I believe prices here hit $4-ish back in 2008, and we all lived. So that plus 14 years of inflation and we're not at crisis levels yet.

But that PLUS car prices PLUS real estate prices (which have gone absolutely crazy lately; a ratty little never-updated house in this tiny town recently went for $150,000, and one nearby is listed at $200,000. These are houses that maybe would have sold for $80,000 last year) and I think things are going to crash at some point and it won't be fun.

Those prices Are just insane. I contacted A friend in Germany about fuel prices there. He said that regular Gas was selling currently for 2 euros per liter. or about $8.50/ GL.

Just to cheer you all up, we are about AUST$8 a gallon, which is nearly US$6. That's being generous.. it's actually a bit more than that.

When my husband got gas yesterday he paid $4.22 but I've seen it as high as $4.59-$4.69. It's my turn to gas up today so I hope it hasn't gone up again. :rolleyes2:

Local stations seem to have broken through the psychological barrier of $4.00 a gallon. Most are around $4.15 now.

The station at the local stoplight - about three miles from here - has gone from $3.92 to $4.52 since Sunday.

The average price of gas in Fredericksburg, Va is 4.29 a gallon. The average price of gas where I use to live in Waldorf, Md is 4.19. That's odd because Va had always been known for having the lowest gas prices in the DC area.

Cheapie gas war corner is down to $4.05 for the Cheapie and the other two are $4.09 again. The rest of the stations remain at $4.15.

Be glad that you don't live in NY. Here, we have the basic cost of gas, plus the federal excise tax, which would be nice, but as the commercial goes "But wait, there's more!" There is a state excise tax. Plus a petroleum business tax. Plus a state spill tax. Plus a state testing fee. Plus a state sales tax. Plus a gross receipts tax. And, for the cherry on top, there is an 8.75% county sales tax which is based on the sum of all the other taxes plus the gas itself, so the politicians love high gas prices because it gives them more money- our money- to play with. Yay.
I am sure that other states that have similar tax schemes, but this is the one that I have to live with. Yay.

Today's fuel prices were up from Tuesday, March 8. $4.69 / gallon for regular at the Exxon, had been $4.49

Today price at Costco was $4.09 / gallon, up from $3.89.

In my opinion, this is pure speculation.
There's no real reason for such prices.
It's true! The price of crude oil is currently $109, which is in line with prices the last few years. And I see a lot of people blaming politicians/taxes, and that doesn't make sense because the tax per gallon is the same no matter how much the gas costs, and people buy less when the price is high, so that's not it. Just rich people getting richer, but can't criticize them, noooo.

I paid $3.69 at Costco on Wednesday. The other stations in the area were $3.89. The station in the town I work in is currently at $3.82
