My cat has had issues for 5 yrs. My vet will not do anything. I found one who is willing to find out what's wrong, not guess and not solve the problem. But my cat was too scared going to a new place with a new doctor. I read about a pill to calm her. Can I still give that to her if the vet sedated her?

Are you intending to give her the pill before going to the vet for a sedated exam? If so, I would check with the vet for any negative drug interactions. The vet may also be willing to prescribe anti-anxiety medication that is safe to use with sedatives just in case the medication alone isn't calming enough for a thorough exam.

Thanks. Because of the virus, I cannot get close to the vet so I can calm her down. Giving the pill will be hard!

This might have gotten his attention. A couple weeks a go I finally convinced him to give her a b12 injection and her throwing up stopped for 13 days. No more lethargic. Now it's starting again

Working at a vet hospital myself, it is a bit more difficult when clients aren't allowed in the building. Usually animals are easier to handle away from the owners because they know their usual tricks won't work, but there's the handful of animals that are the opposite. A scared cat, as long as it isn't trying to murder the staff, can still be fully examined without medication or sedation.

Does your cat have IBD? My aunt's cat has IBD and CKD. B12 injections and a high quality, limited ingredient diet help manage her throwing up. Since she needed to give the B12 so often she was given a dozen or so pre-loaded syringes to administer the injection whenever needed. Other cats seem to only improve on prescription diet (homemade/raw might help, but next to no one wants to put in the effort).

She has had no testing. He will not do it. He is worried about stressing her but bringing her back and forth causes stress. She is fine during a physical exam but not with this new vet. I took her there once and she did not like it

So your vet hasn't even done any bloodworm, urinalysis, or fecal? That's ridiculous. What do you mean by her not liking the new vet? Is she just stressed in general or does she behave aggressively and try to hurt herself and/or others? With all the covid craziness I wouldn't worry about just being stressed and not wanting to go. A lot of pets aren't happy about the masks and the general chaos. I would encourage you to try the new vet without medication unless they recommend it due to her behavior.

I'm glad you'll be getting a second opinion from another vet on Monday. I agree with sabrinah sabrinah that most pets, although not all, are easier to handle away from their owners. I think it's harder on us than on them. ;) Hopefully the new vet will be able to do a thorough exam with bloodwork and help diagnose your cat's health concerns. Please keep us posted after your vet visit. Good luck!:goodluck:

Luckily nothing is wrong. He gave her another b12 shot and appetite stimulant. I am glad that she got all the testing. I was surprised that there was a down payment of almost $400. So it end up costing twice that. Xray, cbc, chemistry, even a specialist to look at the radiology. She is a senior cat and has not had testing since she was a kitten
