I have spent 4 hours online and read reviews..and too many bad reviews on vests for walking
cats..and them getting out of them or either chaffing their skin or too hard to get them on a cat.

I would like something light weight, no chemical smell to the fabric
Would prefer not to have to slip it over her head...and non velcro for belly area if possible..
She is about a 16 inch at largest belly area... she is a long cat...

Please tell me what you
do use and send me name of it..and sizing..you suggest..

I use a 8 way thin nylon harness that adjusts around the neck and and around the chest..

but she
backs out of it in seconds when outside with her..Here is Lily...

My cat is 12 pounds and I use the same type of harness. It is adjustable with closures for the neck and chest that click closed like on a fanny pack. You don't have to put it over their head. Chiqui has never gotten out of it. I have an extra one that I can give you if you like.
Send me a private message and let me know.

thank you both...

and debbila how do I send a private message on here to you? Can you give me the name and brand of vest and size and where to find it? I am measuring Lily and her neck is ll inches loose and chest 17 inches loose standing up
at fullest part..

I would rather it be a little loose for growth as she ages...
She may weigh 14 pounds..no way to weigh her but 2 years
ago she weighed close to that at the vets office.

When members look at our post and answer it is so appreciated by me and others.

We are not lazy we do our research online and in stores but sometimes it gets mind boggling
reading reviews for hours and not knowing if a competitor is putting down an item as negative
or if it truly is an awful vest or halter in workmanship , or hurts the cats skin or neck.

I can not understand why a manufacturer does not make a lightweight cotton and poly cat vest
chemical and scent free.....fabric

that comes up high enough under the neck but does not impede the cat looking down and around
by not giving a choking feeling to the cat in the neck or chest and buckles that snap instead of velcro.

and Size it correctly..and make vest or halters for cats 12, 14, 16, 18, and 22 pounds and length needed
in inches.
and length...

So thanks to any of you that do respond to me.

I have 13 and ~20 lbs cats, and I find this harness in small works extremely well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005CTGC7O/?tag=thecatsite just double check your cat falls within the measurements. Make sure you measure in the correct places on the ribs and neck, as well.
  • Small - 11.9" x 16.6" Chest Girth / 10.6" Neck Girth

Sounds like she could be the right size for the M at the smallest size. You could always order the S and M, and return the one that fits less properly. If the S is too small and M ends up a tad too large, you could always sew it a bit to make it fit a bit more snugly.

Can you tell me where to buy the vest, and would you buy the medium for Lily
14 pounds ll inch neck and a 17 inch across rib cage at middle of her body..half way down her length..

She got out of that 8 way harness today 2 times and me having her tied to a tree with 20 foot of leash in the shade
while I planted a flower.. Later today I saw a non poisonous snake on my porch..let it go

but rattlesnakes or copper heads or mocassins are always possible even in a manicured clean yard

and I had one bite my other cat and it died a excrutiating death crying for 20 minutes...and me crying too
when I got out the driveway Leo died in the carrier..before we got to the vet..
Nothing he could have done anyway..to save him..

I call Lily houdini...

thanks Sheri

I have many harnesses and although what has worked for Rox seems to be the opposite of what you're going for, it looks like you have great feedback. The backing out behavior is fortunately not something that I've seen, probably because she leads me. I do enjoy reading about the different options though.

I bought the puppia rite fit harness in size Medium

it worked great for Lily who is 14 pounds
ll inch neck and 17 inch through chest and abdomen

there are many who look alike so notice if anyone
is searching..this one comes up high enough on the neck
and can close at neck..I do not tighten mine too tight
as I do not want Lily to feel as if she is choking...

You can laugh at her eye expression in the picture
it was first time it was put on her this week for 5 minutes
then removed it..

Will give her time to get adjusted in the house
and walk her next week outside in our quiet yard so she can
see the deer and hear the birds that visit..

Thanks to those that responded!
Sheri and Lily
