I cant find my new kitten.

I live in a studio so it’s only me. He was hiding last night because I just adopted him and he ate and used the litter box when i woke up this morning. the problem is now i cant find him. i looked everywhere and he’s nowhere to be found. Please help i’m starting to get really worried.

Don’t panic, believe me that has happened toe several times with my adult cats. He’s still scared and since he’s still small he’ll find the tiniest places to hide. i would leave out food and once he feels a little more comfortable in his new home, he’ll come out but it could take awhile…Make sure windows are closed..
My cats have actually hidden for hours, when I call to them they don’t even meow.. But eventually they come out..Some hide when I vacuum or if someone comes over…

I agree with the above about letting the kitten come out on its own. However, you do need to make sure wherever he has managed to hide is not a danger to him. Only you know if there is nooks and crannies in your studio that he has managed to get into - so that is where to start.

If no one has entered or exited your place, the likelihood is that he has found one of these nooks. I don't know if this TCS article will offer all the possibilities, but it might help to trigger some ideas for your search. We adopted Bright Eyes when his former human, a friend, passed away. My husband was overjoyed - Bright Eyes was his cat. And the first night, after my husband had gone to bed, I needed to check something on the front porch and Bright Eyes ran out the door. I called, and Bright Eyes ignored me. I got a flashlight and searched, but had no chance - a black cat can choose any hiding place it likes in the middle of the night and be invisible. Finally I locked Jasmine in the bedroom and propped the front door open with a bowl of cat food, and then waited for Bright Eyes to get hungry.

Within 30 minutes I caught Bright Eyes sneaking into the house, past the food, heading for the litter box. He'd been a stray before my dead friend had adopted him, and he'd decided that he liked having a litter box, this thing of using the world for a litter box was no longer acceptable.

Your kitten is young; as far as he's concerned a litter box is necessary. He'll come out when he needs to use it. Don't jump on him when he does, better to react matter-of-factly. Perhaps ask if he'd like some food as well. Sometimes cats respond better to being ignored.

Get a flashlight and start looking in every place you think is too small for her to get into. One of my cats disappeared when I was getting ready to leave to a 10 day trip, and my housesitter friend wasn't coming until later that day. I spent over an hour looking for her, and even went out to the car and opened my suitcases, before I thought about the flashlight. I eventually found her -- inside the piano! Where she'd probably been the whole time.

Being anxious when you can't find a brand new scared tiny kitten IS a reason, I am so glad you found him Could you take something like a small board and block off access to that area for now until he's older?

yeah i have something i’m planning on putting in that area once i’m able to get him out of hiding. he’s still pretty nervous and there’s nothing dangerous in that area, so until he gets more comfortable i don’t wanna take away his hiding spot.

Our cat, Casper, has several hiding spots all around the house. He's not a scaredy cat, per se, but he does like to hide out in different places.

We know where most of his hiding spots are but, once in a while, he'll find a new spot where we can't find him. We'll look for him, all over, then about a half hour later, he'll come strolling out of a closet or some place we didn't expect like nothing ever happened.

Casper isn't allowed in the basement because that's where we put all the tools and household supplies that cat's shouldn't get into. Since the basement is off-limits, that's the place where he wants to go. Every once in a blue moon, he'll try to sneak down there when we aren't looking. I don't know how many times I've been in the basement when I see a little, white nose, peeking down the stairs. I just tell him, "Casper, you know you're not allowed down here!" He'll turn and go back up the stairs with that look on his face that seems to say, "Aw, you're no fun!"

One time, Casper's Girl-Human went down to do the laundry. She had an arm load of clothes and couldn't close the door behind her. Naturally, she took the stuff down then went back to close the door. Unbeknown to her, he sneaked down while her back was turned. She went back up, turned off the light and shut the door with the cat still down there.

So, about half an hour later, she's looking for the cat, all worried because she doesn't know where he is. Just then, the dryer buzzes to a stop. She opens the door to go down and get the clothes and out walks Casper, nonchalant as ever!

Yes, and ALWAYS root through your laundry basket before putting into the washing machine. That thought absolutely terrifies me..

Indy climbed in the washer once and Im glad I noticed her before turnining the machiene on. Now I keep the door closed so she can't climb in the drum. The new front loaders seem especialy inviting to cats and small children.

Something I wish I had taught my cat is clicker training to come when called. She is black with gray blotches. Peaches was only 2.5 pounds and very tiny as a kitten. Very good hider but too wild to train.

I think that's really sweet that you don't want to take away her little "safe" hiding place--- giving her that space is great but personally I take away all potential places a kitty can find and insbountiful! them with their own little cubbies-a little cat condo,cubby den or safe space that I can see & leave them be( when they're in "their" space you respect that) and you don't have to ever get freaked out ....

Kittens can really slip by unnoticed- when my Bengal Sami was but a couple of months old I went berserk when I called and he did not come running- he always responds to my call immediately and was never a hider.... I searched every corner of my house,the closets,inside furniture,name it..... I was even more freaked out when I opened the refrigerator and there he was in the bottom shelf- my God my heart sank-- so it's best to know where they are at all times!

I'm so happy you found the little squirt right away,they are such a worry-we all know the feeling

I think when you have cats, whether kittens or adults, you have to treat them like 2 year olds…they always seem to get into mischief and get into things they shouldn’t. Every morning when I get up I wonder what they did over the night.
