I went to a consignment shop that I love yesterday. I wanted to buy a carved wood picture of a tiger for DH, but to my disappointment the vendor had stopped selling there. In his place, I found a most unusual table. I do not think it is an antique. To me, it looks like someone has made one table out of three or four. It had a nice glass top, but I asked DH to remove it because I didn't want a cat related accident. Anyway, I was wondering what you all think. Is it a number of tables combined, like a DYI project? DH also put the little round things on the bottom, so it wouldn't scratch the floor.

So I don't quite know why I bought it. Pretty sure it was the lions that remind me of the door knocker at Ebenezer Scrooge's house. Just when I un-spook my house, I ghost it right back up again.

di and bob di and bob I bet you're right! I am going to run it by DH. He wants to decorate the porch for summer. Maybe I could slowly ease that table outside and talk him into the ball and claw foot table I saw. It is antique, probably solid cherry, and 60% off. Oh, and uh, spooky.

I showed the pic of your table to DH. He has been collecting, buying and selling as a hobby for years as well as appraising certain items.
Sorry but he said it looks like a hodge podge. So it sounds like your original guess is correct. Good luck convincing your hubby to buy the ball and claw foot table. :crossfingers:

MoochNNoodles MoochNNoodles great minds think alike!

neely neely I kind of thought so. The ball and claw table is definitely an antique. It's larger, though, a coffee table, and I don't know where we'd put it. He also has pottery. No face jugs, but pretty.

Your DH might find this interesting. My mom was a friend of Burlon Craig's sister, but I never got a single piece of pottery that he made. He lived in my town and would have a yard sale once a year and sell his work for ten dollars per item. I think it was so poor people such as myself could have an opportunity to own quality art. I heard he had to break up fights at those yard sales. I believe he was the Man in the world of pottery, but don't know for sure. He had a reputation as being really nice.

I'm not convinced that it's cobbled together. Does the glass you removed fit neatly under the metal sides?
I think it's fine inside or out.
Are you worried the kitties will break the glass? Without it it's going to get dust in all the engraving.

Oh my gracious, mani mani that's it! How on earth did you find it? DH put a throw pillow on top of it, thinking the cats might like to sleep on it. I saw Bob guaging his jump from the floor and deciding it wasn't a good idea. The glass is still removed. I do not like glass top tables, no offense to anyone who has one. It's because I think they are dangerous. My MIL was at a church gathering at a church member's home some years ago. A woman sat down on the glass top coffee table and it broke. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured.

My dining table has a glass top, but we had the glass top replaced with a much thicker glass and I am thinking of asking my cousin's husband who works in metal art to make a top, if I can possibly afford him.

Wait, is my weird table in Ireland?

I can't believe it was in Ireland! And that it sold! Somewhere in Ireland, someone has spooky taste, too! DH has decided to put it on the porch and leave the glass top off. He thinks the glass top is a recipe for a catastrophe! Caused by cats.

Now, the question mani mani is how did you ever find it? Do you have an app on your phone called Weird Table Identification, Inc.? 🤔 I know someone who has an app so she can identify flowers and plants. She shows it a picture a tree and to the best of my understanding it says, "That's a maple." 🍁 In your case, the app would say, "That's a weird table."

She has to pay for the plant ID app. She says it is worth it because she is really into plants. Me? I managed to kill an air plant. Make that two air plants. I didn't honestly think they were real. They weren't a long time ago. Turns out they are now and can be killed. :cringe:
