Or Asafoetida

Apparently this is supposed to be a decent garlic/onion replacement seasoning.
I have friends who are allergic to both, so was looking for something I could use in my dishes (I tend to use a lot of garlic in my cooking).
Specifically, I was going to make some goulash, but can’t use the traditional fresh onions and garlic, which will naturally have an effect on the flavor.

Also thinking about other dishes; chili, pasta sauce, cheesy scalloped potatoes, curry, etc.,.

Has anyone else used this ingredient?

I’m sure your chili is tasty. 😋

But I really need to know it anyone has actually used this spice ingredient, and if it blends with other spices as garlic/onions would.

I did find some at an Indian market. I’d been to the market a few years ago. It’s a great spot with hundreds of spices. As I wandered the aisles I kept thinking, “Why do I not come here more often?!”

It comes both in “rock” and ground forms. I got the ground, though haven’t tried it yet.
