For the longest time I was naturally big on style 4 and 6, but lately seem to be lingering towards 1 and 7 by chance  and a bit on the nature/location side via Meadow and Liffey, which I'll count as part of style 5.

No geology? I have Onyx and Jasper :D. And Hazel, is that a people name or a color? Cheddar, so that's #2. Zeke, that's a people name, #1. Badger, animal, #5. A few have cat names (Tabbs, Moxie, Tugger, etc.). I probably shouldn't list them all ;).

I don't think I have a style! Whatever seems right.

It’s based on the cat and what seems like a name that suits them. I named my previous cat April when I picked her up but a few weeks in realized that was way too sweet of a name for this fire cracker. So she became Murphy Brown.

I give them descriptive names, so I name them after their personality or a distinctive feature. Patch has one eye, Tortzilla's "angry voice" sounds similar to Godilla's roar, Derpcat was originally Alana but.....well, she usually has a really dopey looking expression and in general just isn't very bright.

I'm style 2 - hence Toffee and Fudge, but I like style 8 too. If I ever get black cats I'd love to name a boy Salem after the cat from Sabrina The Teenage Witch and a girl Luna after the cat in Sailor Moon, but not sure what category those would apply to - nerd culture?!

I don’t know. Mooch and Noodles were names for the comic strip Mutts. Can that count as Literature?

My cats growing up were all named for the holiday they were born around. My first cat was Tinsel; officially Christmas Tinsel. Glory was officially Morning Glory; after sparklers we got at camp for summer holidays. She was born around Memorial Day.

I dont really know either..most of my cats were named the instant I saw them from their coloring or what they would do..name just come to my head except for Blue
BUMPH was the weirdest name of a foster kitten I had and that was based on a prelanding checklist for a light plane.
This kitten used to spend most if his time in flight but never got the landings right..

My absolute favorite is Style 1, real names like Demi & Maggie
I also like Style 2- food and drink, I would name a cat Cinnamon or Coffee, or after a wine/beer like Merlot, Malbec, Guinness.

Let's see....I have or have had a George, a Chicken, a Peach, a Marley, a Freya and a Heidi. So that's 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 covered.

How come there's no category for random household objects? Where would my Carpet and Button go?

Our cats have always told us their names. It may take a while for us to understand what they want to be called, but we manage. Except for Muffin who was originally Mom's cat and she named her.
