So earlier Happy and I were playing in the barn and he went into his little box fort and a grass hopper hopped out of it. It was immediately a cute battle between him and that grass hopper. He kept pouncing on that grass hopper. But man, it was like nothing could stop that grass hopper. Then Happy grabbed it with his mouth and started chewing very lightly, not enough to crush it. The grass hopper jumped out of his mouth. This kept happening for about 3 times til the grass hopper escaped. My friend claims that her cat, Kirby eats insects all the time. I happen to know that cats can have meal worms, but what about other insects? Is this safe?

I would assume it would be ok, because it would mainly be protein the cat was eatting.

My cat eats all kinds of bugs. Grasshoppers and butterflies are her speciality. The only time I´ve been worried was when she caught a bumblebee and got stung in her cheeks. She looked like a beat up boxer for the rest of the day.
The vet told me it was nothing to worry about if she could eat as usual, breathe as usual and didn´t seem sluggish.

the only bug that seems to be dangerous to be stung by and/or eat seems to be (bees - if many- my cat ate one once....) wasps (dangerous!), due to the big amount of poison in the wasps.

And then we have the dreaded ticks....

Grasshoppers are fine for cats to eat.  Some raw feeders buy insects for their cats to eat.

I wouldn't see why not?  It's "meat" technically.  As long as it's not venomous, I think bugs are more on their "original" diet than some of the meats that cat food is made of anyway.
