
outside is for play. indoors is for snacking, cuddling n relaxing.

she jumps up on the couch to be with me, but has not climbed anything at all.
she ignores food on the counter.
she' very well behaved n probably will remain so as long as she gets to go outside.
perhaps misfit will make rules too.
um, i think bad things might happen if drifter gets locked up.
i am thinking of wrapping her in a blanket to get the flea stuff on her skin.
she hates it.

Misfit walks around a bit then I don't see her. The door's wide open when I give her "privileges". I'll start looking for her and she's usually gone back out on the patio.

When I have the door shut, she acts like "I want to come inside!" When the door is open, she thinks, "I don't want inside. I just like it when you have the door wide open." :p

looks like misfit hasn't figured things out yet.
drifter knows full well where the food is.
plus, i feed her inside now, since i'm lazy.

today, i put 2 n 2 together.
i've been feeding one cup/day,
which should be fine for a big kitty.
but, she's been leaving 1/4 cup.
that is not enow.
certainly not enow to gain weight on.
i think she eats friskies for the taste, but she's eating pretty good
on her own.

visa won't pay or charge me.

has anyone ever heard of a female's heat being affected by the scent of males?
if the nearest male is more than 3 miles away, would that change a female's bodily functions?
if drifter was born early last spring, i should have seen one heat.
i'm thinking that symptoms would be less noticeable if she doesn't know males exist?
not finding anything online.
i certainly haven't heard loud wailing or different behavior.
she is a proper young lady.

If anything, she would go into heat every few weeks if she doesn't mate. Maybe you just haven't noticed the symptoms? They don't bleed when they're in heat, so the symptoms are behavioral.

no yowling, she always wants touches.
what else do i need to look for?

i've known human girls that can't make babies.

But infertile human women still have monthly cycles.

She would be very affectionate, hold her tail over sideways if you scratched down close to her tail, possibly crawling with her front legs close to the floor while holding her back end up high in the air, licking her lady parts more than normal bathing, and/or yowling. The yowling may only occur if she were to smell a male outside.

well, i've seen nothing like that.
i may not be the most observant person, but i should have noticed those signs.
i'll be on the look out.

if somebody neutered her, i'm holding someone else's cat.

You're not holding her; she goes in and out so she could have backtracked home. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a vet check for a microchip if you ever take her for a checkup. They really can't just look at a cat and tell if it's spayed though, unless she has a spay scar or tattoo.

The picture you posted sure looks like she's at least a year old. If she doesn't go into heat in the next few months, I'd guess she is spayed.

if shes spayed, no litter for me.
plus, i'll at least have to offer to buy the cat
now, i'm wondering if she's too old to be pregs.
fangs are fine but back teeth seem worn down.
in the black part of her coat, i see white, brown n gray.
i was assuming grey was just a normal cat color, but could
it show age?
see, what i don't get is if someone kept her long enow to neuter,
she should have been handled plenty.
i sure saw no signs of that.
of course, i have no idea how long a cat must live in the wild to forget socialization.

Maybe she's a late bloomer. She doesn't look elderly to me. Did you get a look under her tail yet? The teeth toward the back are smaller anyway, they are pointed like little triangles. You would definitely notice if she was in heat, she'd do the butt dance with her butt in the air, and do this little purring song as she runs around rubbing on everything.
