SHE’S HOME! After nearly two months and no sightings for the bulk of it, she triggered the trap. She’s currently upstairs with Mom, having the happiest reunion of all.

Thanks to everyone for their support and advice! You guys are the best!

I just found this thread by accident and was reading it with so much fear. It brings me so much relief to know that she's home now and safe and sound. I hope you, your pets, and your mother are all doing better. Sending my love!

I'm so scared Storm will get curious and try to run out the door as she gets more confident. Especially after we lost our puppy to a reckless driver in the alley right behind our house, I'm petrified of Storm getting out. But, I at least learned about the scent dog networks reading this thread! Hopefully I'll never need that info, but it's something else to keep in the back of my head should I ever need it.

Edit: Sorry for the ping, Kwik, accidentally quoted your quoted post.

Oh no problem- I'm glad you did or I mightve missed your reply... figured out something to "door dash" proof your entrance way if possible- it's worth whatever it takes to have the Peace of mind.

I was always worried, for years before having a hallway with a double door made ....so nice to not have to think about " what if"..... ❤

Glad to clue you in on a valuable resource. I’m considering training my next dog in scent work for missing pets just because of this ordeal.

The crazy thing with my cats is that none of them rush the door or anything, but when the window came loose, it’s like they went feral! One thing I did learn, though, is that cats respond to being lost very differently than dogs. Dogs run and cover long distances very quickly but cats tend not to stray very far unless they get displaced via hiding in a car or something. Even though I couldn’t see her, Beatrice likely never went too far away.

I'm so glad for your" happily ever after" in this story- I still feel bad for all the worry and hurt both you and your Mom went through all that time

A friend of mine called me last week crying because her sweet little cat she cuddles every night before bed got out and has gone missing.Only I just found out she allows her cats to go outside if they want & has done this for 8 yrs- every morning the little girl is on the porch waiting to come inside....that part( letting them out) she never told me but had to when I asked " How did Tiki get out"?

My heart breaks for her yet inside I'm thinking it should come as no surprise..... so many things can happen out there in the world - the moral of these stories are that they do not always end in " happily ever after" no matter if they are very nearby or have strayed many miles away- thank God Beatrice is home and unharmed

I love that you desire to help others that might find themselves in the position you were in,my friend has 13 acres so it would be a good idea for her to inquire about finding a tracking dog to help look for her cat- even so,then what? I fear she'd still let them out- she says she doesn't want them to live in a prison....I'm speechless🥲Polar opposite of you my friend,I'd not be surprised if you nailed your windows shut- lol

I mean ,would a parent let their 5 yr old child out unsupervised whenever they wanted to go outside? And no,I've not said a word of this to my friend because I would not add to her hurt and be so unkind but I did mention she please not let her other cat out anymore

Thank you for not giving up and for being a responsible pet parent❤

A lot of people don’t realize the dangers of cats that have free access to the outdoors.

If your friend’s kitty is still missing, I recommend contacting Feline Finders. If you’ve got scent dogs around, use them! However, if you’re friend can’t get them, please go with a pet detective.

Problem is she lives in a very remote area on 13 acres near Quebec ,Canada I've found several trackers for her to contact and some in Canada thst volunteer but it's up to her to speak with them and find out if they'll come out that way

Unfortunately it's very hard to encourage this particular friend, she's always in a very negative state of mind -,no matter what I suggest she'll spend 2,hours telling me all the reasons " that won't work" or " I can't because" ....it's hard to try to be helpful when they ask for your help but seem to not really want it- kwim?😔

I totally get it. That’s how Mom is, which is why I did it myself. Tell her there’s nothing to lose just by asking. Get in contact with people and if they say it won’t work, then the worst is that your friend can say she told you so.

However, does she really want to live knowing there was a possibility of getting her cat back and that she didn’t take it because of her own pessimism? I can’t do those what-if games in my head, so I exhaust every option.

I know ,I'm just like you - Never and CANNOT are not really part of my vocabulary,it's not what's in my heart so it can't fall out of my mouth or reach my head!!!!!❤

I've already said to her exactly what you just said, lol - several times, just keep leading the horse to water I guess.....
