I’m sorry to hear you haven’t seen Smoothie since she left. It’s a very sad situation. Please try to find some solace in the fact that your daughter is safe and well. That is what is most important. Also, please make sure your husband goes to the doctor. His wounds look serious enough to need a doctor‘s advice, and possibly antibiotics. I know it’s hard to get my husband to go to the doctor, but try to convince your husband to go, even if just to urgent care.
Feel free to continue to share your feelings. We are here to support you. Are you getting any rest? Make sure you continue to drink plenty of water. When I get upset or stressed I do not drink enough water and the dehydration makes everything seem even worse.

Thank you. I feel like I’m repeating myself a lot because I just can’t get it through my head that it went down like this. Especially because we were basically forced to let her outside since she wouldn’t let either of us leave the rooms we were trapped in. I am so happy that my daughter is safe. I’m also happy that she wasn’t old enough to comprehend what was going on. It probably would’ve been very traumatic for her.
I know, my husband is also stubborn and thinks that cat bites can’t be that serious but I told him his really are, they are all bruised up. She came at him like she wanted to kill him.
I’m trying to sleep, but with a 5 month old that struggles to sleep without me and my mind racing a million miles a minute, I’m getting about 6 hours of sleep a night. Today, I’ve been trying to stay hydrated. My emotions are all over the place. One minute I’m really missing her and crying. The next I’m laughing with my daughter and husband. Then I get mad. I’m mad that the first attack ever happened. It really doesn’t seem fair that Midnight and Smoothie fought. Since that moment, you never really could fill on trust her. She had regained my trust though, and I let my guard down.

I’m glad I got to experience Smoothie from August 31, 2020 - May 9, 2022. There were some hard moments, moments I thought she wasn’t going to make it. Moments I thought she may get hurt, or was already hurt. However, the majority of moments with Smoothie brought me great joy. I loved seeing her play with my outside dog when she was a tiny kitten. I loved when she first started eating solid food, and she kept missing her face when she was trying to learn how to clean herself. I loved playing with her in the yard, watching her attempt to climb up the same tree her dad did. I loved watching her play with Midnight, and just looking at him in admiration. I loved the way she greeted me at the door everyday. I loved her loud purr. I love waking up in the morning, and seeing her lay in her little bed. I loved the way she flew down the stairs and would purposely miss 6 steps at a time. I loved the way she would always try to get in the shower with me. She was a beautiful cat, and even though I’m beyond upset that this happened, I wouldn’t trade it for a moment. I hope she is okay wherever she is.

I'm so sorry for you all about what has happened. It's okay to repeat yourself or to swing from tears to laughter. You're processing your grief and trauma. I would be a total wreck if anything like that happened with my kitty that I am most bonded with. There will probably never be a way to fully comprehend what happened. For as much as we know about cats and how they "think" and react, we'll never know it all. Just like with people, there is a wide variety of outcomes given similar life circumstances. From everything I've read and seen (in your beautiful pictures), she was cherished by you and you did the best you could for her.

Thank you. We do cherish her so much. I tried so hard to keep her. We went looking for her again, and still no sign of her. It’s been so hot these last few days that I do hope she is finding a good water source. I know cats can stay gone for awhile after going missing, but I thought she was going to come right back when she went outside. I know we can’t keep her, but at least we could possibly take her to the vet, and let her be outside at my mom and dads where they have a bunch of land and there’s always field mice. I’ve been doing the what if’s a lot today, and it’s been rough. I kept thinking, “what if someone mean has her, or what if she’s stuck somewhere and can’t get out which is, or what if she is lost?” I had to tell myself that I can’t do that because I don’t know the answer so why put myself through the worries.

I keep looking in the house where she would always sit, and it’s quite hard. She would greet us at the door everytime we came home. I never thought there’d be a moment so soon that she wouldn’t be there.

Up and can’t sleep. I’m thinking about her a lot. I know cats have been missing for longer, and have showed back up so I shouldn’t lose hope. This was the first time she’s been outside though since she was 2 months old. I’m scared for her. She’s never experienced a mean person. It’s 2 AM on a Friday, and she could either be asleep, roaming, in someone’s house, or something worse. I feel physically ill from this. I tend to have strong feelings, and sometimes it’s more of a curse than a blessing. I wish my cat was still in my apartment.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy that my daughter is safe and at least we know now that Smoothie’s problem never really was fixed. I just think I’m experiencing the stages of grief. I want her to be okay.

I am just about to go through something similar.

We adopted Sybil 7 years ago and although she hasn't always seen eye to eye with our other cat Minnie they decided to tolerate each other.

Sybil over the last while has looked very sad she has started peeing on random things, hiding away and a few other things linked to stress. The vets have said its stress related.

