Hi. I have been feeding a stray for a few weeks. My question is I was wondering how late cats can have kittens in my area (Zone 4b)? I’m always afraid of trapping a mom-cat (I can’t see any signs of nipples on this cat, but I haven’t gotten that close) or not trapping a pregnant cat before it has kittens.

Thanks!

Cats can have kittens year-round in warm climates like Florida, where I live, and a late fall mating can result in winter kittens in upstate New York. If the stray IS pregnant, it would be healthier and safer if she is trapped now and can give birth indoors at a shelter or with a foster. Tiny kittens can freeze to death outside in the cold climate. Keep us posted!
