My first thought is find a new doctor, as others have mentioned.
:yeah: I couldn't agree more.

Since you mentioned having a previous DVT, do you have a neurologist? You also said you are pre-diabetic, do you see an endocrinologist? Perhaps having a knowledgeable and caring Internist is a good place to start. Although it's okay to read reviews online as you did with your gynecologist, it's not okay to trust them 100%. An experienced and insightful Internist should be able to refer you to a good specialist whether a gynecologist, neurologist, endocrinologist, etc. And if they are all at the same hospital it's easier for them to review your records, test results and medical history.

You're so lucky to have a free gym at your neighborhood association as well as the new job. If either of them have a personal trainer to work with that would be especially helpful. If not, start with what you are comfortable doing. I've found from personal experience that when you exercise your endorphins kick in and you will want to continue with some type of regular program.

I also struggle with finding meals that are filling without making me crave snacks.
You may want to try eating more small meals every few hours to avoid craving snacks. I find my worst time of day is around 4:00 p.m. when I start to get hungry but it's too early for dinner. One thing that helped me was eating a piece of fruit, carrots & hummus or nuts.

As @sivyaleah suggested, "one thing will follow the other, don't make too many changes at once." I have full confidence that once you feel better and become more comfortable in your new job you will be able to start a regular exercise routine and healthy diet. All my best, hope you get your energy back soon and keep the excess bleeding under control. :crossfingers:

I used to have hellacious periods. It all went back to thyroid problems. Have yours checked, not just the single test, but the panel that tests all aspects of your thyroid function. You might find an answer. I did.
I was going to post the same thing - about getting your thyroid checked. I understand you have PCOS, but I have had several clients (over my 15 years in physical therapy) who also had PCOS and a couple of them also required thyroid support. You never know, it might be the kicker that gives your body the boost it needs to really get down to business.

Having the motivation to do something you need to is NOT easy. But if you can find that ONE thing you can stick to, and slowly build on it, eventually you will have completely changed your lifestyle and be the healthiest you can.

One thing, that might sound counter-intuitive, is to change your perception on your goal. The ultimate goal is to become healthy, eat right, lose weight. NOT an easy thing to do, especially if your self worth and self esteem are low. You get stuck in a cycle filled with guilt that just builds on your already low view of yourself. And as much as it is important to try and work on self esteem, sometimes, we just don't have the motivation to do better for our OWN health, even though we know we have to. It's sad, but very common. Sometimes though, if you change your motivation/goal, if you don't make it about yourself, it can help bring yourself out of a slump to give you the boost you need to get going.
For example:
If fast food, while out, is your downfall. What if you change your perception on this type of food. Make it a monetary thing (everyone loves money!). Do you have a wish list that needs some extra savings to accomplish?
What if you only ever carry the $$ you need to accomplish your errand? If you don't have the extra funds on you, you can't get the food.
Track your spending (or savings, actually:yess:). The joy you feel as your $ goal continues to grow can give you self esteem a boost because you'e accomplished a tangible thing, you can SEE it. Not only that but, the "fallout" of this money growing is also that you've stopped eating fast food! So now you're excited about your money, but then, you notice your pants are baggy, BONUS!

That was just an example, but what I'm trying to convey is that sometimes, if your own health is not enough of a motivation, find something that is. Find something that is important to you, that you know you will sacrifice for. Then, it can morph into taking better care of yourself.
Does this make sense? I'm I explaining myself???

I thought I had more books on the list than I actually do, but here are a few I'd recommend:
Secrets From the Eating Lab by Traci Mann
You Have the Right To Remain Fat by Virgie Tovar
End Emotional Eating by Jennifer Taitz (more focused on disordered eating, which I don't know if you suffer from or not)
Intuitive Eating Workbook by Evelyn Tribole

I'm so sorry you are having such troubles!

My first thought is find a new doctor, as others have mentioned. Perhaps join a PCOS group and ask around to find one that is female friendly and that takes the syndrome seriously.
One thing will follow the other; don't make too many changes at once. Start small.
thank you! i've been putting pressure that i have to change fast and its been overwhelming to me. i woke up feeling much better today. but i was stuck watching my great nephew, so the cramps and bleeding increased. i have posted about my issues in PCOS forums and no one really responds. lol probably weirded out to hear of someone with a period for two years. but i will keep looking for support groups.

i am going to be resting all weekend. so hopefully things improve.

