I posted not too long ago about my cats allergies/asthma and URI's. He had a URI when I adopted him from the shelter as a 2 month old kitten. After we treated it, the uri never came back that strong until he was about 6 years old. It got really bad out of nowhere at that age and thats when he got bloodwork, xrays, and evaluations where they were able to diagnose him with allergic bronchitis. He was given an inhaler which helped greatly for about a year but then stopped. I then took him to a new vet which was highly recommended that said yep it's definitely allergies/asthma which started because of his chronic uri's. He gave him a steroid shot because his breathing was very very bad and within 2 days my kitty was normal again. This lasted about 8 or 9 months.

Now at 8 years old my cat has been sniffling again and thank god no more asthma attacks after getting rid of the triggers and using air purifiers. I posted recently about this uri that came back, I was able to get him into the vet pretty quickly where they did an exam and said he's super healthy just another uri. He was given a Convenia shot, sent home with foriflora to help boost his immune system. I also started giving him cbd in the morning with his wet food. His sneezing died down, the wet sound got a lot better too...but his breathing is still kind of noisy. Well last night I was up late and my kitty was sleeping with his head curled upside down, and I looked in his nostril and to my surprise theres pink fleshy looking thing blocking one nostril. It looks like a polyp. The specialist in my area is closed today so I'm going to call tomorrow to schedule an appointment. Besides this issue he seems very healthy. He's maintained his 10lb weight, uses litterbox, likes to play and his very curious. How concerned should I be? Is it possible this is cancer? I'm pretty worried as that would obviously be devestating and he's only 8 years old and seems so healthy otherwise. I'm also not in the best financial position at this point but will do pretty much anything to make him feel better, I just want to know what to expect? If it was cancer would there be other symptoms?

Still don't know much after todays appointment. The vet was great, did a nasal flush and all, checked lungs and mouth. He said he's still getting air through the nostril with the growth so that is good. I was referred to a surgeon where he said they will have to make sure he's in good enough shape to go under anesthesia and then take the growth out to be biopsied. He also mentioned she may only do all of this after a CT scan, and he warned me this will all be over $3000. He's leaning towards polyp just because no sneezing blood or anything and also he said my cat is still a little young for it to be cancer but we'll see after I get an appointment with the surgeon.

The specialist is all booked up and the soonest she can see me is in more than a week. I booked the appointment but think he needs something sooner. All of the regular vets told me he needs a specialist because the surgery would be more invasive since it's in his nose. I'm worried if it is malignant that waiting like this is making it worse.

Usually a tumor does not make a huge step forward in a week, even a cancerous one. Even with humans, there can be quite a wait from diagnosis to surgery to treatment for tumors. Keep the appointment with the specialist. Call and ask to be informed of a cancellation. Wait until you have more information before you let your imagination get the best of you.

We went into the specialist late last week and got his blood work done. It looked good so we're going to move ahead with the CT scan. They were going to try to fit me in tomorrow because of how long this whole process has been so far but unfortunately they weren't able to. I don't know when the next available date will be. I'm a bit frustrated with how slow this is all moving. My cat is not doing so well right now, his congestion is bad and his energy is lower than usual. They don't seem to see this as an emergency situation. I've called around and the vets around me all use a ct scan company that comes in once or twice a week to do it, so it's not that easy to get something asap.I hope they can at least get me in early next week. For now I made him a little steam room and I'm giving him some baby food to get him eating more.

It is the same here with those diagnostics. I was told last week by my cat vet that the ultrasound vet, who is mobile, is booked for something like a month. Keep checking back for cancellations if possible. I don't know if you have the option of getting him to a larger specialty center as those places usually have all their own equipment. If he declines, call and say it is an emergency and see if that gets any quicker response.

I think I got him in for Monday. Crossing my fingers. They have him down just need to confirm with the mobile company.

For a surgery which uses anesthesia, most vets will offer a pre surgery blood test. It is not usually free, but is a good idea to accept. Given that your cat is not having surgery, but may only need to be sedated, they may or may not offer this option. Sedation is not anesthesia, although for your own peace of mind, I would call the company and ask how they handle this, should there be a blood test, is it sedation and not anesthesia, etc. If I am following what you are having done, they only need him to be still, not prepped for anything invasive.

You might also call your own vet and discuss your concerns.

They did his blood work and said it looks good. He has to go under anesthesia and not just sedation, I'm not exactly sure why? She also said there's a chance she will take a tissue sample to biopsy after she sees the ct scan results. I've heard things about anesthesia not being great while experiencing respiratory issues, but I also understand this is the only option we have at this point.
