My boy Timmy (16yr old ginger tom) has been diagnosed with advanced heart disease with congestive heart failure. I’ve paid for a specialist cardiologist who’s told me it’s end stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He’s currently on
Fortekor Plus 1.25/2.5mg half a tablet twice daily and....
Dimazon diuretic injection 3times daily

Anybody else got any experience or advice with the heartbreaking situation I’m In ☹ Xxxx

Hugo has early stage mild HCM so I can't be much help. He's 8 now. I try not to worry because the vet says it could be possible for cats to live many years with HCM. I think when CHF sets in the prognosis becomes poorer but depending on how well meds work they can do well on treatment for a little while. It's always a "wait and see" sort of game.

Sorry to hear about the bad news =(

duckpond duckpond Thankyou so much that means so much to me. I’m literally doing everything for him, I’m astonished the amount of negativity and comments I’ve got off so called friends about the financial side of it... I don’t care I will financially support his life even if it kills me he is my Furbaby and I would never give up on him.... so Thankyou truely duckpond duckpond that means so much to us. Xxxx

I am so sorry you have had the negativity on top of the worry about Timmy!

Some just do not understand i guess. He is your baby, dont worry about what anyone says. Do what you feel is right in your heart for him, and yourself. Love is what matters. Love does not know boundaries. :heartshape:

I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers, and please do keep us updated, both on Timmy and yourself. You guys are ours now, and we worry right along with you.

We are currently doing an echo every year-18 months and no meds have been needed yet. Hugo's fur is still shaved from the last one, poor thing looks ridiculous. The cardiac ultrasounds themselves are like upwards of 600 though alone so I feel your pain on the financial scale. My boy also has other issues. I hope the injectable meds are working better for your kitty. Be sure to give him lots of treats for us.

Does he show you emotions still? My Timmy is angry and dislikes me as I give him medical which he hates but it’s to keep him alive XXxx

Your kitty is very lucky. You have already done more than most! My kitty is doing well. The heart disease is being monitored, he has no ill effects of it currently. We just know that it's lurking. He also has asthma though, which causes some coughing and sometimes he has to go on steroids. He's missing most of his teeth now due to dental disease, and he had a bad case of gastritis that took us to the emergency vet in winter, but hopefully that was just a 1 time illness. He has a healthy brother and they are happy and play together. It's storming today so he is hiding under the couch. Both of my cats really hate getting medicine, normally I have to have the vet give us liquid and not pills, as that is easier. I notice they are a lot faster to forgive if i have treats for right afterwards, or I play with them or give catnip. Timmy will forgive you too. Even though they hate it I think they might have a *tiny* bit of understanding it's doing them some good when they are feeling better.

~ If kitty is sick heart failure is one of the least to cause suffering . Tiredness , weakness , etc . No real pain if on medication and diuretic . ( which you are doing )
Sending you good wishes ...
