D DungeonMaster How do your own dogs get along with the missing cat? If they aren't likely to chase her if they see her, I'd start by taking your own dogs out on a leash and see if they can find her.

Don't pay $3,000! That's a ridiculous price.
I can’t afford it anyway. My own dogs just ignore her and they’re around 17 years-old, so they don’t have the energy for a hunt like that.

Have you asked your local police dept if they have any K9 handlers that do volunteer work? 2yrs ago a friend's cat slipped out somehow so we took a ride over to talk with a local sheriff dept K9 supevisor.... not 1 but 3 police officers volunteered to try to help! All 3 dogs picked up her scent all the way to the dock and stopped there- we thought" uh oh- gator? Fell in the canal?"

A lady who lived by the end of the dock asked " whst are you all looking for?"She had the cat in her house for 2weeks! Funny, the lady picked the cat up and carried her to the house so the scent ended right where the dogs brought us all
How far away was the dock from the point of escape?

From her house which is south of me -I'm at the north end of the City ,probably about half a mile( my city is approx 1600 acres )she seemed to be circling circling circling..... most time was spent in my friends yard and the next door neighbors yard ( looked like we were going to go nowhere for quite awhile) then one dog excitedly started heading out- the other 2dogs took longer to leave hanging around a tree( I imagine she went up the tree and jumped down onto the boat in that yard)- first dog was walking in a pretty straight line headed north all along the hedges by the main sidewalk until the fixed bridge, then went to the docks( maybe smelled fish?).....

When the other officers and dogs caught up they all sat on the dock, crying and whining- their search ended there

The dog that was actually " tracking" had found missing children, quite a few pets they say and he was retired from the police force because he was injured on the job and blind- his handler adopted him and they did( still do) alot of volunteer work

I am assuming that nothing has changed with your situation.:(

The man in my general area who hired the bloodhounds posted detailed pictures and maps on Nextdoor. There were four bloodhounds in the pack and they were able to follow the scent to the cemetery which is near his house. They went cold after that and the cat was not found by the dogs. He is asking the cemetery if he may post signs, although I don't know what the answer will be.

Nothing new yet. I think it's safe to say that my cat isn't in the area. Our police won't let us use their scent dogs to find pets, so that's a no-go. Our police aren't too friendly, though.

The pet detective I'm working with remotely says not to give up, though. We just have to keep moving cameras around until we see her, but, like I said, I doubt she's in the area. Feeding stations haven't been touched.

However, I got a message that she may have been seen about 1/2 mile way. I talked to the people who lived there and one said she saw a cat that looked like her, but she thought she had kittens and my cat has been spayed. Apparently, there are a few strays that roam that area, so maybe she's just hanging out with kittens. A guy there who says he feeds them (but said he hasn't seen her) said he'd keep an eye out.

I got another message saying they saw a cat kind of like her about five miles away. I have no vehicle, though, so I haven't managed to get all the way over there yet. My truck fell apart from rust and I can't afford to replace it right now.

I don't think that the bloodhounds did much for the man in LA. Given his location, the cemetery would have been a logical place to look even without any dogs, so I was not impressed.

We have had people get cats back after sightings further away from the home. Keep following up with any lead.

I wish I had my truck so I could more easily get to the place five miles out. I may have to try riding my bike out there. I really hope she’s closer.

Left some tuna cans with neighbors today, asking them to put some in their buildings to rule out for sure that she isn’t trapped (probably too late) because I don’t quite trust people.

There are so many people whose garages have no doors at all around here, I can’t imagine she’d get into one that people actually close, though.

Sick to my stomach and have managed to lose about seven pounds because I can’t eat.

Well, we had a crazy past few days. Mom’s blood pressure went up and she had a seizure. Spent the Fourth in the ER.

The next day I got a text from someone saying they had my cat in their yard, but it was the wrong color so I dismissed it initially.

However, today I had a disturbing exchange:

I’ll just transcribe the entire conversation:

Person: Hi I have your cat at my house

Me: Do you have a picture?

Me: I couldn’t answer the FaceTime because of all the noise

Person: No but she is my yard she has white paws and is black

Me: My cat is gray and white, not black

Person: Oh okay sorry for the confusion

Me: That’s okay. Mee your eyes peeled. Out of curiosity, where are you?

Person: My house is

(I sent a photo)

Me: Thanks. Here’s another picture of her.

Me: Let me know if you see her.

The Next Day:

Me: If you see that cat again, please take a picture. Depending on the light, maybe a gray cat can look black

Person: No I’m keeping her

Me: So you’re sure it was black if you have her?

Me: ?

Person: I do have her

Person: But I’m keeping her

Me: Okay, and she’s definitely black?

Person: Just stop bc you ain’t getting her back

Me: If it’s my cat, then she should come home to me

Me: Is it gray and white?

Me: That’s all I want to know. Or please send a picture

Person: No

Person: I’m going to block you now okay

Me: If you really have her that’s theft

Person: I don’t care

Person: And also it is not theft since it came to my yard

I called the cops, but they said they wouldn’t read too much into it and to just block the number. I’m sure they’re right, but I’m thinking of trying again tomorrow and just asking them if they’ll check for me.

If this is a joke, it’s a sick joke to play, especially right after my Mom got out of ER, probably at triggered, at least partly, by her cat going missing.

I need advice. This is seriously feeling like the Twilight Zone, even though I’m sure someone is trying to get a rise out of me. I did a reverse phone lookup and it was traced to an elderly gentleman who lives about a mile away.

It sounds as if the person who called you was trolling you or maybe has mental health issues. I wouldn't bother calling them back, but if you know where the house is you could go over there and see if your cat is in that area. First thing in the morning or just after sunset are the best times to look.

Best wishes for your mum, I hope she's feeling better soon.

That is theft and it's taken quite seriously by the authorities ( cats are " property " according to the Law in USA)

Call the police if you have the location- I once had a cat stolen, the man was arrested ,fined and I had my cat returned to me..... long story, this person was cat sitting at THEIR house!

I seriously doubt they have your cat and they are probably just a demented sicko but stranger things have happened

I'm so sorry your Mom is not well,I am praying for her

Thanks. The police didn’t think much of it, and I’m inclined to think someone is just being sick, but I’d still like them to follow up. It may not do much, but it might teach someone that this isn’t an okay thing to do.

Thanks for praying for Mom. Hopefully, we’ll get her kitty home soon!

Well,I'm very unimpressed with police lately becsuse honestly there is nothing for them to " think " about because it's their job enforce the law -if an allegation is made that some one has committed a crime then they need to write a police report ,pass it on to the Detectives who will in turn investigate

I'm personally sick of police telling me what they think, they need to act to start the process.....I had an officer tell me " well I think they didn't have bad intentions and thought such n such" when someone stole my rollator!!!

I marched right down to the police station and raised the roof- told them who I suspected and doesn't matter WHY they took it because it's gone and its a crime....my suspicion was correct and the officer was reprimanded

I encourage you to push the police if you thibk it's possible this person has your cat- you have evidence if they do and it is a lead for them to follow so I agree with you 100%.... if it was a missing child and a sick joke they'd have a different train of thought, wouldn't they?

Unfortunately most places don't actually take animal theft seriously. Police often just state to go to court.