Last night we made the hardest decision ever to have Sybil rehomed as she deserves a pet free home and can't handle the thought of her being sad and scared.

I am grown man and my cats are my life tbh i feel the worst i have ever felt even though i know its the right thing to do im in bits. Have hardly slept at all last night thinking about this. Today I had to get my wife to phone the cats protection for Sybil to be rehomed every time i keep thinking about not seeing her again i break down. Today is the last Friday i will see Sybil as she will be rehomed on Sunday. I am going to have to tell my daughter who is almost 4 that Sybil is away to a new home which will be awful as she is attached to both cats.

I keep thinking if there is anything else i can try before Sunday but i have tried everything possible including suggestions by the vet.

I am really worried that whoever gets to rehome her wont give her the time as she is very shy and timid and she might end up back for rehoming.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through a similar situation. Poor Sybil. Is there any way that instead of handing her over to someone to do the rehoming, you have a family member or friend that doesn’t have animals that would take her? That way you could still see her?

These situations are awful. You’re doing what’s best for your kitty though. The unknown of not knowing if your kitties are still okay is what gets me. When Sybil leaves and you no longer know if she’s alright, you will just have to have faith that she is. That’s what I’m having to do with Smoothie. I have to keep thinking that even though I have no idea where she is and if she’s alright, she has to be okay. It’s the only thing that allows me to rest. We will get through these times.

I firmly believe that when I die, I will be reunited with all my previous animals. I told my husband, if I never see Smoothie in this life again, I will see her one day. It’s what has always comforted me when something happens to any of my pets. You just have to believe that everything will be okay.

Hi

Thanks so much for the reply sorry to hear your going through the same thing. Unfortunately nobody else she can go which makes it even more difficult.

It takes alot for me to get upset and never seeing her again is breaking my heart.

I may phone and speak to the women at the cats protection to put my mind at rest as im really struggling with everything.

Still no Smoothie. Had another breakdown tonight because Midnight used her litter box. :( I still haven’t got around to cleaning it because I’m not sure why, and then when I came upstairs and went into the office, there was a big pee stain right in the middle of it. It’s weird the things that will make you sad. It made me so upset because she should still be here using her litter box. :sigh:
Regret of the day is not trying harder to get Midnight and Smoothie back together. My husband was gone all day working, and I was a very tired pregnant person. I barely had enough energy to clean, let alone work with the cats. I would get them to play with each through the cracked door, and they literally touched noses and didn’t react at all. I was terrified of them fighting again, so I kept prolonging it. My husband really started working with them, and one day Smoothie randomly hissed at Midnight. He stopped doing what he was doing, and came and told me that Smoothie had hissed. She didn’t try to fight, but she seemed weird after that for a few minutes. Maybe I should’ve tried harder. I doubt that would have affected anything, but who knows. :dunno:

I know it’s very possible for Smoothie to still show up. Midnight once went missing for a week, and we thought we had lost him forever, and then when it came a rain storm he showed back up! My husband told me something today while I was crying. He said while he was watching Smoothie outside, she did a big stretch up on the side of the apartment, kinda scratched her paws on the brick, and then he looked away for a second and when he looked back she was gone. Is it possible she was marking her scent?

amarshall0919 amarshall0919 please don't lose hope as I know how difficult it is with all that you have going on. She is most likely scared and hiding.
Thank you very much. All I want is to hopefully be able to tell her bye, if she is not in a bad moodShe may very well still be on edge so if she shows up in a fighting mood I don’t know how that will go. :runaround:

On another strange note, something showed up on our camera for 5 seconds a few hours ago at 1 AM. It’s so blurry because of nighttime and since it recorded for so little, it’s hard to even tell what it is. It sorta resembles Smoothie, sorta an opossum, sorta an alien like creature. Honestly, I’m not even sure what the heck it is lol. Before it started walking again, it done a hiss. Whatever this thing is, it actually almost made me laugh😂 I’m pretty sure it’s not her because it looks too small even for her, but maybe the same creature will walk by again soon. It’s real life blob.

Okay now that it’s morning and I keep looking at that video, I’m starting to get a nervous stomach because I feel like it is her. If it is her, it looks like she’s walking different so she could be hurt. I have a huge pit in my belly. :(

*Edited: Literally every time I watch it I get more nervous. I’m probably overreacting, but it does look like her I just can’t find her tail. The hiss even sounds like a cat. I hope she’s alright.

I had a glimpse of hope this morning thinking it was her, but that is not her. That is for sure a possum. Maybe we’ll see her soon.

Have you tried a trap?
Yes, we ended up accidentally catching one of the other friendly neighborhood cats. :( she has kittens and we’re afraid to put the trap out at night in case we accidentally catch her again. There’s so many cats around here, and it’s so weird that she hasn’t came back around.
