If the last picture a relative or just a different cat? To me looks like a color pointed domestic long hair. The second cat a snowshoe.

Gorgeous cats both of them 😻 Most likely dsh snow shoe type seal point, and dlh seal lynx point. The longhair does look similar to either neva masquerade or rag dolls or other longhair cp cats I have seen… but less floofy 😀

The last picture is my other cat Socks and the one I’m curious about the breed is beside him. The previous owners said they will try and get in contact with the people they bought him from but haven’t heard anything and they said they just remember something about ‘blue point’ i don’t know the previous owners so I have no way to reach out to them! My vet said he couldn’t even tell me bc he wasn’t sure.

Thank you he’s still young and I’m not sure how he was taken care of with his previous owners.

Aww thank you I can definitely say he is a sweetheart compared to my Siamese mix it’s crazy to see how different their personalities can be. My younger one is the protector if any other cats some around and my siamese mix is just like “ahh whatever”😂

Neva masquerade?? Without papers it will be a somewhat look alike
I do see similar things with a Neva Masquerade, my phone sends me to that and Siberian when I look it up by a picture of him and they say they aren’t fully grown until 3-5 years old but idk if he was treated good or not with his other owners but he’s a sweetheart compared to my other cat!

Yes, a pointed Siberian would be the alternative. Especielly as I see modern siberians tend to be somewhat smaller and dock-alike...

The problem is, although in West we accept pointed siberians, in Russia, their mother country; they do not. But instead they created the Neva Masquerade, and IF it happens a pointed siberian is born, they not longer get rid of the kitten, but nowadays they can register it as Neva Masquerade... Ps. Neva reminds fo Nova, ie New. but its really after the Neva river, flowing through St Petersburg... So, a play with words, sort off.

Not sure where you got your information from but this is not the case. Point was always part of the breed here in Russia. In fact, the main two international registries in the country consider them the same breed. It’s the west that’s strict with Neva and Siberians crossing, to the point that some breeders are obsessed with only breeding Siberians that are at least 5 generations clear from a Neva, because, according to them, Neva aren’t “real Siberians”.

Many people that breed them locally use the term pointed Siberian over Neva, even 🤷🏻

You are from Russia, and know everything about russian breeders of Sibirians and points? cool.

I dont remember where I got my info, but at that time, I didnt had any reason to distrust this.
Perhaps because we had a similiar problem with our Russian Blue... The pointed gene, although existing after blue siameses were crossed in about 1950, wasnt wished for, and known point carriers werent no longer used in the breeding.
But the tide turned: we realized it doesnt pay to hunt for the non dangerous point gene, while there are other genes we must hunt.

It seems I will need to relook at this matter. :)

I thought neva was started in the 70’s and siberians were un pointed until then. I am going to ask the lady that heads the page of Siberian cat owners that I belong to. She has been breeding them for many, many years. She’s American and her husband is Russian. She traveled to Russia to get her first breeding cats there. I think she breeds pointed and non pointed, but in any case, there are a lot of people there who have gorgeous pointed Siberians.

Not sure when or why it became trendy for breeders to focus only on “traditional” Siberian colours when a founder of the breed was a colourpoint cat 🤔 he’s widely present in a lot of pedigrees if you look far back enough. There are definitely breeders that focus on non-pointed cats here, but I only know of one that actively avoids pointed cats in her recent lineages (not to say there aren’t more, but they’re not super common ime)

The first founding cat of the breed was a Siberian cat Roman (born in 1987), belonging to the club "Kotofei".

Another founder of the breed, the cat Mars (born in 1988), blue-tabby-point with white, also belonged to this club. Mars, as well as his son Nestor, blue with white color, are found in most pedigrees. Other founders of the breed came out of "Kotofei", which were later used in new felinology clubs. The "Gel" kennel is based on the Nestor line. Thanks to Nestor's line and Roman's line the cattery "Marcellus" was founded (further passed to the lines of Virgil and Lucretius).

additionally this is a very interesting transcript on breeders discussing the point gene in Siberians back in 2001, though it’s long, so I won’t be translating it here. You can copy it over into DeepL or Google if interested :)

Thanks 😀 I don’t speak or read Russian although some of my relatives came from that area long ago lol but I guess I can try the translation.

* unfortunately I could not get that first page to translate on Google translate. First of all it only does 5000 characters but when I added it in, it’s still keeping some of the Russian and it keeps talking about snowflakes and crazy stuff. 😹
