Probably a dumb question but...
How long does a cat's hair have to be before it is considered to be "long hair" as opposed to "medium hair"?

It's a fine line; actually in CFA there's no Mediumhair classification, only short and long. Some things you can look at that define a true longhair are long ear furnishings (that extend beyond the edge of the ear), the long toe fluffs, and a bushy or plumed tail.

Hmmm... I guess Sam is a long hair then. I can definitely check off all the boxes you mentioned plus add the the long belly hair. Thank you!

Now I'm really confused. When I asked, members said Samai was a medium hair, but after reading this, it sounds like she's a long hair. Do I need to change her microchip status again.

Sorry to hijack this weebeasties weebeasties , but I need to know for microchip info.

I've always considered "medium hair" to refer to cats who are longhaired in the winter, but in the summer they drop most of their fur and look almost shorthaired on their body, except with a floofy tail.
