Hi.
I just need advice really. I have been taking care of 4 baby kittens since Wednesday. I found them crying in my barn and mother of the kittens was next to them but she already passed away. I spoke to vet over the phone as we don’t have vet close by, the said she probably passed away due to complications during labor. This is first time I’m taking care of kittens that young, they were only one or 2 days old and now they are about a week old.
2 of them doing very well gaining weight perfectly I feed them every 2h day and night (not easy I felt like zombie for the first few days)
The third one is not too bad is just tiny bit under weight but the fourth one is the one I worry about the most, the kitten is not gaining weight as it should, the kitten is still active but not consuming enough food
I watch many videos online and they said to switch to every 3h feeding and hopefully she will intake more food.
I am scared she will loose weight if I do that.

If you have any advice for me I would really appreciate it. I really want to give them the best care. I am also constantly worry that something will go wrong

we usually advice little but more often for the weak ones…
you can try with a little glucose sugar on the gum inside the lips shortly before feeding. it gives energhy and some calories.
in usa they use a droplet of white caro syrup as it may be difficult to get glucose / dextrose proper.

in what country are you?
what kmr do you use?
can you get raw goats milk?

tx for helping these small brethren of ours!

I live in the UK
I started of with Royal canine milk powder but it was difficult to get in pet stores so I’m using Beaphar lactol
Unfortunately I cannot get goat milk
Will karo light corn syrup work?
I tried feeding every hour but the kitten was not interested, sometimes she drink good amount with the 2h feeding I’m doing and sometimes it’s very difficult to get her to drink more than 2-3ml

ok so try with this 3 hours. beaphar shoul be ok.

yes that syrup should work, but if you can get real dextrose / glucose sugar, is best.
I looked online but not sure which one to get I don’t want to make it worse
Someone said tiny bit of honey works
Does it?

I think so. This is not the same as sold in sweden, but should be. Dextrose Its the commercial name for glucose sugar.

Take this Laraska dextrose, if you can get it.

Useful in many emergency situations,
and also for human use, as mild sweetener in bakery etc

Re RC milk powder. Its a good kmr, but may sometimes give constipation. The trick is to dilute a little more than recommended on the label.
