If You Had Been a Boy/Girl

I called my mom to ask today: If I was a boy, what would you have named me? She said she hadn't really thought about it, but how did I feel about Benjamin? I said I liked that name very much and it was settled. 
I would have been Benjamin Lynn, with the Lynn for my mom's cousin who died of cancer as a teenager. My middle name was (or is?) Lynn. I dropped it accidentally as a legal name by using my maiden name instead on my marriage license. I was so nervous at the moment that names never occurred to me. I disappointed my sweet mom without meaning to! She insists my middle name is still Lynn, but my friend tells me my name has been legally changed.