That's one of many reasons why I loathe the "health insurance" racket and the 15-minutes-if-you're-really-lucky appointment you are "lucky" to get after wasting a lot of your precious time calling/being on the internet.
yes, i know exactly what you mean. i've been on these 15 minute visits with no answers. i got lucky this year with a gastroenterologist. She has been a huge blessing to me. I have had this crazy issue with my throat where it would feel like food was getting stuck. I would have to force myself to vomit. My mom always thought i wasnt properly chewing my food.

finally went to a gastro.... turns out i have severe allergy in my throat. started eliminating common allergens. the issue went away as soon as i cut out nuts. no issues for months now!:fuming:

i had a severe food allergy and didnt even know. i used to love eating almo, i would eat them constantly... and would have the choking episodes all the time. this is why i truly believe there is SOMETHING that is causing this menstrual issue in my body. i just need to figure out what it is.

But, you must be certain you don't want to get pregnant because it may take a year to reverse. At your age, you may not want to get pregnant anyway. I had my son when I was 35 and it wasn't good. I love my son, but the pregnancy almost killed me.
i know im older, and shouldnt want kids. im so painfully shy that i havent had luck in the love department. But as the only one in 5 siblings without kids, i have dedicated so much of my time to my nieces and nephews. I love kids, and havent given up hope of one days having my own child.

My mom had her final child (me) at 37 years old, and then closed up shop. lol i'm giving myself until 40, if i dont have children im thinking about just getting the procedure to have my tubes tied.

I used to have hellacious periods. It all went back to thyroid problems. Have yours checked, not just the single test, but the panel that tests all aspects of your thyroid function. You might find an answer. I did.
ok, i will look into that. thank you! i have never had it checked before.

I'm very sorry about all this.
I was told to clean up my diet a bit a few years ago, and the doctor told me to not worry about not eating the junk foods I like, but just to add good foods to them.
It helps your taste buds learn to like new foods without feeling deprived which I feel is almost instant failure if you get too strict with yourself too quickly.
Can you make yourself a list of good, healthy foods you like and decide how to incorporate that into your diet?
thats really good advice, thank you! i used to at least make myself healthy meals, but i kind of gave up when my work schedule become so crazy. so there are healthy foods i like. just need to give myself a kick in the butt to get back into the habit of making healthier choices.

:yeah: I couldn't agree more.

since ive had front desk jobs, i have had to learn to eat 3 meals, and just quickly snack when i can. lol i cant really stop for a meal at work. :disappointed: but i can try to take in healthier snacks to work like you mentioned.

also, im not sure i will keep looking for a doctors though. i used this week to get my annual check ups, because my insurance is going to be changing soon. right now i pay $50 a month, and then just pay a low co pay per visit. Now i have to pay my deductible $1500 before my insurance kicks in to help. it sucks, i will make more money over all despite the insurance increase. But i dont think i want to start dropping money for another doctor to advise me to lose weight/get on a pill.

that actually makes sense, and it has crossed my mind to do it. its been my goal to move out of where i am living. i'm going to sit down tomorrow and look over my finances.:disturbed: see how much money i'm throwing out on fast food. it used to happen to me that if i could just get over the initial feeling of wanting fast food, that eventually i wouldnt even think of it.

lately ive been so stressed that i end up giving in after a week.

No kids here either, but we love them. The little ones that try to impress you by showing off are the best. What a hoot
Have you looked into a big sister program if one is in your area? There are a lot (a LOT) of kids that need a sensible adult friend in their lives. If you have time, you could always ask about volunteering at a homeless shelter or domestic violence center, they need people to keep an eye on small kids while mom and/or dad are working or looking for work to get back on their feet. Just a thought.
Do you like preparing food? Would it be possible to do things like make salads or chop vegetables on your day off, keep them stored in your fridge, so it takes the day to day drudgery out of preparing things like that? Not being nosy, just curious :wave3:

Fast food is expensive in a sneaky way. It doesn't seem like all that much at one time. If you get it on a really frequent basis though it adds up. It can be surprising when you add it up. I got into that trap with Starbucks. A latte is overpriced but it isn't a huge amount of money. I was getting them way to often and I added up what I was spending and it was ridiculous at least for me. I got a Nespresso machine, found cheaper pods at Target that work in the machine and make my own. Starbucks is now a once in a great while treat.

I do sometimes prepare food. I used to do meal prep a lot in my old home. Unfortunately our fridge is filled with so much junk. My niece buys so much food for her and her boyfriend. So I can't really fill up the fridge the way i used to. Lol i do make small batches of soups etc. I've been buying premade salads from publix and plan to start making them myself to save money.

I've always liked the idea of volunteering. Maybe once my health improves. Lately the weekend comes and I do errand, then pretty much catch up on sleep. Lol when I don't feel my best I've noticed I tend to sleep more.

