Hi, im valentine and i have a 7-8 months cat called louis. loius has been around for about 5 months and just a few months ago he has reached sexual maturity. we drove to the vet when he was 4 months old to get him nuetered but the vet inquired at due to his heart murmur it would not be possible. I went to 3 more vets as he got even older and they all suggested not nuetering him and keeping him strictly indoors. but of course, living with a tomcat is not an easy task. he sits at our garden door and cries to be let out, so sometimes when hes good i get his leash on and walk him in the garden. but even then its a pain to bring him back in and when hes in he starts crying at the door again. these behaviours are very troubling as we have lots of guests over and his behaviour worry me too much to enjoy my time. my parents are starting to get annoyed of him and are telling me to just let him free but of course that is very irresponsible and im not going to do it. some vets told me to just euthenize him because "he will be a 15 year headache" and that makes me so mad bc he means a lot to me and im sure there is another way. please give me tips if you have dealt with this. (also i cant afford any expensive medication since im in college.)i really need jackson galaxy right now😭

There are hormonal treatments that can be used.

But seriously, if it comes down to putting him outside or putting him to sleep, why not attempt to have him neutered? At least he'd have a chance of getting out of that alive.

The vets you've consulted seem very unhelpful. Maybe try calling a few more (if there are any more in the area) or ask for a referral to a specialist. If those vets are your only choice, maybe get tough with them and tell them you want them to do something, and you don't want to hear them recommend killing him.

Would distracting with a wand toy help? Catify with cubes, scratch towers vertical or square, condos, video with birds, Trixie puzzle, brushing, loungers, ripple rug. Since he's seen vets, why not call a specialist and get their opinion

It is quite a shock to know that those vets recommended your cat to be euthanized instead of looking for ways to help you out. Anyway, it is not easy living with any unneutered/unspayed cat, but as mentioned above, there can be treatments to be used. Please seek another vet advice who can provide you a much better option other than putting this cat to sleep. It is very responsible of you to still keep him indoors, and it just shows you really do care for this cat. Explain to your parents also that this is a cat undergoing a normal stage and should not be blamed for the "inconveniences" due to noises he makes.

Goodluck. You have a good heart.

As long as they know about his heart condition they would be ready for any complications that come up during neutering. I would have a thorough check-up and see if he can be neutered with the least amount of anesthesia. if not, see if you can build/buy an enclosure. for him to stay outside most of the day. Those new chicken coops are good. an unneutered cat is not only annoying, and he will most likely start spraying too, I would chance the surgery with someone who believes they can do it. do you know what 'stage' his mummur is? A 1,2,3, or 4?

I have never done this so I don't remember the name. Some people give their c at a pill before seeing a vet. Would that help calm him.

Would you be able to take him to a veterinary cardiologist for a workup? They would basically do an echocardiogram to get a better idea of what exactly his heart issues may be, and cardiologists can then make specific recommendations for anesthesia and surgery. You may have to find a board certified surgeon or at least a general practitioner who has experience working with risky anesthesia patients to do the actual neuter. I worked for a veterinary surgeon and very, very rarely were there any animals he didn't feel comfortable anesthetizing, so I would think someone with a lot of experience would be able to do it. But, I don't know the specifics of your boy's heart issue, so there could be something else going on. I would definitely try to find a cardiologist as a first step.
