I'm trying to determine what is a normal frequency amount, and to alleviate some of my anxiety about my cat any and all answers will be appreciate.

My cat goes 3-4 times a day sometimes 5 times if I add too much water to his food and I often do bc I'm bad at measurements

He has had two urinary obstructions 3 years ago so I'm just trying to avoid that again.

Every other day the box is fuller. There is a litter called pretty litter I think that will change color if a cat has a urinary problem. It is good that your cat is using the litter box because when my cat had UTI she drank tons of water and did not use the litterbox

3 - 4 times a day is pretty normal when you have water added to the wet food. It's just like us hooman, we drink more, we pee more.
Some cats pee smaller clumps and therefore and up peeing more times a day. Some cats pee more and bigger clumps and thus pee less times a day.

As long as your kitty is on wet food, and if you want to add additional water, that is fine. The kitty must be kept hydrated.

Additional thing to note is make sure your kitty is not diabetic. Excessive thirst and pee is a sign of diabetes. If a cat has low water intake, their pee have a strong ammonia smell and if it smells sweet, could be a sign of diabetes. Smelling their pee is one way to gauge their health.

My boy is strictly on wet food and he pees big clumps twice a day and if he pees smaller clumps, I'll get 3 clumps day. So if your kitty is normal with no apparent health issues and with much water added to his wet food, 3 - 4 times is normal. Just make sure he finishes his food with all that water added if not he may not get enough nutrients from the food as the nutrients are dissolved in the water.

My research suggested that 1-2 times a day is normal for an average cat. However, if a kitty is on a special urinary diet (like Royal Canine SO) they will pee more frequently.

Has he increased his number of pees?

Size is just as important to note as frequency. We used to keep a notepad by the trashcan so right after we cleaned the boxes, we would write down notes about what we cleaned up! It really helped us and our vet keep track of our Yoda's urinary issues.

Lily has been peeing once a day until recently. She has started to drink more and has begun to pee a second time. Iris and Mocha pee 3-4 times a day.

Yes the note pad is a good idea

He had peed 5 times yesterday and it freaked me out. Yesterday I also added 1/2 cup to his food so he may have been getting too much water

Today I noticed he peed less (3 times) and less volume as I only added 1/4 to the wet food.

One of mine has had a couple of UTI's so now I keep a diary noting the times and he tends to go 2/3 times a day. Without the daily diary I wouldnt have a clue.

My understanding is frequency and volume comparison should be made to the individual cat's own usual after getting confirmed there was no problem with his usual. Like if the cat pees X amount of volume and the check-up didn't show anything abnormal during those days, if the volume gets increased or decreased later without an explanation, then an exam is advised.

My Hima occasionally pees only twice a day (there have been "once a day" days) but it's because she holds -- she never got use to her litter boxes and still uses the yard. If she doesn't want to go out, she holds as long as she can then pees in large amount.

She pees more often than 3 times a day sometimes, especially in the summer when she's right near her litterbox the yard's soil, but then the volume is smaller. If I managed to put more water in her, volume increases accordingly.
