Bj seems to feel a little less energetic today. He actually coughed a couple of times. The vet said that if he continues or does it for long spells, I should bring him back in. Hoping it was just a hair. His girl Mitsy came to check on him immediately. It was really sweet.

BJ didn’t cough anymore today so I’m just watching him for now. He did perk up this evening and ate very well at supper time. Thank goodness. I’ll be watching him closely tomorrow. I don’t know if his heartworm medicine could be working to kill any parasites present. A breakdown of any larger worms could present some inflammation or leave bits of dead worms to travel through his system.

He’s relaxing.....

Love you BJ! I think he’s smiling! :)

sidneykitty sidneykitty Thank you. He has a huge heart so maybe that will carry him
through. His spirit is bright and loving.

I hope this will be a reminder to everyone. Most of us are used to hearing about heartworms in dogs but few realize that it effects cats too. I’m going to hold out on hope for him to get through it.

Why did the vet tip his ear if you weren't releasing him back outside?
BJ got fixed in a county program hat requires it. That’s in case he ever gets out or was used as a barn cat. It indicates fixing and also that the cat may belong to someone rather than just the typical message it carries. Every county, city, town and state is different. There are Barn cats here in great numbers that belong somewhere. They aren’t strays and animal control does not need to pick them up unless they are causing a problem somehow or sick. Of course BJ is strictly an indoors kitty so that should not be an issue.

Perhaps this is like pneumonia where you don't get better until you start coughing to get the stuff out of your lungs.
We’ll hope so. I thank you and everyone else for the good wishes for BJ. He’s a special boy. :petcat:

BJ is feeling great tonight. He’s playing more than I’ve ever seen! In fact, he was running around so much I had a hard time getting good photos of him. It’s just been a very good night for him tonight!
I got lots of affection....

This is all blur but his expression was priceless so I included it.

Even when I picked him up he couldn’t hold still and went straight for a head against head rub! Look at that lovely fur belly! He looks a lot like a big teddy bear here. It’s a great BJ night!

This is the first I have read about BJ. He is already special because his name is my initials. He is a beautiful boy.

I am going to tell you my story about a cat with heartworms. Some may question what I am going to say, but it is a true story that happened to me.

She was the first indoor cat we ever had. She got sick and I took her to the vet. He came out and told me she had heartworms. He was not far out of vet school and didn't know what the treatment was. He told me bring her back tomorrow for further testing and he was going to talk to the vet school overnight. I cried all the way home. When I got home, I got on my knees beside the bed and prayed to God for healing for my cat. The next day, I took her to the vet again. They carried her in another room for further testing and I waited. The vet came back scratching his head. He told me he knew what he had seen before and he didn't understand what had happened. He said my cat was fine, no heartworms and to take her home. I was overjoyed. She lived many more years and never exhibited any heartworm symptoms or problems. When she died, we waited about a month or two before we got another cat. We had medical records for the new cat so it was a while before he needed medical attention. On my first trip back to the same office, but a different vet, I made mention of my cat with heartworms. He said that could not have happened. I asked him to see if they still had my old records and they did. When he found the chart, the original vet had noted what had happened and called it a miracle.

Therefore know, I have already prayed for BJ.
