Hello!
I am losing my mind over stressing & worrying about my cat.
Back in February, my 8 year old cat went in for a dental cleaning. Upon placing the tube down her throat, a yellowish mucus was coming up the tube, so the vet stopped the procedure. My cats bloodwork came back normal, and her x-rays showed a tiny abnormality. The vet prescribed her antibiotics assuming she had bronchitis (she had been coughing prior, which I thought was hair balls. & would drool the yellow mucus when sleeping). Antibiotics did nothing so she was put on steroids. The roids did indeed help, so she was diagnosed with cat asthma. The vet told me if she drools or coughs that I needed to bring her back in for an asthma treatment. Well a couple weeks later, she started drooling again. I tried to get a hold of my vet, but she was always too busy to talk to me herself, so the receptionist told me to bring her back in. All the vet said was that my cat was most likely nauseous and gave her a cerenia injection. Well, that made her so much worse. Her drooling became constant where before it was only while she was sleeping. It turned a milky white color and had a horrible odor. It is so bad that its all crusted around her mouth and on her tail & legs from the drool. She isn't eating & drinking as much as normal. I tried to talk to my vet again, but she was too busy still. So I brought her in again, and now they believe she has stomatitis. What concerns me, is that my vet didn't seem to make the connection that when my cat was given the cerenia injection is when she got worse. It just seems every time I take my cat in, its a whole new problem & not at all related to the last issue. & everytime I try to talk to my vet, she's too busy & I have to pay to take my cat in just to talk to the vet one the phone while sitting in my car (Coronavirus procedures).
I am concerned about how she isn't making connections from the drooling being a symptom of asthma in the beginning, to it only being due to nauseous (even though my cat never throw up), to her being much worse after the cerenia injection, to stomatitis now. I don't want them pulling all my cats teeth out because they think it's stomatitis and it end up being something else.
I would gladly take her to a different vet, but not being able to talk face to face with a new vet to explain everything going on and her history doesn't seem any better.
I don't know what to do to make my cat better, I don't think I trust my vet, but my cat needs help!
She is also FIV+
Basically I just need reassurance that the vet knows what she is doing & that what she is doing makes sense. I am just so worried about my cat that I can't sleep at night.

She got the cerenia injection on Thursday April 9th, and since than has had the extra excessive drooling, an odor to it, and not eating/drinking as often as she normal does.

I know how scary it is, especially right now, to find a new vet, but this is absolutely crucial at this point. There are some articles here to help in finding a reliable, trustworthy vet, what questions to ask, etc. This might help walk you through the process. Take your post above and turn it into bullet points, so that you know precisely what happened and when. Use that when communicating with the new vet. Ask if you can email this to them for their review...include your questions and concerns.

IF you are in the USA, this link will allow you to search for a feline specialist near you, which may be what you want. Be sure to choose the "feline only" option rather than the "cat friendly" option!

And please, please, please let us know what is going on! You are not alone in this any more! I'm so sorry that it took a medical issue to bring you to TCS, but you are so very welcome here!

I think you should look for a second opinion. I understand it's difficult and scary now (and it's never easy to find a good vet) but I had my cats horribly misdiagnosed before and if you already have suspicions, I think absolutely look for a new vet.

Good luck and keep us posted X

Stay away from Vets like that who don't give true care for your cat. I think it's already enough bringing your cat to that vet. I hope you find a professional to help your cat feel better and not just someone who just achieves expertise but know nothing at all.
