Unfortunately most places don't actually take animal theft seriously. Police often just state to go to court.
I've been in South Florida so long now I forget these things in MOST places - glad it's still "behind " the times here where giving your word & a handshake is considered a "legal" agreement and a persons "animal " means more than " property"......though I can see a new breed of peace officers on the rise(my small City still has some of the old timers in high places) .... It's very sad

The police got back to me. I was being trolled by a kid.

A stray is hanging around now, showing up each night to eat the food I put out for my cat.

Still no sign after a month. The pet detective says not to worry, but it’s so hard. Sometimes I wish I were dead.

Hoping she shows up soon. No clue what she’s eating, but I won’t let myself think something has happened to her.

I'm so sorry a kid was trolling you, I do hope they get dealt with :alright:

I hope she comes back soon, she knows you love her :alright:

I know it's hard, but please don't give up. One of my cats was out in the woods for two months, but she came back home when she was ready. Cats are very resilient and they're very efficient hunters. She'll be able to feed herself.

:hugs:

Thanks. I’m worried about wildlife, other people deciding they’d be better pet parents and taking her, that she died in a tree or garage, etc. It’s driving me nuts that I haven’t had sightings.

I know, that can be normal, especially in rural areas. Still, I just want her home. I couldn’t cope anymore if something happened to her.

Finally, some good news! The trail camera finally caught her, so now we know I can place the trap in a place where it doesn’t feel random.
Is the trail cam close to the house? How does she look?

This is such good news, what time did she come by?

It’s right outside the garage. She looks great! I set the trigger for real tonight, but it’s the one night she decided not to come and eat. It rained all day, though, so that’s probably why.

So then it is HER who's been eating the food!Wow,this is really good news.....I can guess you'll be pulling some all nighters then, huh?

How's your Mom? Is she feeling a bit better knowing you've seen her ?

She’s been feeling great. Upset that she was a no-show tonight, but I’m hopeful that she’ll be back soon. She’s been eating in this location all week.
Oh good,I'm glad she's encouraged again ..... I'm really hoping she'll be back in the house very very soon, praying❤

Thanks! We were betting on tonight, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit. That part crushed Mom (she seems to believe the universe is conspiring against her), but I’m sure it was the dampness keeping her away tonight. She’ll be back for her food, and from where I am, we still have a couple hours of darkness left so she might get hungry enough to eat anyway. When we last caught her on camera, she came at midnight and 3:30AM.

If she doesn’t, I’m blaming crappy weather. Supposed to be nicer now.

I went out just now and she’s eaten but the trap didn’t trigger. She must have leaned over the trigger plate to eat. I have another trap where the plate doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb, so maybe I’ll swap it out.

I’ll ask the detective if that’s a good idea first.

I am joining late but very much feel your pain. My oldest is a half feral cat that used to escape whenever she could. Her mom was feral and was trapped while pregnant. The kittens were socialized when born but were not house cats by any means.
Try putting her litter box outside when the rain is done. I know it's been a while but if you still have some used litter that would be better. She got used to going in litter and might go back to the box instead of whatever she is doing now. Used litter will also have a familiar smell to her and draw her in. This will also tell you if it's a cat hanging around, as other animals won't use the box.
We also enticed our oldest back with treats. I know you have been using food bait, but is there a cat treat she likes? Or a people food she thinks is worth investigating your plate for?
You might try that in the traps instead/with the food bait.
I am hoping you get her back soon. I can't imagine what you and your mom are going through. It's a good sign she is still around your property.

The suspense is crazy! It’s starting to get dark now, so we’ll see what happens tonight. We made the decision not to set the camera up tonight because she seems so bothered by it and we want to make sure she’s comfortable.
