So this is about my parents' cat, Toby. He's 17, and they just can't really get him to eat. He's lost a lot of weight. He seems to be nauseous and without appetite, but no one knows why. He's had x-rays, bloodwork, and everything has come back normal. Mirataz used to stimulate his appetite, but now doesn't seem to be working because his nausea overpowers it. He's taking Cerenia and Pepcid and it helps a bit, but not always. It seems to help less and less each time. He is drinking plenty of water. He's gotten constipated a couple of times.

So basically, Toby is going to die if he doesn't start eating, but we don't know what's causing the nausea/stopping him from eating. Has anyone had these issues before? We're really desperate. The vet said maybe IBS, but this seems so extreme. Otherwise, he's in really great shape, including his kidneys.

The vet can put a feeding tube in so you can get liquid food /soupy canned food into the cat. The cat must get calories one way or another.

The vet can consult with a vet school to get more ideas on what might be wrong.

Have you tried meat based baby food in a jar such as chicken ? Make sure it has no onion or garlic added to it

Thanks for the feedback. Toby is so old that they don't think a feeding tube is a great idea for him. Our vet is trying... Hopefully something works.

He will go for baby food sometimes, but as with most food he just doesn't seem to have appetite. He's been eating better the last day, but this has been going on so long he will likely not be eating well tomorrow.

Try some boiled chicken, tuna,
Deli meat/ turkey

also grab some delectables brand lickable treats, the bisque/stews

or some fancy feast broths packets.
The squeeze ups are also great, my low appetite kitty always goes for those.
Theres delectables brand, Churu brand and Chewy- all on amazon too !