I know what you mean, I've been obsessed with caramel frappes lately. :disappointed:

I know if I can just stop myself from going, eventually I wouldn't even think about it.:(

Have you ever noticed that the people who love kids and want them are the ones who don't get pregnant, while people like me who really don't want them or even like them are the ones who get pregnant?
Don't get me wrong, my son is my universe. But I don't like any one elses kids.

Woke up still feeling sore on the inside and with a medium flow. Just walking is painful. Not even ibuprofen completely makes the feeling go away.

Gave in and took the pills i was given. I dont know if its because ive been resting, or if the pills are working. But the sore feeling started going away pretty soon after i took the pills. My flow also lessened.

Don't beat yourself up over your meal at McDonald's! It's okay! :hugs: As a nurse, ironically, I can't really give medical advice. I would, however, consider drinking water in between meals. I love it just because I love water, especially if it's ice cold. It also fills you up. Sometimes, I don't even want to eat at lunch, though I do because it's not good to skip meals. If you don't like plain water, a bottle with a fruit infuser is great. Fresh strawberries, watermelon, orange, whatever your heart desires to add a little taste.

I hope you have a compassionate doctor who understands your concerns and really listens to your problems. I'm glad you are starting to improve. :vibes:

I just got the results from my test. The gyno says the results for my pap smear are abnormal and I need another test.

I know this is tmi but I'm single and have never had sex. Am I still at risk for cervical cancer? When I took the test i was bleeding. Since I bleed every day it can't be helped.

The doctor says we'll keep an eye on my bleeding for now. After I finished the pills the bleeding came back again.

I read online medroxyprogesterone can cause blood to come back a few days after finishing. I'm hoping it'll stop again.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues. Sounds to me like fibroids and endometriosis. My girlfriend at work had a period for a year. With no breaks. They messed around with this and that- she ended up getting her hyst but not sure if it was a complete or partial. I know this is not what you want to hear-but you would need an endo specialist. Someone who can go in and laser out the implants. There's some studies that say a full hysterectomy won't fix the problems.
Also how much soy are you eating? Soy can have a big impact on endo. I try hard to not eat soy but you ever try to find a loaf of bread without soy lectin or oil?? It's impossible.

I have endo and had fibroids-I had a partial hyst when I was 34. I am 44 now. I didn't want children so it wasn't a big deal for me. It was hard finding a doctor to do the surgery because I didn't have kids-you know it was easier with a male doctor to get the surgery?!:angrywoman: The women just kept saying don't you want a family!:yelling: um NO. I like cats. Not people. :mad2:

Anyways I suffered for 15 years of HORRIBLE cramps and not long friends if you know what I mean. That's why none of the doctors took me seriously. I didn't like the pill-they made me puke. So it wasn't an option for me. When I had my uterus removed-the doctor said I had implants on the back of my uterus and these were stuck onto other body parts which he fixed then my uterus was full of fibroids so there was no way in hell of having children.

As far as bleeding-are you on blood thinners? It sounds like you had a D&C for a procedure. It's normal to have pain and bleeding for 24 to 48 hours after. The bleeding should have stopped by now. I would seriously look into finding a gyno that deals with endo and fibroids.

Don't beat yourself up about weight....I think each of us has a part that is vulnerable to others and we tend to stick to what we know feels good, even if it's not best thing for us.

As far as sexual experience and cervical cancer-I don't know if that even matters. Does anyone in your family have cervical cancer? Is this the first time you had an abnormal screening? I wonder if the bleeding interfered with the test results...sorry I don't have any knowledge of cervical cancer-but sounds like the doctor is trying to cover all the bases.

Bleeding doesn’t affect the Pap test since it is testing cells in your cervix. Abnormal cells are pretty common and usually the next thing they do is a colposcopy, basically just looking at your cervix with a light to see if they see anything looking out of normal. If so they take a sample for a biopsy. It doesn’t feel any different than getting a pap or pelvic exam.

Thank you for all the information. I'll try to find a specialist. If that doesn't work I'll think about the hysterectomy.:frown:

I respect others choices and admire when people are honest that they dont want kids. Otherwise they just end up hurting kids by being disinterested parents.

I've always wanted to have kids tho. So this would hit me very hard if I have to do this.

Thank you! That makes me feel better. The doctor wants to do another pap smear. Should I be getting that test instead?

I wouldn’t worry about it and go with the doctors second pap. I think if it had been very abnormal, as mine was they would have gone straight to the colposcopy.

Let your new boss know that you just realized you had a doctor appointment on your calendar. If you offer to come in early or take a short lunch I bet he or she will be okay with it.
