Hello all,

My partner and I became cat people gradually, starting by housesitting for some close friends of ours which included their two cats. We now permanently own one of those cats, Agatha (female, ~9 years old). Her roommate Milo passed away before we adopted Agatha, so she was a solo cat for 2-3 years. Until we brought home Bubbles (female, 10 years old) and Cheddar (male, 9 years old). All are fixed, indoors-only cats. We've now had a three-cat household for almost five months now.

We were spoiled with Agatha. She sleeps through the night, doesn't fuss or beg for human food, and is generally a cat owners dream. Bubbles and Cheddar need some coaching. They bounced around homes and shelters for a while and were the only constant in each other's lives. They're sweet animals, their paperwork said that previous owners ran into landlord, lease and budget issues. I was instantly smitten with them, and we adopted them after waiting one day to think it over. Hence why I'm here, to listen to every tip, trick and technique to make our home the best (and final) home they'll ever have.

I'll detail it in another post under Cat Behavior, but there have been some setbacks. Agatha has mostly acclimated to Cheddar. She'll hiss at him is he gets too close, but it never comes to a conflict and 99% of the time he just leaves her alone. Bubbles on the other hand... things had been going well for three months after an introduction period when Bubbles suddenly gave chase to Agatha. They ended up under the couch where I couldn't reach them, and they had a serious fight. One of them was so agitated they peed under the couch and we (possibly) found a tiny spot of blood. We have the house divided again so Agatha and Bubbles aren't near each other and are doing another gradual introduction.

We are also anticipating that Cheddar is diabetic. We're doing one more follow-up with the vet to make a final call.

So, if you have any advice for a spoiled, relatively new cat owner, I'm listening!

Thanks,
ChedBubAg

Hello and welcome to TCS. :wave2: Beautiful cats, all three of them. :catlove: I love how you weren't cat people, and now you have three. Definitely start a new thread in the behaviour forum, as members who post there, may not come into this forum, and vice versa.

For how, here's a TCS article on The Multi-Cat Household [An Owner's Manual for Healthy, Happy Cats] - TheCatSite that might be helpful.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the link to the guide! I look forward to learning and contributing!

Hallloooooooo Thar! Welcome all of you to TCS! Love your fuzzy family! I, too, am introducing cats, but in my case, I also have a dog in the mix. Oy.... the shenanigans Omen (cat) and Winter (dog) get into are hair-pullingly frustrating sometimes...

My only advice would be to be patient. They do tolerate each other eventually, if not become good pals :)

Welcome to you, Agatha, Bubbles, and Cheddar! They are such lovely cats, and we never get "too many" photos! We are so happy that you found us, especially with your little set-backs. You may certainly feel free to start a thread (or three or six) in the Cat Behavior forum to address your questions. LOTS of experienced folks here, ready to make suggestions!

In dim to dark light, she looks grey/black-ish. But you're right, she definitely has reddish and brown undertones when you get up close to her! I never knew that's an uncommon coloration? The Humane Society didn't really mention anything unique about her, coloration or otherwise.

Can you see tabby undertones (stripes ) ? A solid brown cat is very uncommon ---if you see the stripes or grayish then not so much..... but Bubbles looks very solid in that photo, love to see more pics...we do love pics🩷🩷🩷

You're making me want to do an entire photoshoot for Bubbles when I get home.

Definitely no stripes. 90% of the time I think she's grey-black but sometimes the light hits her just right to make the brown pop!
